SCENE 8: Next day in Red Rose Resturaunt, at one table Naina, Kamya, Preeti, and Munna are sitting. At the table behind them Sameer, Pandit and Hema are sitting. Everyone orders. Only Sameer's table orders come.

Kamya: Are yaar hummare order kab ayega?

Sameer: Bhanke Bhaya, meh neh doh tables kah order diya, ekh table kah kahna abhi bhaaki hain.

Bhanke: Sameer Bhai, principal ma'm neh order dhi keh aap in logo seh nahin beht sakte isliye. Toh yeh unka order ghud dehna.

They all frown.

Preeti annoyed: Principal khi sharton khi aisi khi taisi.

Naina: Teek hain hum ghud dehte hain, kohi baat nahin.

Kamya: Toh bata, hum is saal play meh hissa lahenge kiya?

They all start talking about the play and whether to participate or not. Over this conversation Munna, Pandit and Sameer have their own conversation across the tables.

Pandit: Kiya hain, Munna, itna chup kyon hain?

Munna: Kuch nahin.

Sameer: Swati seh baat huwi?

Munna: Class meh nahin hain.

Pandit: Tere class meh hain?

Sameer: Nahin.

Munna: Kahan hogi woh.

Sameer: Fikr mat ayegi. Naina.

Naina: Hmm.

Sameer: Swati koh dekha?

Naina: Nahin, kal raat koh tummare party par last dekha tha. Shayad, takh gayi isliye college nahin ayi.

Munna: Shayad.

SCENE 9: Next day, at Sameer's house. Sameer, Pandit and Munna are together having snacks. Munna is exceptionally quiet. Pandit is telling them about what happened in class. Munna sits and does not participate.

Sameer: Sach, aisa huwa?

Pandit: Haan bhai, bohut mazaa aya jab Karthik koh JBR neh murga banaya, hena Munna.

Munna does not respond. Sameer and Pandit look at each other.

Pandit: Munna!

Sameer: Munna!

Munna: Huh, kiya?

Pandit: Kis soch meh koh gaya?

Sameer: Kiya hain Munna? Swati seh milli?

Munna: Nah, college nahin ayi.

Sameer: Phir seh?

Munna: Haan.

Pandit: Maandi hogi, aisa kuch hoga.

The phone rings, its Naina.

Sameer: Naina, acha huwa tu ne phone kiya. Swati koh dekha kiya.

Naina: Nahin, kyon.

Sameer: Kuch nahin, aisa hi.

Naina: Mujhse kuch chupate ho?

Sameer: Nahin toh.

Naina: Karna bhi mat.

Sameer: Nahin karunga. Munna koh torah tension hain isliye poochta hoon.

Naina: Mein pata kar keh bataungi.

Sameer: Acha, Munna kah mood teek hoga.

A little while later, Naina calls back. Sameer answers the phone.

Sameer: Haan Naina, Swati kiya kehti. (He listens on the phone) Toh teek hain, tab tak intezaar karte.

Munna: Kiya kahan Bhabhi neh?

Sameer: Swati ghar par nahin hain, jab woh lautegi Naina koh phone karegi.

SCENE 10: At college in Poonawala's class. Munna is lost in thought.

Poonawala: Munna, meh tumse baat kar rahan hoon.

Pandit nudges him.

Munna: Sorry, sir.

Poonawala: Toh mein yeh pooch rahan tha, tu neh play keh liye naam nahin diya.

Munna: Interest nahin hain.

Poonawala: Kyon?

Munna: Dobara reject karna chahta hain, sir?

Poonawala hands him a copy of the script: Isse paron phir soch interest hain keh nahin.

Poonawala continues to teach.

Munna whispers to Naina: Swati neh kiya kahan?

Naina: Ab tak baat nahin huwi.

Kamya tu Sunaina: Tu neh Swati koh dekha?

Sunaina: Nahin. Bohut din hogay woh college nahin ayi.

There's an announcement over the intercom system. "Diyaand dijiye, please. Naina, Preeti, Kamya, Hema, Munna, Pandit, Sameer, aur Sunaina aap koh principal neh bulaya hain. Please come to the principal's office urgently. Thank you

Karthik: Aur lafra kiya kameeno neh.

Priyank: Principal, rusticate kyon nahin karte,uff!

Poonawala: Karthik, Priyank, shut up!. Aap log jha sakte ho.

Naina, Preeti, Kamya, Hema, Munna, Pandit, and Sunaina leave. They meet Sameer outside the principal's office.

Hema: Principal neh hamme kyon bulaya?

Kamya: Ab ham neh kiya kardiya?

Pandit: College khi chaar din bhi nahin huwe aur principal ma'm koh hum seh shikayat hain?

Preeti: Yaar, khonsi shikayat. Sab boring hi tha ab tak.

Sameer: Relax, aisa kuch nahin hoga. Principal koh kuch aur kaam hoga.

Principal: Acha aap sab yahan hain. Karthik, Priyank aur Mithali nahin aye hain? Secretary, unne bulaye. Aap log andar aao.

