Chapter 2

Dev took this opportunity and silently slipped out of the door, finally she was sleeping. He had been waiting for her to sleep so he could get out of the house and go to his mother. He brought enough food and water which can last a week or two, and two blanket to survive in the cold and a dagger tucked in his pants which he found in the house. He still couldn't believe what he had heard, it's too unreal and magical for him, but he believed her because of her power. He want to help his mother, because she is the only family he have, and he loves her despite her stone heart, well not stone, since she protected him. He lost his father when he was four, that was the golden time when his mother was close to him, loved him, cared for him, after that incident, she left him alone in the boarding school. He was kept away for all his childhood and adolescent life until he turned adult enough to manage his father's business, which was managed by her mother. He took over the business and did a splendid job, he transferred the main office near home, even wihout his mother's approval. They had a big fight on that subject, she kept asking to not move in the house with her but he paid no heed to her. That day he even asked her, why does she hate him, why she is keeping him away from her, she didn't give any answer, just walked out. He realize now, probably the reason she kept him away from her was because she wanted to protect him from whoever the person is. He beamed with joy as tears sprawled from his eyes, she love him, he had been craving for her love ever since he was a child. Now, he know she love him, and he couldn't explain, how wonderful the feeling is. He will definitely meet her and save her from danger, he can't let her lose.

With all the thoughts, he didn't realize he had already entered the forest, dark and spooky forest, with wild beasts hunting for their prey. He scanned around, he wondered where he was, she said he is the only human here, and the forest is thick enough to get lost and animals are wild enough to eat a person. He still kept walking, trying to get as far as he can get from the house, which is the main priority as of now.

He fell back and leaned against the trunk of the tree, he is completely exhausted with all the walking he is doing for several hours. He pulled out the bottled water from his satchel and gulped, soothing his throat from dryness, bringing energy to his life less body. He bet that he is already far from the house, he looked at his wrist watch, it's already past two. He must rest here before he start again tomorrow or he won't have energy to continue, he must reach his mother as soon as he can. He thought of starting a fire, to keep wild beast away since they are afraid of fire, thanks to his boys scouting taught in boarding school, he knows how to survive in forest. He start a fire using several scattered branches and leaves and rubbing two stones to produce fire. After several moments, he spread the blanket just beside the bonfire and used his satchel as a pillow while used the other blanket to cover himself as he lied down. He wondered, she noticed him gone, will she still follow him, she wouldn't know where I am, besides she should've helped him instead of declining him. But then again, she is bound by her mother's promise so he wouldn't blame her for her resistance. He remembered his own promise to her, to cook for her and he clearly recalled her warning if ever he break his promise, she would never trust him again. He sighed, his first priority is his mother not her, though he feel guilty on breaking the promise, he don't have any choice. He closed his eyes but whenever he does so, her mesmerizing face come in front of him, thus arousing him even though he is exhausted. He shrugged those thought and tried to get some sleep, fortunately he fell asleep.

Dev sat up at the first sound of his predator, it was already past morning, the sun was shining bright. The fire had burnt out but the smoke was still rising. He stared at the wild beast as he gripped the dagger in his hand and faced the wild beast. His heart was beating faster and louder, he is scared as hell and doesn't know the first thing on how to kill an animal. The animal growled as he stepped towards him, Dev slowly rose from the floor and took steps back, still his eyes glued on the wild beast. The wild beast circled around him, giving glances towards his dagger, sensing the dagger as a hindrance and the only protection of its prey. It made his move, charged on Dev quickly, its speed was fast, he didn't see him coming, but in the last moment, he was able to dodge himself, how ever, the wild beast managed to pierce his arm slightly with his sharp claws. Blood seeped through his arm as sharp pain exploded, he bit his lower lip to tolerate the pain. It went past flying in a good distance as it landed back on the ground, it didn't take second to attack again. It ventured out with its incredible swiftness, again Dev was able dodge himself. This went longer, the wild beast was growling with frustration and annoyance over his prey's resistance. Realizing that this was leading no where, it changed its tactics, he crouched his back legs low on the ground, Dev held his breath, he wouldn't be able to dodge this move, he trembled with fear, he can't die here, he have to save his mother. It came, quicker than he could imagine, it was getting closer and leaping on him in mere seconds, but in the last moment something blocked his view and wild beast was stopped right away.

