Hi Guys,

Just finished watching all the episodes. I really liked the story so far. And I could relate to so many things, for I was 8 years old in 1990. This serial has been a trip down the memory lane. There are so many things I want to share and write. Right now I want to talk about Sameer. I will talk about Naina too, and so many other things in future (hopefully!!!)

I can understand Sameer. I was that angry, confused kid then. My mom left my dad in 1992, when I was 10 years old because he was physically and emotionally abusive. It was big deal back then. We were in a small town with population of less than 30k. Everyone had a say in my mom's story. Everyone advised against her leaving her husband. She was supposed to adjust and compromise on her physical and emotional well being and that of her children because it is against society's norms. So, as much as I remember those days fondly, I also realize that as a woman, I am far better off today than 30 years back. Yes, there are things that need to change even now. But, it is still better than what it was. What they have shown of Naina and her situation is true, sometimes even worse.

Anyways, I am going in a different tangent. Back to Sameer.

He is angry at world, and with his mother. I was too, for a long time. We really do not know what is going on with his mom and step father. He might be abusing her emotionally. He is her second husband and that is itself a big deal back then. It is easy to manipulate such a woman who has no where else to go. But, as much as I can understand her dilemma, it is not right for her not understand her first son. She does not understand him and love him the way he wants her to.

Parents are our first super heroes. They are our protectors, care givers, our safety net. Sameer has lost his father. All he has is his mother who should give me that emotional bond, support and protection. He does not know why his mother wont love him. He thought if he does as well as his half brother does in school, she will love him again. All his efforts was wasted and he faced humiliation as a thief in front of his mother. Surely she will not love him again. Again and again he is faces with the thought that he is not loved by own mother. Right now he is lost. He is drowning in self hatred. Surely there is something wrong with him because even his mother does not love him. He does not hate the world, he hates himself. He agrees with the world who thinks he is a bad person.

I felt abandoned too, because my mom was not available for me. As a single parent she was working full time to put food on the table. But try telling that to a 10 year old kid.

It will take lot of effort and will to come out of this state of mind. Not sure how much we will see on screen. But trust me, it is very difficult for such a person to accept that he is someone worthy of love, that the person who loves him will not leave him in the middle, to gain self worth and be confident in your self. Some experiences imprints on your mind and have a huge impact on your life.

And why did he not stay back with Naina after yesterday's confrontation? Because he does not believe in himself, that he just a kid who made a mistake. He believes himself to be unworthy of any kind of love and thus there is no redemption for him. So why try?

But he will come around and he will turn his life around. Because I did and because it is a serial and if this does not happen, they will lose viewers😃..

Love
Kshithi

PS: The whole raksha bandhan sequence is true... We did plan to tie rakhis to the most notorious and naughty boys. Once I tied rakhi to my classmate and he was really sweet. He gave me 50 paisa. Trust me, we could buy lot of things for half a rupee in those days.

PPS: My first crush was when I was in 7th std. His name was Srihari. I got his name for secret santa and I was floating on the clouds for a long time. When I got to know he had got my name, I was in heaven. 😆

Loved to read your views and felt so touched to read your personal experiences😊
It really takes courage to take this step and that too in those days was all the more difficult😳

It is a social taboo even today so i understand how would that be in 90s... really hats off to your Mom👏

Hope you have a great time here with all of us😃

The post ended on such a cute note. :P Well even though I get a lot of points on the shows hitting on the 90s nostalgia. I think they are sort of unfair in portraying the current generation. :P A lot things have changed for better and some for worse. Even though love is now a very complicated deal these days. The essence remains more or less same. Break up are still emotional deal for most. Not everyone goes to FB to pour out their feelings. Lifes lot complicated now yes. But people want the same things still.

Thank you. What should I call you? 😊

It is a huge deal even now, but those days were really bad for women.

Of course, as much as there were problems in those days, there was also a charming simplicity which was inherent in people, in the environs. That is missing now.

Thanks. 😊

I have both bad and good memories of that time.

I agree to what you have written. Of course there was a simplicity to that era, but people were also like frogs in the well. We could not connect to the outside world, because there was no internet, phones etc.

So, every era, every time, every society has good things and bad things. This has been true through the history of time, through thousands of years human existence. While we should remember our past era fondly and appreciate for all the experiences we had, we also have to move forward. As mush as I remember past with some affection, the things which has shaped me to be what I am now, I appreciate the present and hopeful for the future. I am glad that the freedom and independence and choices I only got during my 20s as a woman in this society, there are younger women who do not have to face we all faced.

This post❤️ ...Kshihti got too emotional reading it and what you have mentioned about the 90s is so true...Life was very simple back then, not many electronic gadgets and we lived happily in our own small world.

Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your life, and do share more of your thoughts from the serial on this forum:)

Thank you. 😃

It is great to talk about my formative years, my childhood and teenage years along with this love story, and to connect both.

Welcome to the forum Kshiti. Did I read elsewhere in some other thread you are a writer ?
Nice to read your epxeriences..

Samuhik Rakshabandhan was true.. lol ! 😆 That track was the one that really attracted to me to the show. I had never heard of such a thing. That track was really well done, Sameer and Naina trying all tricks to be away from each other that day and ofcourse their first water tap talk❤️ Even though Sameer was fake, he was too charming. 😳

I am a writer. Not a published one, but it is my passion.

Yup, in my school even though it was not official like how they have shown in the serial, girls used to gather all the coins we could find to buy rakhis. One year, I did not have money so I made few, with some woolen and threads. There was always one or two guys to whom all the girls used to tie rakhi because they were naughty. 😃

Now that there is no bet, I am excited about Sameer's journey towards love.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Nice to see more and more fans of YUDKBH!!

I was also a 90's kid/teen, and I just got hooked from the 1st episode. I can relate to Naina a lot, and even Sameer too actually. Two of the cutest characters on TV! 😊
