I'm powerful than an SC judge: Chunky
Chunky Pandey. (TOI Photo)
Chunky Pandey did not get a flying start to his filmi career despite giving some extremely good performances in films like Tezaab, Aankhen, Vishwatma, etc.

But the talented actor is more than satisfied with his second innings in Bollywood. In a freewheeling chat with LT, Chunky talks about his upcoming films, his stint as a judge on a reality show and much more...

And things are hunky-dory for Chunky these days. The chirpy actor has a been doing a host of movies this year. "Right now I'm busy shooting for many films that include Anubhav Sinha's Sankat City, where I'm playing a double role. Then there is Daddy Cool, Shortcut, Hello Darling, Paying Guest and khalbali Re Khalbali. Also, I'm doing a Hollywood film Mumbai Calling where I play an interesting character of Chunky lafanga," he informs. Well that's quite a list Chunky!

And will he be seen doing comedy in these films? "Well fortunately or unfortunately, after the success of Apna Sapna Money Money, where I played a Nepali character, I've been getting a lot of offers for comic role," he says with a smile. But Chunky doesn't just want to restrict himself to comedy. "I want to do hard core negative roles because I feel the great Indian villain like Mogambo in Mr India is missing from films these days," he says.

Chunky is among those few celebrities who, despite having busy film schedule,is judging a reality dance show called Zara Nachke Dikha. "I'm powerful than a Supreme Court judge sitting on the judge's chair of this reality show," says Chunky tongue firmly in cheek, adding, "And I think I'm judging well too. I watch all the performances like the normal audiences do. Agar mujhe performance achcha lagta hai toh main seeti baja deta hoon aur nahi achcha lagata hai toh boo kar deta hoon."

Some of Chunky's recent performances in films like D, Qayamat: The City Under Threat, Elaan were critically acclaimed. So, what according to him went wrong at the start of his career? "Well, wrong selection of films perhaps, was one major reason. But after my stint in Bangladesh as an actor, where I became an overnight superstar, I think I reinvented myself. And that's perhaps what is reflecting in my performance now," he avers.

But the actor is no hurry to play lead roles again. "I have rejected so many films where I was asked to play the lead because those roles didn't excite me. And I don't like over-exposure as well," says Chunky.
Chunky was also associated with a Johnny Depp's flick Shantaram. "Well, unfortunately that film has gone in the cold storage. But in that process I was gifted a ring by Johnny Depp's astrologer. And I guess that is proving lucky for me as I am getting loads of film offers after wearing it," he smiles.
Luck is definitely on your side, Chunky!

Amit Tondon on an experimental spree!

"Yes. It's a great experiment for me as until now the audiences have seen me as a singer and now they will be watching me as a Punjabi dancer. I like the concept of this show of ladka vs ladki and mostly there is no elimination which I think will boost the show," says Tondon.
Even my rapport with all the contestants is very good as they are my two co-stars Mouni Roy and Vikas Sethi with whom I have worked in Kyunki… so its great fun. I like to experiment myself and surely this show will boost my album sales which will be releasing in the next few days. In my album I have done everything … dancing, singing so this will be great opportunity to display my own album."

"All the contestants are very hard working especially all my boys including me though I'm not going to perform as I'm there on the penalty bench. From this show I will get experience from someone like Malaika Arora Khan who knows all the technical aspects of dancing. And its great as my wife Ruby has come to see my first dancing reality show," he adds.

When are you coming back as Manthan in Kyunki?

"No idea about my return in the serial as I'm busy with this show"

Amit Tondon seems to be enjoying his experimental process on Zara Nachke Dikha!

Chunky Pandey enjoys being a judge!

Says Chunky, "Earlier I was a little hesitant but when I came to know that my co-judge is Malaika who is a family friend of mine I was fine. My job is to take a close look at their dancing style and to add a little bit of humour. Maliaka will take care about the technicalities as she has ample experience of judging dance reality shows."

The actor is thoroughly enjoying his new avatar. "I like the concept of boys challenging girls on the dance floor. When I go home my 9 year old daughter tells me girls are the best dancers and they should win! During my days I was a very bad dancer but I think my role in Apna Sapna Money Money gave me this chance of turning a judge."

Chunky's last film was Fool N Final. Now he will be seen in Anubhav Sinha's Sankat City, Anil Kapoor's Shortcut and Mukta Arts' Hello Darling.

Malaika Arora 'Judge' Khan

"I'm really enjoying this. I love this unique concept of ladka vs ladki. I will look out minute details. As a dancer I know how to judge but I must thank Saroj Khan for what I have learnt from her. I really miss her. All the contestants are marvellous and have put in lots of efforts especially the two kids Swini and Amey are superb. I love Amey's dancing style. Whenever he comes on the dance floor, he just steals our heart," says Malaika.

Any more item numbers in the offing? "If I get something good I will definitely do it."

Malaika will be seen on the big screen with Arjun Rampal in EMI which will be releasing this August.

Gaurav's on a dance trance
Gaurav Chopra

Gaurav Chopraa had wowed audiences with his dance performances in Nach Baliye 3 along with partner Narayani Shastri and now he seems to be doing the same in Zara Nachke Dikha.

