Its easy to look at people and make quick judgments about them, their present and their past, but you'd be amazed at the pain and tears a single smile hides. What a person shows to the world is only one tiny facet of the iceberg hidden from sight. And more often then, it's lined with cracks and scars that go all the way to the foundation of their soul."
~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shakespeare once said that all the world is a stage and all the men and women are merely players and one man in his time plays many parts. Abir Rajvansh once played the part of a little boy who was adored by his parents. Who once used to find comfort in his father’s embrace and solace in his mother’s embrace but than one day he was forced to play the part of a boy who is left behind. His father’s departure robs him of his childhood and day in day out he questions that why he was not enough to make his father stay. He than goes on to play the part of being a big brother to his Naanko whom he wants to protect from the world. For his Naanu he plays the part of a doting grand child who his more like a partner in crime. For his mother he plays the part of an estranged son because he disagrees with her idea of love and control. For the world he plays the part of an NGO head who likes to help people in need. For some he is an artist who has the ability to add colors to a blank canvas. To some he is poet who has the skill to powerfully weave his words. For some he is that friend who is always there to chher you up, motivate you and encourage you to do better. He wears a mask but underneath his cheerful demeanor there is still that young boy who desperately longs for love.
The episode begins with Abir playing the conch and thinking about what Misthi did the other day. It hurts to see her like this so unlike herself but what hurts more is that this time she did not confide in him. Shaheer’s eyes in this particular scene convey so much pain you can’t help but feel it. Abir quickly covers up his pain and smiles and reminds everyone how they need to rejoice as its Kunal’s wedding today. He tries to make everyone dance. His family start cracking jokes and are having fun. Even he dances a bit and smiles but there is so much pain hidden behind his gestures. He is breaking from the inside and no one from his family notices. In essence both him and Misthi are more alike than they like to admit because sometimes even in a room filled with their loved ones they feel alone.
Jo dard chupana chahte hai
Vo dard par pehra rakhte hai
He talks about how people who want to conceal their pain never let their guard down. The manage to shield others from their own pain.
Padh lena koi gam chehre pe
Chehre par chehra rakhte Hai
People like him often wear masks. The show once facet of their personality to the world which if cheerful and humorous but the truth is that they often use humor to mask their true emotions. Its because when you have the ability to make someone smile and you actually do make them smile you tend to forget your own pain. The real , raw and open facet of your personality you only show to a few people.
Jaise tumne kal rakha tha
Aaj hamari baari hai
Abir muses how the other day Misthi tried to conceal her pain and sorrow behind her fake anger. He however, could see right through her. That’s the thing with people who know pain as well as Abir does that they can recognize in an instant when another soul is in pain. They have worn a mask so frequently that they can recognize when another person is wearing a mask. He talks about how now its his turn to wear a mask for his family.
Apno ke khaatir apno se
Karni padti aiyari hai..
He concludes by saying that sometimes we need to fool and betray our loved ones for their own benefit. We have to laugh and keep on smiling even when we are dying inside so that it does not cause any inconvenience to our family. Honestly, this poetry , his monologue this scene the way he continues to beat the drum trying to drown his sorrows in the loud noise of the drum beat and the music broke my heart. Shaheer Sheikh was phenomenal in the entire scene. Our poor homeboy has so many emotional scars that he hides behind his humor. He needs Misthi more than she knows. She is the only one who manages to see through him. She saw through him when he was in anguish due to his confusing feelings about her during the Kusthi gordhana track. She saw through him when he talked about how she had helped him achieve his father’s dream when thay build a school together. She saw through him when he just wanted to rest his head on her lap and fall asleep. When he was overwhelmed after Ketki’s wedding fiasco she was the one he hugged for comfort. When he was worried for Kunal due to the return of Shetwa he rested his head in her shoulders and for a brief moment let go of his worries. He told her that the painiting wali is his zaroorat she is not his want but his need. In a way they both heal each other’s pain but today she is not with him and it hurts. At the other end poor Mish has packed her bags and she is ready to leave. She muses on how she was once alone but than God gave her such a loving family so maybe God will help her out of this mess. Or maybe ‘Upar wala ka special dost’ her Ajeeb Rajvansh will succeed in fixing things.
