Loved this short chapter! So impactful! We got confessions and commitments! Abhi’s candid admission of why he can’t “date” her was…., blunt fact! Tell it like it is Abhi. 😉

Chapter 12

ek baat kahu kya ijazat hai

Akshu tripped.

Not that anyone could blame her.

You're marrying me.

Two familiar arms wrapped around her waist, breaking her fall and she almost laughed at the cliche. As she looked down at his annoyingly perfect face she felt a wave of emotions go through her. Most of all shock.\

"What the fu-"

"Language," he admonished sternly.

"Language?!" she said, incredulously, wrenching herself away from him. "You're seriously scolding me about language right now?!"

He crossed his arms, still standing way too close, and looked down at her in amusement. "Problem?"

"Yes! Problem! What do you mean I'm marrying you?"

He raised his eyebrows mockingly "Don't you know? When a boy and a girl meet each other-"

"Oh shut up" she snapped and he laughed. Somewhere in the back of her mind Akshu registered that she had never before dared tell her senior doctor to 'shut up' before. She also registered that she hadn't heard him laugh like this before either. He had a lovely laugh, rich and deep. Not that she cared.

"Why would we get married?!" she asked trying, and failing, to keep her composure.

"Because we love each other."

"Well, yes, but-" Akshu stopped abruptly as she realized what she just said. Abhimanyu was full on grinning at this point.

"I mean-I-we-we love-I mean I don't-" she stammered wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Abhi's smile softened and he took a step towards her.

"Akshu," he said. "Relax. Is your heart beating fast right now?"

Akshu shook her head, biting down on her lip. Abhi furrowed his eyebrows, absentmindedly pulling at her lip till she released it. "Don't bite your lip. Rule number -"

"Four" she said, cheeks burning.

"Good girl" he smiled. Akshu almost groaned out loud. Please lord, never let him find out what those two words of praise from him do to her.

"Now, is your heart beat fast?"

"Yes" she answered.

"Is your pulse rate high?" he asked, cupping her face with one hand.

"Yes."

"Does your skin feel hot?"

"Yes."

"Do we love each other?"

"Yes."

Abhimanyu felt his eyes prick slightly. Her one yes had the power to bring him to his knees. And now she knew it. Or, more accurately, now she acknowledged it. "Now that that's cleared up, let's get you home shall we? Me and your family have a lot of things to discuss"

Waking up from the pleasure induced daze Akshu was in, she again wrenched herself away from him to look at him more clearly. Abhi frowned at the sudden absence of her warmth. He tugged on her hips, growling when she continued to resist.

"Akshu" he warned.

"Abhi! We can't get married!" she said. "You can't go from bossing me around to proposing to me in one day!"

Abhi tilted his head. "Why not? You just admitted we love each other."

"I wanted to date! Besides you're almost my boss! We haven't even figured it all out yet, we can't just get married out of the blue. There is a......process" she huffed.

Abhi sighed. This time when he tugged at her hips she came willingly, allowing him to wrap her in his arms. "I can't date you, Akshu." he said, adamantly.

"Why not?!"

"Because," he said, suddenly backing her up against the wall. "I want you in every way possible. I want to make you mine in every way a man can make a woman his. I want to proclaim to the world that I love you and you love me, and we belong to each other. I want to make sure nobody, nobody, ever dares to question your position in this hospital, in the world, and in my life" he replied hotly, pressing the length of his body to hers, hard planes against soft curves. "And," he continued, "I want to kiss you, and taste you, and love on you till the only name you remember is mine. And I can't do all of that if we're dating."

In the end, Akshara managed to convince him to not immediately march over to her house and demand her hand in marriage. It took a lot of pleading, a lot of puppy eyes, and a lot of lip bites, but he finally agreed to wait. But only for a while, he had warned.

Akshu covered her face in her hands as she lay in her bed, wondering if she had somehow entered a parallel universe. She'd managed to avoid her family as she had no doubt in her mind that they'd ask about the permanent blush on her face.

How did things happen so quickly?

Just two days ago she was an oblivious medical intern who sometimes drooled over her mentor. And today said mentor was her.....what?

Boyfriend?

Fiancé?

Lover?

Very-complicated-and-very-intense-someone-who'd-somehow-managed-to-weasel-his-way-under-her-skin?

God she was srcrewed.

I know, I know, super late. But kya karun, ye ishq nahi asaan. And by ishq I mean college. Plus the episodes lately haven't been very inspiring either. Oh well. Better late than never right?
