I don't think it's abnormal. If you compare their behavior with cliched couples of TV then it might seem abnormal. But they are in a phase in there relationship where they haven't started the 'married' life completely but they are people in love and their behavior, the hugs and being at ease with physical proximity is quite normal if you think of them as boyfriend - girlfriend. I think they consider themselves as BF-GF.

See, that's how both of them were created- Dean is the natural protector, he's fearless, he's got immense skills and he is one of the most noble men ever born where as Sam is this kid brother who's tried all his life to just avoid his destiny of being a hunter. If Sam wasn't this flawed, Dean wouldn't have to be a superhuman trying to save his brother's ass! I love them both, of course Dean get's the lions share of my love, but I love Sam too. And off screen I adore and envy Jensen and Jared's friendship! They are perfect!
