Sorry I can't help much since even I haven't seen much of pre-leap.

But I can tell you what I know..

Survi and Kartik were neighbors in childhood and then some goons kill Kartik's bhau and all the blame comes on Survi's dad when in reality he didn't do anything except bring them home. Kartik then comes to know that Srikant (Survi's dad) is innocent and help them escape as Tai wants to kill them to take revenge for her husband's murder. We later get to know that Tai was the real murderer who planned her husband's murder.

Then there is again 3-4 years leap and Kartik meets Srikant again in Dubai and this time he asks Kartik to look after Survi till he comes back. I don't know what exactly happened to him, I think he was in jail or something (not sure). Then the real story starts of how Kartik fulfils his Vaada to keep Survi safe and saves her from Tai's clutches. Kartik's whole life starts revolving around Survi. Survi gets to know Tai's real face that she is after Kartik's life and just pretends to be nice and tries to expose her but Kartik does not believe her at all and slaps her instead for badmouthing Tai. Tai becomes the victor and takes a Vaada from Survi that if she stays away from Kartik she will keep him safe otherwise she will get him killed, and that is when she goes away without telling anyone. Lata (Kartik's mom) knows the entire truth about Tai but keeps silent but when she sees Survi is gone then she decides to speak up but Tai pushes her from the building and she goes into coma.

Then came the leap of 8 years and Survi landed up at Kartik's place where she gets to know that Kartik blames her for his Ayi's condition.
