(Black) magical viewing -Divyanka Tripathi-

Superstition, black magic, occult... Our TV shows are currently thriving on these. And the audiences, too, of course love it as the ratings are through the roof.

We wonder whether the saas-bahu storyline has exhausted steam, which has led to, the makers fall back on outdated concepts like nagins, witches, shape-shifters and black magicians.

In Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Ishita is currently possessed by her husband's ex-wife's ghost, who is making her do crazy things. What was the need for the supernatural element?

Divyanka Tripathi, who plays Ishita, says, "The track is going great guns. Obviously I too was skeptical about becoming possessed. But I am really enjoying my character."

She adds, "I do not agree that the content is outdated. Magical tales and supernatural elements have always been there and people like them. We are catering to the audiences' demands. Ekta (Kapoor) always gives the audiences what they want."

And people are quite involved with the storyline. "One gentleman has been shooting hate mails stating, Shagun leave the body of Ishita or else I will stop watching the show'. Many kids are also now scared of Ishita as their parents tell them " yeh karlo varna Ishita aa jayegi. I think I am giving tough competition to even Gabber Singh," laughs Divyanka.

I respect Ekta Kapoor as business entrepreneur , for what she has achieved in mans world as a women , BUT I do not agree that she gives what public wants ! She changed the meaning of entertainment by conditioning the viewers for years to make them believe that they WANT to see misery in household, good against evil , evil wins for 699 episodes and good wins only 20 minutes in last episode . Her business strategies are brilliant , by hiring best actors , don't invest much on writers as I have never seen any GOOD writers on her team, main concept is always taken from a book and then her team makes the episodes as they go along , Indian Forum's fan
Fiction are better writers then what she has . Same with YHM , the viewers are loyal to their stars , the actors give their best , with their heart and soul , the irony is the credit never goes to them by the creatures and it's always " Ekta gives what the viewers wants ", the only things which Ekta give the best is the cast ... These mafia style soaps are never ending , the creativity of Indian literature and beautiful history of great poets are never seen on the small screen and I don't think we would ever see . It would always be plays like Saathiya Nibhana, YRK, SSK, BV, DaB ... One would always wonder would we ever be able to see DT playing role like Kashaf or Kiran or a role from Aruntadi Rai's heroine , or Lata from Vikram Seth's novel ???? The actors are giving their life time to 3000 episode and only 1 character they would be ever able to play !
