Hi Ayda.. I want to ask something about a scene in Fatmagul.. There was a scene regarding washing the bedsheet after the wedding night of Kerim and Fatmagul. I had read somewhere that it was related to some ritual after wedding in Turkey. Is it true? If yes, then, please explain what was going on in that scene.
Also, when scared, why do the Turkish people do that " biting the thumb" thing?

@ Ayda,

Some of us are watching Olene Kadar, Engin's new show. Are you watching it?

It would be nice to hear more from you about the show, and Turkey.

There is a thread for it. Here is the link:

Hey. Sorry, I wasn't here for quite a while...

Regarding your question I can say that, yes it is a wedding ritual but an old one. Nowadays it is not practised anymore. Maybe only in the rural areas of the east in Turkey.

It has something to do with the "virginity" of woman. The family of the groom wants to see whether the bride is a virgin or not through looking at the bedsheet. If there is blood on it, this shows that the bride is a virgin. If not, they are not sure of her virginity. Women in Turkey are not allowed to be in a relationship (being together with men) until they are married. They have to stay virgin.

But as I have said. It is an old ritual and not practised anymore, ad it was in earlier times. Nowadays people do not care about such things that much anymore. Especially in the big cities like Istanbul, Ankara,Izmir etc. such rituals are not practised anymore. Only in the very conservative, rural areas there might be still families who want to see the bedsheet of the bride in order to see whether she is a virgin or not.

Regarding your second question. Well I think that's just depeneding from person to person. I personally don't do that. And I am turkish as well😛

Hey Ayda, thanks for your reply. I have to ask another question. Do people in Turkey know the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Because in Kara Para Ask, I saw pictures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses in the background.

I have just discovered this thread. Although I only watch one TV drama during a season since it's hard to follow dramas which last more than two hours regularly, I wanted to say hello as a Turkish who happens to be a fan of IPKKND. Actually, a few years ago, another Turkish member who lives in Germany opened a discussion thread for Turkish dramas and there was some members from India and Pakistan that have been following Turkish dramas more than I have been. So once again, it is so nice to see people from different countries being interested in Turkish culture and dramas.

Thank you. IPKKND is the most popular Indian TV drama in Turkey. And I believe that it will remain the same for a long time, until a better drama can be made which is almost impossible, taking the other Indian dramas that have been shown in Turkey into consideration.

I haven't watched Feriha but I know some Indian and Paki members of this forum who conveyed their liking towards Feriha to me.

I hope one day you could come to Turkey as you mentioned. I also would like to come India to taste the street foods and visit temples with monkeys and mice, not to forget buy variety of spices.

After IPKKND ended, none of Indian dramas gained that much appreciation from audiences in Turkey. Even the channel didn't air the remaining episodes of Qubool Hai since it has been getting negative reactions and less ratings from viewers.
