I feel this is what happened with Sanj...she was a very "emotionally" reserved person, so I think it was somewhere along the line ki kisi ko nahi batana hai about engagement.. and then happened to tell Karan and Faizi (indirectly) but then didn't want to share something so personal with anyone.

Phir Sid happened and she just couldn't get herself to tell him, knowing that it would break his heart. And by the time she gathered the courage or knew she had to tell him, it was too late.

Aur mujhe nahi pata yeh Majnu kaun hain, aakhiri baar maine Shergill ko sirf Monu ko uske almost suicide attempt karne ke liye scold karte dekha tha.

I can understand and relate to her situation but woh uss pal se galat ho gayi jiss pal usne apne liye thodi si Khushi ke pal jeene ke liye, uss pal ki yaadein sajone ke liye kisi ko false hope deni shuru kar yeh jaante huye bhi ki uski hone ki koi gunzaish nahi hain.

She had an option to clear that thing to Siddharth or remind him that there is no possibility of love between them without telling him about her engagement before she started liking & enjoying his company.
