Chapter Two: Going back to New Beginnings.

Raman cringed inwardly as soon as he stepped inside his house. It was that day of the week when he wished he could be non-existent - Sunday! In just 16 days his home had once again become just a house, with four walls enclosing the facade we called "relationships"

Ruhi was furious. He felt her small fingers unwrapping itself from him as she ran to her dadi.

"Yeh sab kya hai dadi? Yaha kya ho raha hai? Aaj Sunday hai na, Aaj hum sabko saath mein Milke lunch karna hai. Toh phir Yeh saare log? I don't like this dadi. Meri Toh kisko fikar hi nahi hai."

Toshi Bhalla as usual was mute to Ruhi's incessant questioning. The past 16 days had aged her in a way she never thought she could. She had become an outsider in her own house, taking orders from someone, and all this for the sake of her "Ghar ka Chirag" Aditya.

Just when she opened her mouth to answer Ruhi, the man of the house (or that's what he assumed to be) came from his room, shouting for his dad's attention. He ran to a tired, weak Raman and hugged him.

On any other day before this, Raman would have lapped Adi in his arms and showered him with all his love, but not today, today he didn't have anything to give him. She had taken it all from him. She left not only with his happiness but that part of him that had learnt how to love. He stood there as he caught Shagun approaching them.

Decked in one of these umpteen designer saree and a revealing blouse, her eyes glinted with motive.

From far she pointed to him and introduced him to her social butterflies seated in perfect tandem on his couch.

"Raman baby you are here. Welcome home. Kitna Kaam karte ho aap. Mere aur baccho ke liye Toh waqt hi nahi hai." She pouted, as if it had been a forever ritual for her.

"You know girls I am the luckiest girl on this earth. Raman is the prefect husband and father to my kids. Aur Yeh Dekho na, he gifted me these earrings on new year. Beautiful na. Real diamonds, khandaani hai."

By then Shagun was perfectly seated in the center of everyone's attention as her "friends" glinted and gleamed at the possession she showed off to them.

Raman had no energy for this bullshit. He dropped his coat, left Adi's hand and took Ruhi in his arms and retired to his room.

As soon as he stepped inside, her fragrance caught his nostrils, she still lingered somewhere with him in the presence of these four walls. He put Ruhi on his lap as she picked up that beautiful picture of them kept on the dresser.

"Hum kitne happy they na papa. Mujhe pata hai aap Bahut sad ho aur ishima Bhi Bahut sad hongi. Toh phir Aapne Shagun mummy ko kyun choose kiya? Ishima ne jaane se pehle mujhse kaha tha ki papa ko Ruhi ki zarurat hai Varna mujhe Toh unke saath hi jaana tha. Please papa kuch karo. Hamare Ghar se manhusiyat ko nikaal ke Ishima ki happiness ko le Aao."

Raman hugged her tighter and made a silent promise to her.

"Ruhi, ek pati bhale hi haar gaya ho but Ek baap ko mein kabhi nahi haarne dunga. Tumhare yeh iccha mein puri karke rahunga. Kaha ho Ishita, I need you. Pagalo ki tarah tumhe dhundh chuka hoon. Kaha ho Tum."

She could feel him pining for him. His voice was in the air, begging her to come back. She had never thought they out of all the people could connect at this level. But she always knew when he was restless, when his heart bled. But, she was helpless.

She came out of her thoughts as two small fingers pulled her kurta and demanded her attention.

"Ishu Akka my building fell down. Please help me."

It had not taken any thought for Ishita to decide what she was going to do when she came to Chennai. It was etched in her heart that it had to be something for children. She could never be Ishima to anyone but Ruhi but being around children preserved Ruhi's love around her.

Ishita had just started helping the small girl, when a large smile broke out on her face.

"Ishuuu!"

Asha, stood at the door of the classroom, with her hands on the hip and a fake- angry pout plastered on her face. Ishita knew what was coming next.

"Kya hai yeh, over-time Karne ka Itna shauk hai tumhe? Mere paas aur paise nahi hai tumhe deneko abhi. Mere iss chottu se school ko tumhari aadat ho jayegi"

Ishita couldn't help but smile at her. Asha loved getting angry at her for always working. Far away from home, she had found someone who could lagao daat to her just like her Amma, support her just like Appa, advise her just like Akka, do masti with her just like Mihika and be a friend to her just like Bala jiju.

Asha had taken to stand next to her when she had nowhere to go. Ishita's childhood friend and Mylapore Children's Home's owner had done what she never thought she could do, helped her start her life. Afresh and anew.

"Ishu, kya yaar? Tu phir se extra Kaam kar Rahi hai. This isn't good. Baccho tell your Ishi Akka to take rest also sometimes.
Vaise Ishi I was here to tell you that it's going to be 12 soon and it's Sunday. So you know where you need to be right?"

Ishita froze. Yes. It was Sunday. And it was 12. With a quick moment she got up, thanked Asha, promised the kids she will be back and ran. Ishita knew she couldn't miss this. Panting and huffing she reached the School PCO exactly when the phone started to ring. She knew it was for her.

The warden smiled and gestured her to pick it up. Ishita composed herself and picked up the phone. And what she heard next made her heart beat faster.

"Ishimaaa"