JBR is present. Greetings take place.

Principal: Toh meine aap sab koh isliye bulaya kyon keh mujhe iss saal kohi bhi shikayat nahin sunna hain tumahare bare mein. Final year hain, aap paraayi karlo aur rukhsat ho jaao.

Pandit is about to say something, but Sameer stops him.

Principal and JBR exchange a look.

Principal: Toh mein kiya keh rahi thi. Haan, aap log koh iss saal kah programme keh bare meh pata hain nah?

They all nod and say: Yes ma'm.

Principal: Good. Naina sports aur English tuition khi students kah naam likliya nah?

Naina: Haan ma'm. Mein leaao.

Principal: Abhi nahin baad mein. Mujhe aap sab khi madadd chahiye iss programme koh successful banane meh.

They all nod and say: Yes ma'm.

Priyank, Karthik and Mithali enter.

Principal: Ayiye, ayiye. Ekh aur baat. Sameer, tu tera purane class par shift hoja.

Shock registers on everyone's faces.

Karthik: Kyon Madam?

JBR: Chup!

Principal: Agar tu neh iss saal mujse phir mere fesle khi waje maanga, toh tere khair nahin hoga Karthik. Bata rahan hoon. VJN kah principal hum hain aur tujhe hummare fesle kah palan karna sawaal nahin. Samjha?

Karthik: Yes Ma'm.

Principal: Toh Sameer. Sab seh bara shart tu neh paar kiya, 95% haasil karne meh. To iss liyeh meh woh sharton koh tora relax karta hoon. Purane class meh shift hoja.

Sameer: Yyyes Ma'm.

Each one in the group pointedly look at their shoes in an effort to contain their joy. They purposely do not look at each other so as not to let any emotion show.

Principal: Larki seh nah milne kah shart jhari rahegi lekin usko tweak kartein. Mujhe maloom huwa keh Sameer aur Naina khi shaadi khi baatein ho rahan hain. Iss liye meh aap sab seh yahin kahungi. Group meh aap sab mil kar saat reh kar kohi dikhat nahin hain. Lekin, college meh akele milein aur yeh sab joh huwa nahin honi chahiye. Us sab seh door rahoon, meherbani kar keh, okay?

Everyone: Yes Ma'm.

Principal: Aap sab ekh dusre keh saat doh iss sharton kah palan karnein meh, huh?

Everyone: Yes Ma'm.

Principal: Yehin kehna tha mujhe aap sab jha sakhte. Good luck.

They begin to leave almost falling over one another to get out.

Principal: Wait, rukho.

They stop abruptly and bump into each other.

Principal and JBR laugh.

JBR: Good one Madam.

Principal: Mein ekh chizz bhool gayi.

She removes envelopes from her draw. The Principal hands out each envelope to Naina, Sameer, Preeti, Pandit, Kamya, Hema, Sunaina and Munna. They take it frowning.

Karthik: Aur hummare?

Principal looks at him with raised eyebrows.

Karthik: Sorry Ma'm.

Munna almost in a whisper: Kiya hai yeh Madam?

JBR: Munna? Are tu yahan hain. Pheli baar tujhe itha dher chup dekha.

Principal: JBR, chup hojao, please. Munna seh seekh. Mujhe pata nahin, Munna. Swati neh mujhe aap koh dene keh liye diya.

Munna in a whisper: Swati... kahan... hai?

Everyone waits with bated breath for the response. To them it feels like an eternity before she answers.

Principal: Chaligay.

Munna in an almost inaudible whisper: Ch..ch..chaligay, kkkahan?

He's looking at the principal with an inaudible plea in his saucerlike eyes.

Principal in almost a whisper: Usne humme nahin bataya.

Tears stream down Munna's cheeks as he runs out of the office. The others, suddenly awakened from their shock, run after him. They barely hear the principal telling Karthik, Sunaina, Mithali and Priyank to remain behind.

Sameer, Pandit, Kamya, Preeti, Hema and Naina reach the garden and find Munna on his knees in the college garden, tears streaming down his face. His head held up to the sky in a pose of utter helplessness. The envelope is on the floor in front of him drenched in tears. The ink from his name on the envelope has run and is almost faded.

Pandit stops them from going to Munna.

Pandit in a virtual whisper: Abhi nahin.

They sit down on the grass far behind Munna. They are all looking at Munna. Their faces are streaked with tears; helplessness etched on each face. Swati's envelopes are in their hands still unopened.

Precap: Three way split screen:

Screen 1: Munna is lying in Pandit's lap in the garden. Sameer is sitting with them. Munna has cried until he has no tears left. Pandit is rubbing his hands over Munna's shoulders as one would do to console a small child. Sameer has one of Munna's hands in his two hands. No one is saying anything.

Screen 2: The girls are sitting to one side with their envelopes open, looking at it in disbelief.

Screen 3: Swati entering the premises of Surat College of Fine Arts. Her face gives nothing away. Her eyes are however clouded over and unreadable.