"You fight bravely, human." He heard her say. He stepped forward to look at the wild beast, as much as it try, he couldn't move an inch, he growled louder in anger, after few moments ran off. Thank God! He's safe! He really thought he's going to die!

"Thank you for saving me!" Dev said.

"I care less about you, human. I am just doing my duty, I am to protect you from harm." She replied dryly.

Damn! She found me! How can she find me so easily!

"How did you find me?"

She smirked and replied "I was following you since last night, you think you can fool me and escape, human?"

Dev gave incredulous look, to think he had escaped her and finally meet his mother, if she was following him since last night why he never sensed her and why she came in the last minute to save him from the beast.

"You lie, woman. If you have been following I would've known or at least sensed and why didn't you save me if you were here all along?"

"I don't lie, only humans do, they break promises, human. I have been following you in my bird form, you wouldn't have noticed me. And I didn't save you before because it is your punishment for escaping from me but I can't get you killed because of my duty so in the end I did save you."

He flushed with embarrasement and anger, he did break her promise but what choice does he have, he can't go to his mother now.

"Do you think I had a choice, I want to be with my mother!" He barked.

"How many times will I repeat? You're mother can only be in danger only if, listen properly, only if you are in danger. As long as you are safe, she can't be harmed. Even if you go to your mother, you can't help instead you will put her in danger, you will be only a burden for her, she has so much to worry, don't add more! Help her by staying with me."

Dev fell on his knees, what should he do? He want to be sure she is safe, if he stay here and lose his mother, he won't be able to bear the pain, if he go to his mother than she will be in more danger.

"I know you are worried for your mother but that is the only way you can help her. Please stay here, don't think she's alone, she have us, whole raven clan is there to help her." She said.

Dev looked up at her with tears in his eyes, and asked "If I stay here, can you assure me that my mother will be safe?"

She smiled and replied "As long as you are unharmed, she's unharmed, I told you that, didn't I?"

"How is that possible?"

"You hold her life, if you die, she die."

"If something happen to me, she won't be able to live, like that?"

She nodded and replied "when your father died, she wish to end her human life and remain raven, but for one reason she lived, it was you. It is her duty to protect you no matter she die or live."

He wiped his tears and stood up.

"I'll stay here as long as mother is safe."

She grinned and replied "Your mother is safe, human."

"Why do you call me human, when before you call me Dev?"

"Because I don't trust you anymore."

"I'm sorry I broke your promise but you also did break my promise, albeit partially."

"Me? I don't break promises."

"You did. You promised to answer my every question but you didn't answer every, now tell you didn't break your promise?"

She blushed at his question, she did break her promise and he did break his promise because of the circumstances, so she could forgive him.

"I'm sorry too, but don't escape again, I won't be able to protect you every time if you escape. What if I wasn't able to reach in time, you would've been a tasty meal for the beast, and look you're hurt."

"I won't escape, I told you I'll stay. As for this wound, you could've prevented it which you didn't because you wanted to punish me."

She grinned and replied "That's not entirely true, I wanted to see how brave you are. I'm impressed you are brave."

Dev smiled boyishly and asked "Did I hit on you already?"

She frowned and asked "You plan to hurt me?"

Dev gave a baffled look, "What gave you the idea?"

"Hit means hurting, isn't it?"

He chuckled and replied "I didn't mean that, dear."

"I'm not deer, I'm raven"

"I didn't say deer, I said dear."

"What's the difference?"

"The difference is in meaning and spelling, never mind. What is your name or do you call yourself raven?"

"Radhika."

"Nice name. Let's go now,Radhika?"

She nodded but then she touched his wound. He flinched in pain but then felt nothing, no pain at all. He removed the cloth blocking his wound and was surprised to see it healed, not even a scar was there. He looked up at her, and smiled seeing her grin, her powers are quite handy.

Thank you dear, i'm glad you love my story, i really can't resist writing a radev SS, even though there are only few members to read. I love Radev and keep loving them. love you too.