“Kia pata Ajeeb Rajvansh apnay Ajeeb say jaadu say sab kuch theek kar day” The faith she has on her homeboy is commendable. She believes that he is capable of doing magic because him being in her life is nothing short of being magical. This scene was such a beautiful call back to the scene in Bhoj where they played hide and seek between those pillars. The day he had told her:
“Upar walay ki awaaz hamesha upar say nahi aah ti. Kabhi kabhi who kisi aur ko bhej dayta hain kisi ko humrahi madad karnay ki” and not through his actions he has made her believe in it. That day she scoffed at him today she is holding on to this belief for dear life. As its time for Misthi to leave BM asks both BP and shaurya to stop her but they both refuse as they don’t want anything happening that might hinder Kuhu’s wedding. BP looks on silently as Misthi is leaving and the sad version of the title song plays as they show Mish in anguish. She wants to reach out to him and tell him that she is sorry. BP removes his glasses and wipes of his tears and after giving her a look he goes back inside. Seeing BP in pain makes Mish angry and for a brief moment Abir’s angry chorni makes a comeback.
“Aunty jo app na kaha mainay kiya. Meri Badi Maa nay kaha tha kay baday buzurg hamesha sahi hotay hain lekin aaj main app say keh rahi hu kay aap galat hain aunty. Aap nay aik beti say uss ki papa ki insult karawayi un ka dil todhwaya. BP kehtay hain bhagwan sab kuch dekhta hain mujay nahi pata yay baat sach hain par I hope sach ho” so basically she tells BB that how that it is said that how elders are often right but that cannot be said for her. She also goes on to remind BB on how karma is a real thing and how BB will have to pay for her sins. I loved how visibly shaken BB looked in this scene and how she had no comeback. After ages we get a scene between Ketki and her brother Abir and that scene was adorable. Can we please have more scenes of them. Even she hints at the fact that how lately he is not being himself.“Aaj kal aap ki jokes ki quality kharab hoti ja rahi hain ya toh aap kay jokes jhootay hain yah top aap” she says and then walks away.
“Meray jokes aur meri khusi jhootay hain lekin main ghar par kisi ko pata nahi lag nay dun ga” his smile instantly fades from his face and he muses on how his happiness is fake but he must not let anyone know about it.
“Kal raat kay baad uss any mujh say baat karnay ki koshish bhi nahi ki. Kiya who sach main mujh say baat nahi karna chaati” he asks himself. She hasn’t contacted him after there painful last meeting does she really not want to talk to him. He is lost in these thoughts when Jugnu comes up to him and give him his phone and than in the most endearing scene of the whole episode Jugnu embraces Abir and tells him” Abir bhaiya aap bohot achay ho bohot achay ho aap” their bond is so pure and I love it how Abir has always shown to be kind to the house help. It’s the only reason that Jugnu respects and looks up to him because Abir has always given Jugnu his due respect and has treated him more like a friend. Its kind of sad though that instead of his family members Jugnu sees him as he really is. Misthi has managed to call him from an unknown number.
“Hello…” and the sad version of dheeray dheeray starts playing she does not dare utter a single word but he once told her that “Khamoshi bhi bohot kuch kehti hain bas sun na ahana chaiyay” and he listens even to the silent plea of her heart.
“Hello Misthi..Hello” for a moment she is stunned all the courage she mustered to finally call him vanishes as she realizes with a jolt that he knows its her. She immediately disconnects the call and hands the phone back to the driver.
“Sorry sir galti say lag gaya tha” the driver tells him
“Pata nahi kiya par kuch toh galat ho raha” he has an inkling that something is very wrong but he can’t seem to figure out what it is. He is right though and I can’t wait for him to find out and fix things next week. THAT PRECAP THOUGH OMG THE WAY HE SUBTLY CHALLENGES HIS MAA WAS AMAZING “ Jab abb Abir waada karta hain toh ussay zaroor pura karta hain” haaye I love it when he refers to himself in third person and tells his Maa in plain and simple terms that he ain’t going to let her ruin anything.
