I know I am on a story roll...this story is Paru's brain child. then added to it were brainstorming from Vandana, Bhanu, Oishi and Zeno...so dedicated to the most sanskari G gang of our forum! G ko galath matth samjho yaar...G for Girls đ!

So here it is...Mehndi lagaake rakhna...

It was celebration time at Iyer and Bhalla household. Mihika's mehndi ceremony preparation was in progress. As always, Ishita was running around the whole place making sure that everything is perfect. Mrs Bhalla's sudden trip to London had really put all the burden on her shoulders. Though Mrs Bhalla had shortened the trip and landed that very morning as she couldn't miss all these important functions, Ishita compelled her to take rest assuring that she would take care of everything.
Raman kept taunting her throughout the day but hidden behind the taunts was his care and concern for her. He knew that she was working so hard to make the day perfect for the entire family.
He sure pretended that he was least interested but he did do whatever he could to ease her tension and also appointed people for helping with the chores and errands. He helped her but made sure he taunted for that as well
"Sab tumpe choda toh mehndi haldi ho jaayega..."
She shook her head amused at her husband's words while her mind and heart very well knew what he really intended. She silently smiled to herself as he walked away after giving her the list of people and their phone numbers whom he had delegated the works to. She just had to supervise and check the progress.
Towards the evening, the mehndi started upholding all the Punjabi and Tamil culture and traditions. Ishita made sure that there were no clashes in it.
Even when she was assured that all things are in place, she wasn't at ease. Vandu and Mihika had to literally catch her and put her steady in a place. Though she kept protesting and saying that she would put mehndi on her hands later, they weren't the ones to listen.
So eventually she gave up when Romi and Bala took up the responsibilities and announced that it was a rest day for all the ladies. Bala said that it was a time when the wives should relax and get time off from their duties as their hands are filled with mehndi.
Ishita smiled and held out her hand to the girl who was putting mehndi designs to all ladies there.
Raman who was a mute spectator to all the drama happening acted as if least affected by all this.
The most famous mehndi songs were running on loop. The kids were dancing and having gala time playing and doing pranks.

Mihika's hands were already done with a beautiful pattern after the initial shagun mehndi which Mihir's sister Shagun had put on her hands.
Ashok and Suraj were also there as they were also part of family now or it was assumed to be so. Raman didn't want a scene created and that in turn spoil Mihir-Mihika's happiness. So he kept cool and focused on his latest interest. Actually not a latest interest. She always interested him but then he was showing it off more and making it evident nowadays.
She sat instructing the girl about which design to put on her hands. The girl started designing and Ishita was keenly observing it. Raman was thankful to Vandu and Mihika for making her sit in a place, else he knew that she hadn't even stood still in a place from early that morning. His ego didn't allow him to tell her directly to rest for some time but he was literally wishing that she rests for a while.
Though he was amidst a group of people and seemed engrossed in their talk, his eyes were only on her. His mind was never in those talks but was with her.
He saw her biting her lips and then pouting a little asking for a design change. She shook her head when she agreed to something. Every mannerism of hers was clear to him. He exactly knew what those gestures meant and what she was intending by those. He smiled at her childlike behaviour. He saw the child in her come alive at those moments. Her little wishes, her stubbornness, her silly anger, her annoyance, her beautiful smile...every damn thing was literally blowing him out of his senses. The next time she bit her lips, he mentally smacked her with a chuckle thinking, "Paagal madrasan, apne hi hoton pe gussa nikaalthi hai!"
The mehndi was done and soon it was dinner time. Bala was the first to fill a plate with Vandu's favourite dishes. Mihir followed suit. Ishita heard Mihika and Vandu ordering their better halves about what all dishes to get and also rightfully demanded to feed them dinner.
The elders in the family, Mr Bhalla and Mr Iyer weren't any different.
Even Ashok had to feed Shagun as she ordered him before everyone. Suraj hissed in annoyance and stomped out of the hall pretending a call. He was least interested in seeing such filmy romances. Or perhaps, he was jealous that he had none to pair up with!
Every couple settled down leaving behind just Ishita and Raman.
Was it shyness, embarrassment or perhaps a hesitation to take the first step towards it? Ishita didn't know whether she had the right to make that demand to Raman while he wasn't sure of what to do or if she will like it
He heard Bala and Mihir commenting on something related while Vandu and Mihika were teasing Ishita to order Raman.
He heard her reply, "nahi nahi akka...main bass haath wash karne waali hoom...phir khaalungi..."
Ishita uneasily stood up to escape the teasing words and glances. She decided to wash it away and then eat. She walked over to the washroom area when all were busy with feeding and eating the food. She was about to enter the area when a hand grabbed her back. She was startled but then relaxed realizing that it was him.
She kept her hand on her heart to calm her heart beats and spoke up
"Raman...aapne toh mujhe daraa hi diya"
He swirled her around further and enquired, "kya karne jaa rahe ho?"
She gave a confused look and replied, "Hand wash karke dinner khaane jaa rahi hoom Raman..."
"Uss ladki se itni mehnat karwaake usse aise hi paani mein bahaa dogi, huh?"
His question made her realize that he had been noticing everything. She felt embarrassed all of a sudden but she didn't know why. She sighed and replied, "I am hungry Raman...toh..."
He cut through her words, "I know...subah se kuch nahi khaaya toh bhook toh lagegi...ek baar galati se super woman kya keh diya tum toh aasmaan mein super woman bannke udd rahi ho..."
She hissed at that, "Raman..."
He didn't give her a chance to speak further, "Come..." and took her back to the hall. All the couples were still busy in their own romantic world. They didn't seem to notice what was happening here.
Raman chose a place which was quite secluded and hidden from the others, "yahaan beito...I am bringing the food"
She sat on the chair he pointed as she knew that he wasn't going to heed to her denial today.
