This is not like the Christian weddings. Basically when two people come forward for a civil marriage, the court has no way of knowing whether they are legally free to get married. The court puts up a notice on its bulletin board giving the name and address of the bride and groom inviting anybody to bring to its notice if either of the parties is either legally married or underage or mentally unsound etc.

A simple objection that Shagun could raise is that Mihir is being forced to marry his Boss's SIL in order to protect his job. Being blackmailed or pressurized/threatened is also a cognizable legal impediment.

But if Mihir is being blackmailed why should his sister of all people raise an objection in court? Why not his parents? or Mihir himself.

Does not make sense. Makes mockery of such laws.
