Hola everyone!
I'm back with an update! I seem to be on a roll today. Lol! Thank you so very much for all your kind words about the story so far. This chapter is pretty short but that was the demand of the story so apologies for that. Its pretty late at night for me so I won't be able to send out PMs right away. I'll send them out later. In the meantime, do read and let me know how you like/hate the chapter.
Cheers,
Neet
Chapter 3
"She goes with me.."
Abhi and Ishita, both turned towards Raman who kept looking straight ahead.
"What?" Ishita exclaimed.
"Raman, that's not possible.." Abhi tried to reason.
"Then make it happen. She goes with me or we drop this whole thing right here, right now. I'll hire all the security in the world for myself.. And even her if need be.. But if we are going to be put in a Witness Protection Program, she goes with me," he declared with finality. Abhi knew Raman well enough to know that once he'd made up his mind on something, there was no swaying him. "You know this is going to complicate things right?" Abhi tried to reason with him anyhow. "I don't care," Raman replied. Ishita stood dumbstruck wondering what on earth was going on. What had her Appa said to this stranger that he'd suddenly decided that they would stay together, and how dare he decide that for himself? Ishita was about to tell him exactly what she thought of him and his high handedness when Abhi spoke up. "There is only one way we can accommodate your request." Raman glanced towards Ishita and replied nonchalantly, "We'll do it." Ishita thought her jaw would hit the floor pretty soon if the situation continued this way. First of all, this random stranger manhandles her, then he yells at her for no fault of hers, then he says he won't leave her only and now he is even agreeing to act married to her. Just what the hell was going on? Abhi looked at Ishita expecting her to speak up and say something but she just stood there staring at Raman. "It's very risky Raman. And think about the lady here," Abhi told him. "There is nothing to think about Abhi. She goes with me, anywhere, anyhow. That's it," Raman said. Ishita finally managed to curb her desire to wring this infuriating man's neck long enough to speak up, "Excuse me! I am not okay with this arrangement," she said sternly. "Listen woman," Raman began, only to be cut off by Ishita. "No! You listen to me! I don't know who you think you are, but whoever you are, you do not, I repeat, you do not get to take decisions on my behalf. I know you think I am some hare-brained female like you've told me so yourself but I am not and I can very well take care of myself. So, thank you but no thank you. I will not go with you!" she yelled at him. "Oh wow! Madam, thank you for enlightening us and telling us you can take of yourself. I must say, you had me fooled when you stood there like a statue right in front of the killer when he was on a murderous spree. Or let me see, are you referring to the time when I saved you from the killer and had you in a safe place only to have you choose that very minute to practice your marathon skills in those very comfortable running shoes you have on, in the middle of the night in a city like Delhi?" Raman retorted. "Listen, you might lead a life where murder is an everyday affair and you know just how to react but I do not. I was shocked. I didn't know what to do," Ishita immediately became defensive. "Oh my bad!" Raman quipped sarcastically, "This Witness Protection Program has nothing to do with hiding from a killer and saving yourself does it? This is just a holiday the police department is sending us on because of the stressful day we've had, right Abhi? If the killer finds you, you can just stand there shocked again so he can finish off his unfinished business." "I will do whatever I want, Mister. It is none of your business. If the killer finds me and kills me, it should be none of your concern," she retorted angrily. Was this woman testing his patience or what, Raman thought. "Listen woman, I promised your dad that I'd take care of you and now you are my responsibility. So, from this moment on, I am making it my concern. Whether you like it or not, you are staying with me and if we have to act married for that, then so be it. Big deal," he shrugged his shoulders in a careless manner. "I can't just fake being married to some random guy!" Ishita continued with her protests. "Oh come on! Now don't give me all those filmy dialogues about saath phere and saath janam and sati savitri wife and all that crap. Marriage is just a charade that people go through for society; and something for movies and TV soaps to cash in on and sell drama and dreams to the masses. There is nothing more to it," he stated bitterly. Ishita was taken aback by the bitterness in his words. "You have two options - You can either agree to this willingly and make things easier or you can fight and argue and make a fuss and make it difficult. Either way, you are staying with me - and no matter what, that will not change," he stated authoritatively before walking away.

"Ma'am, I do understand your concerns. If you insist that you do want to go to a separate place, I will accommodate your request but.." Abhi looked towards Raman who was standing in the balcony, his back towards them, "not as the DGP of Delhi, but as Raman's friend who has known him pretty much all his life, let me tell you that he never breaks his word. If he has promised your dad that he'll take care of you, then he'll do that at any cost." "But my Appa spoke to him thinking he was speaking to you. It doesn't even make sense! I don't even know him and he expects me to trust him and act like his wife for God knows how long! Don't you see how ridiculous this is?" Ishita asked Abhi. "All I can say is, Raman is an honorable man. If I had a sister caught in a similar situation, I would trust him to keep her safe," Abhi said. "The decision is yours to make but please keep in mind that we are running short on time. Our first and foremost priority is to get you to your safe places as soon as possible. So whatever you do decide, please decide quickly." With that Abhi walked away. Ishita stared at the stranger who'd admittedly, saved her life tonight. But was that enough for her to trust him? She wondered.
All the planets are lining up to change your fate. Today will be the day that will change your life forever. Some decisions will be made for you and some you will make but it will all lead to the right path. Fighting the change will do you no good. It's a day where even a stranger you meet will decide the course of your life like you never imagined possible. Make sure you accept the right proffered hand before its too late because this journey cannot be undertaken alone.
Ishita felt like laughing out loud. She just remembered her daily horoscope her mother had read out to her this morning. Of course her Amma had interpreted all of this in the context of her marriage. But was she wrong! Ha! It was crazy how her horoscope had come true! Some decisions will be made for you and some you will make but it will all lead to the right path. Make sure you accept the right proffered hand before its too late because this journey cannot be undertaken alone. Those two lines seemed to playing on repeat in Ishita's mind. Having made her decision, she walked over to where Abhi sat.

"She agreed," Abhi said coming to stand next to Raman in the balcony. Raman simply nodded his head. "You should really get married to her," Abhi joked. Raman looked at him annoyed. "I've never seen anyone stand up to you and give you their piece of mind like that ever before. She is the kind of girl you need. She'd do you good," Abhi commented. "Stop talking nonsense. You are the DGP of this city. People are going to lose faith in the city police if they come to know that their DGP is actually a nutcase," Raman quipped. "I am not talking to you as DGP Abhinav Shukla, Raman. I am talking to you as Abhi, your childhood friend," Abhi replied. "Oh boy! How I wish I could actually see the two of you acting like a married couple. I bet it would be a real entertainer!" saying that, Abhi started to laugh. "Why don't you take a holiday and come with us to watch the show live? Since we are all role playing, I'll give you the role of my mother. What say? Both of you have the same things running on your mind - matchmaking for me," Raman grumbled. Abhi laughed some more before he stopped and grew all serious. "Jokes aside Raman. I hope you know what you are getting into. If the media gets even the slightest inkling of any of this, I mean the marriage part.." Abhi left his sentence unfinished. Raman knew what he was referring to. "You'd better catch the killer really soon before anything of that sort happens," Raman replied. Abhi nodded his head and patted Raman on his shoulder before walking away.
"Whats her name?" Raman's voice stopped Abhi in his tracks and he turned around. "Seriously?" Abhi asked. Raman shrugged his shoulders indicating that he really had no idea what her name was. "Ishita.. Dr. Ishita Iyer.." Abhi replied, "She is a dentist." Raman nodded his head and went back to staring out into the distance while Abhi walked away shaking his head.