He recently performed to Yeh Veeraniya from Namastey London where he was shown getting murdered and banished to hell pining for his lost love. Says Gaurav, "I believe that dancing is probably the most exhilarating form of performance but the difference between the dancer and the actor dancing is that the performance should be more depictive. The actor should have a story in his belly," he says.

"I really like this show as it gives you lots of confidence. It is my first reality show so on the first day of the shoot I was really tense but such anxiety helps you perform well," says Chaitanya.

Asked about his rapport with his team, he says, "It has been a great experience. The 8 of us are staying together like brothers and it really gives us strength to perform well."

Will boys outdo the girls? "Both are doing equal amount of hard work so let's see what happens," he signs off.

Mujhe naak nahi katwani!
Mumbai:

Chunky Pandey, who is seen on Star One's Zara Nachke Dikha, is looking different these days. His face is looking more taut and tanned.

Swim fan

On the show, there are many tight close-ups of Chunky's face and his skin looks visibly stretched. The bags under his eyes have also greatly reduced giving rise to speculation that Chunky has had help from a cosmetic surgeon.

However the actor-cum-host says, "I haven't gone in for plastic surgery yet. My face looks tanned and taut because I have been swimming under the sun at Otters Club every day. I have also lost a lot of weight. But I want to do plastic surgery. I hope to get it done next year."

Bye-bye puffy eyes
Chunky adds that the one thing he would like changed first are the bags under his eyes. "I have had those bags ever since I joined films and they make my eyes look puffy. Everything else is perfect! Mujhe naak nahi katwani hai.

Neither do I need any breast implants as I am on the other side of the fence. Today you see so many lady-boys in Bangkok roaming the streets where they have even removed their Adam's apple through surgery to look like girls. That's tampering with nature but I feel if one needs to do little things to look good as we are in the looks business, then one shouldn't hesitate to do plastic surgery.

No wrinkles, please

Another thing on Chunky's wishlist is removing wrinkles. He says, "I would like to go for a collagen or boot injection or facial surgery but I am scared of anesthesia. I have heard so many people who have done it and look so good. It's an advantage to do plastic surgery. Maybe I should ask Koena what to do?"

Ageing, stay away!

Chunky says he eats and drinks to keep ageing at bay. "I drink many cups of green tea, 12 oranges in a day and lots of salmon. They are all food with anti-oxidants," says the actor who will next be seen in Sankat City, Daddy Cool, Shortcut, Hello Darling, Paying Guest and Khalbali Re Khalbali.

Baal baal bachna

On an upcoming episode of Zara Nachke Dikha, co-judge Malaika kept making fun of Chunky and insisted he was wearing a wig. In an impromptu move, she pulled at his hair to prove her point. She tore off a few strands leaving Chunky fuming.

The life and time of Rupali

The bubbly Rupali Ganguly is currently one busy actress. Juggling between her two shows Ek Packet Umeed and Zara Nach Ke Dikha Rupali just about manages to catch her forty winks and cuddle up to her pet dogs.

"Life has definitely become very hectic but I have no qualms. I think ten months of a break after Big Boss made me too lazy and now this make me feel good," says Rupali.

Elaborating on her routine she explains, "I stay at Worli so I have to leave early the morning to reach my Ek Packet Umeed set in to Dahisar. I shoot here till the late evening and then rush back to Andheri."

"In Andheri I go for the rehearsal of my reality show Zara Nach Ke Dikha and then I reach home late at night. At that point of time I just feel like hitting the bed as the next day I have to report early morning for the shoot," she adds further.

It's been months that Rupali has not watched television. "I don't even get time to watch my own shows due to my shooting schedule. But at the end of the day I feel satisfied with whatever I do."

So does that not leave her with any time for marriage? Rupali who is already seeing someone says, "I've not yet decided on marriage as I don't know whether the guy in my life will ultimately be my life partner. We are still discovering each other though I know him from years. For now it's a very causal relationship. I don't even know whether I love him. Let's keep it under wraps until everything is finalised," she concludes.

Hey Rupali slow down…atleast find time for love!

Dance of the wardrobe
Ashita Dhawan
Who says wardrobe malfunctioning is confined to only fashion shows? Well, it seems that the ?trend? is ?catching up? with our realit y shows as well.

In the upcoming challenge episode of the dance show Zara Nachke Dikha , Mouni Roy and Ashita Dhawan performed together on a song from the movie Naach in the Lagi Bet round where the two wore angel wings over their halter neck dress, which they were to take out halfway through the song.

Unfortunately, when Ashita tried to remove those wings, the stitches of her halter neck dress gave way. Despite this slip, the girl carried on unfazed and performed till the end without a pause.

It was only after her performance that she held her dress back. And it goes without saying that everyone present on the sets (including the boys) were awed by her confidence and professionalism.

When contacted Malaika Arora Khan (one of the judges on the show) said, ?If I had been in her place, I probably would have not been able to handle it so gracefully. Kudos for her great performance and courage.?
