I have not seen seasons 1 or 2 of this show, so not familiar with old Rishta vibes. I only saw the first few episodes of the Capetown arc out of curiosity.
So, I am saying it as a total noob. The leap was so well executed. It was like a breath of fresh air.
Although, I didn't expect Abhinav's character to be in the show for this long(almost six months?) But I am happy they introduced a non-toxic character in this show. And the amount of love this character received showed that you don't have to be the toxic guy to be loved by the audience.
Many have said many things, But for me, the hook was the non-biological dad's feelings.
ITV is filled with non-biological mothers and their mamtha... But rarely do we see the non-biological dad, Baaptha.
There were some shows like Patiala Bebes with Hanuman Singh and Minni.. but they did not focus on it as much as I wanted.
And Zama Habib Beautifully presented their bond.
Taking care of Akshara.
The toofani raat.
Him holding the baby for 2-3 days without any other concerns.
Even after that, him giving back the baby to Akshara after she is awake saying "Aapka beta.. sirf aapka beta..."
I also love that we see many cuddling and hugging scenes with Abhir and Abhinav to show that Abhir feels comfortable with what he first felt in the world. He feels protected/cared for by Abhinav's hug like many might feel with their mother's hug. Abhir's first contact was Abhinav and then his mother.
Abhinav's character is so refreshingly simple yet beautiful.
And more importantly, Zama Habib maintained balance in their parenting. Contrary to other's beliefs ZH never put one parent above another. Ak and AbhiN both were parents. They both worked together like a team, which is rarely seen when one parent is non-biological.
In many shows, we see the non-biological mother as the only one who interacts with children, makes them understand, and is the bridge between the father and the children. The father would not be able to hang out with the children because of work commitments, personal ego clashes, lack of communication, etc.. lo and behold the non-biological mother comes to the rescue.
I was so tired of this trope. Here it was so normal to see Abhir being disciplined by both his parents, cheered by both his parents and loved by both his parents. All equally. Abhinav and Akshara were proper parents. If it is about Abhir, They both have an equal say in it. They both discuss about the child. Which is so new. I rarely see nice mature parents on ITV.
Hats off to Zama Habib for giving this wonderful family called the Sharma family.
As I was not much interested in Akshara's character I was not exactly invested in the Ak-AbhN story. But ZH went beyond my expectations and made Ak realize how much of a toxic relationship her previous relationship was. This is also so rarely seen in ITV. FL does not realize the toxicity of ML ever. Here, Ak not only realized the toxicity of her past relationship but also did not let her past restrict her, she is moving forward in a happy direction.
Although I think Abhira will be the endgame.. only because of HC. I am happy that a did FL did move into a progressive relationship for some time. I'll be happy with just that.
Thanks Sejal for this wonderful post....
