Chapter 2
It was a long drive, away from the city. The way seemed to lead to a deserted area, the lights kept diminishing in the background as they drove away. Into peace and calmness. "Where are you taking me?"
"This is where you get to say your last words before I get rid of you."
"Really? You give up already?"
"Don't you think 6 months have been enough to bear you?"
"How would I know? I seem to have bigger problem than yours."
"Which is?"
"To live with a monster is not an easy task, I must tell you."
"I pity that monster, may be you should say good bye to him before you die?"
"You!.. " she tried an exasperated gasp.
"Get out of the car." As he made his way towards her side after parking the car at top of a hill.
When she got out, she was still taking in the beautiful sight. The cool breeze seemed to add another notch to the exotic view. The twinkling lights of the city sparkled from the hill top. It began to get a bit chilly as the breeze continued to whirl around them.
"Do you like it ?" He almost sounded like a boy who had just shared his favorite candy with his friend.
"It's amazing, Raman. How do you know this place?" She asked still beaming.
He stood next to her with his hands in his pockets and looked at the view. "A couple of years ago. When I would visit my family and somehow the brutal past used to come in my way I would try to escape and after wandering about this area, I found this spot."
"Does it still bother you?" He knew what she meant. If he still longed for his ex? Does he still miss her?
"No." He replied looking deep in her eyes, without blinking.
She moved a bit forward to have a better view. He came up behind her and asked "and you?"
"What about me?" She turned around to look at him.
"Does it still bother you?"
She sighed then and resumed her former posture. "There was a time, when a mere mention of wedding would remind me of the deceit. I, like other girls, longed for a partner. But I think whatever happens, happens for a reason and if I had to choose again I wouldn't change a singe thing." She smiled up at him with eyes gleaming of the happiness that she now has in her life.
"Why?" He couldn't help asking her.
"Because I got better than a partner. I got my soul mate."
He didn't ask much then, just looked at the scenery in front of him, thinking about Ruhi.
"You?" She couldn't help but prode him.
"I think I'd like a change." He sounded serious.
"What kind of change?"
"Every one deserves a second chance and I think I'd like one too."
"Don't you think what we have is nothing less than a second chance?"
"Hmm.. May be." He began to sound a little disoriented now.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, let's go back. It might rain." As he gazed up at the sky.
"Then thats even a better reason to stay." She seemed excited but as if she understood him in that one glance, she asked him " its her, isn't it?"
"It's never her. At least not anymore."
"You don't.. "She turned away then, his mood had aggravated and she didn't want to upset him so she let it hang in the air.
He had asked her out to drive, to show her his farorite spot and also to pour his heart to her. The heart he seemed to be wearing on his sleeve lately and now he had just spoiled the precious moment. He approached her and held her back in his arms and rested his chin on her right shoulder. They both kept staring at the view."I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you." When she rubbed her hands over his arms, he gathered, some risks are worth taking. The effect her touch had on him was not his doing. Before he knew what he was doing, he asked her "do you still love him?"
She flashed him a look of anger but what she saw in return only melted hers in seconds. There was fear, longing and love in his eyes. She had known this man enough to not mistake the message in those brown eyes, so she rested her back on his shoulder and replied "no." And sighed again, it will be long before he could comprehend her love for him, she thought.
"Why?" Her husband was not a fool to let go of this opportunity to not ask for answers when she was in a negotiating mood. After all, it doesn't happen every day when this woman would reply without retorting back.
"Because I love some one else." She flinched a bit when it started to drizzle.
"Ruhi?"
"And her father too." She thought to take some risk too, she had been fighting for way too long now. She chose that moment to lower her guard and face the consequences.
"And I ask again, any last wish you'd like to have before I sentence you a lifetime punishment?" Her husband and his ways, she rolled her eyes then. She knew she had won this fight. She turned around when it started to pour down.
"A kiss perhaps?"
Their firs kiss in the rain. The most erotic that could have ever been. They were both shivering by the time they came up for oxygen, perhaps because of the chill that surrounded them or because of the effects they both had on each other.
When they both headed back home, their finger entwined. They both knew they were different from the rest of the couples, the ups and downs they have gone through have made them who they are today. What others search for, during their span of matrimony, they found their way backward. First the bond that binded them together, then the solace they found in each other and after acknowledging their love they found their reflection in each other.
The soulmates.
It was the same soulmate who was waiting for her in their bedroom. For the last two days they have been trying to get some private time but alas, the people around them demanded their constant attention with the wedding just around the corner.
Look around,
There is no one but you and me
Right here and now
They way it was meant to be
There is a smile on my face
Knowing that together
Everything that's in our way
We are better than alright
