Ishra TS(complete) : It's all about the saree!

Raman loved his wife for many reasons. Yes he did love her even though he was pretending to dislike her like it was his job. No one knew this, not even Mihir, but Raman was playing a double game. Let me explain : for some months now, he knew that he couldn't help but falling in love with Ishita, it was a slow process but an unstoppable one and Raman gave up on fighting the feelings. But he would never give up on teasing and taunting Ishita like he always did. Why you ask? Because being loved for being nice is cool, but being loved despite being rude, that's thrilling! Ishita was Jansi ki Rani but she loved him unconditionally, maybe not as a lover -yet- but as family for sure. She showed it to him during adi's court case. And whenever he taunted her he loved to see her pouting for a second before giving away the brightest smile. Sometime when he went too far, he would add a little "I'm just joking" after his taunts, because he may be rude but he wasn't heartless.

So yes, he loved her, and he was trying to show it to her without breaking his rude avatar. He would buy her gifts and give them to her like he had been majboor to do so, he would care for her but taunt her before, during and after it... His idea for a latest "proof of love" was to gift her a saree. It wouldn't be too hard to justify as he could easily say it was because of the Varalaksmi pooja.

As the saree-sellers are presenting the sarees to Ishita, Raman sees her gawk at the black and white saree but after looking at the price tag, she says it isn't for her. From the little Raman saw of the saree, he knows it would look perfect on his wife, so while she is on the phone, he goes to the saree-seller and indicates the black saree in the pile of fabric.

Raman : "whatever she ends up choosing, you add this one too." before he can say anything else, Ishita jumps on him

Ishita : " Raman ! Guess what happened? I've got my licence back! Congratulations to both of us!"

Raman : "Yeah congratulation ! Now pick up a saree, quick please! I'm getting late for work."

Ishita chooses a saree that looks a bit cheap but still nice and Raman can finally head to work, followed by the two sellers.

When Raman leaves the door, Ishita notices that the sellers have left 2 saree boxes. She calls one of them .

Ishita : "arre bhai! You've forgotten a saree!"

Seller : "Naa ji maam. Sir paid for both of the sarees."

Ishita : "Two? What does that mean?"

Seller : "Maam when you were on the phone, your husband handpicked a saree for you. You're very lucky maam, not all husbands do something like that"

Ishita is shy "Alright. Thank you, you can go."

Ishita is happy that her Ravan Kumar picked a saree for her while he was pretending he didn't want to do this. She goes into her room and open the first box : it's the kanjivaraam saree that she chose. She thinks it's very pretty and puts it in the cupboard for now. Then she opens the second box and sees the saree Raman has handpicked for her.

Ishita blushes : "Ayooo... What was Raman thinking picking up this saree for me..."

Toshi : "Ah Ishita you're here? Come we're going at your Amma place, she called us for the pooja." Ishita quickly shuts the lead on the box and tries to hide it.

Toshi : "What is that? A saree? Is that the one Raman gifted you for today's celebration?" She is very excited. "I knew he wasn't that rude as not to offer you anything! I had to force him a little but that doesn't matter now. Show me Ishita what his choice was."

Ishita : "No! ... Err I mean. This should be a Surprise right? I will wear it tonight alright?"

Toshi : "Oh I get it. Alright alright. I'll be waiting tonight to see you in this! Alright let's go now, your amma is waiting for us"

Ishita is relieved that Toshi didn't insist more and she hides the saree under lots of clothes in the cupboard.

The rest of the day goes without any trouble. It's night time when toshi calls ishita :

Ishita : "Haa mummy ji bolo"

Toshi : "Raman is about to come back, go change, put the saree he gifted you and come back, we'll start the celebrations."

Ishita "Yes mummy ji."

When ishita comes back, Toshi looks at her, amazed :

Toshi : "ishita you look very pretty in this saree. Raman picked the perfect saree for you."

Toshi and she go up on the roof, where everyone else is already there to look for the moon.

Raman is waiting with anticipation. Since Shagun never cared enough to fast for him, all these years he tried to make himself believe that he didn't care either for that type of tradition. But after seeing Ishita fasting devotedly all day, arguing with him whenever he proposed her food, he started to feel proud and blessed to have her in his life, and just like that his faith in the pooja was restored.

He is looking in the sky when he hears toshi's voice behind him.

Toshi : "everyone, our bahu has come. Please let's proceed in the celebrations!"

Raman turns around, impatient to see Ishita in the beautiful black and withe saree with a thread of silver he chose for her this morning. When his eyes falls on her, he is utterly disappointed. She is wearing the cheap looking kajivaram she picked this morning.

Ishita comes next to him, smiling. Raman rolls his eyes.

Ishita, annoyed : "Tss. What's wrong now? Can't you just be happy - or pretend to be happy- just for tonight?!"

Raman : "It's your fault."

Ishita "My fault ? How's that?"

Raman : "This awful kanjivaram saree your wearing is making me unable to enjoy myself."

Ishita : "What did you expect me wear? You saw me pick this one up this morning didn't you?"

Raman : "Yes I did. But I thought you'd understand that I wanted you to wear the saree I had picked up for you. Didn't you see the other box?"

Ishita shy "Well... I did see it. I hope you're not expecting me to wear it though... Because I won't."

Raman, angry : "I knew it! Whenever I choose something for you, you dislike it. it's the last time I ever try to gift you something. I'll just throw my credit card at you, it'll be easier for both of us."

Toshi coming closer "Arre what is going on here? It's a sacred time right now, don't you dare argue! Raman, be nice to ishita, she has fasted all day for you!! Let's proceed and break the fast."

Raman and ishita look for the moon and proceed into breaking the fast but they are both making faces at each other because they're both angry.

Raman : "See how grumpy you are? You shouldn't have fasted all day. I knew a Sherni like you couldn't miss a meal without taking it out on me."

Ishita : "I'm not grumpy because I didn't eat. I was perfectly fine until I saw your face!" She goes back inside with everyone and leaves him alone on the roof.

Raman is frustrated... He expected this night to put him on cloud nine, he had even thought about confessing part of his feelings for her but things are definitely not going in the right direction.

Raman to himself : "Forget it beta. Your rude avatar fits you better than the emotional one and it's what your madrasan deserves anyway!" He smiles bitterly and goes back inside.

When raman enters his room, ishita is in her night-time kurti, sitting on the couch and applying cream on her hands. She glares at him. She is not willing to speak to him. He decides to sort things out.

Raman : "Ishita. Why didn't you wear the saree I gifted you this morning? It's part of the tradition."

Ishita : "this must be a punjabian tradition then, because there's no such thing in our south Indian culture." She pauses and looks at him "Did you really think I would break my fast wearing THAT saree? What is wrong with you?"

Raman taken aback : "What is wrong with me? What the hell are you talking about? I thought you would like it, that's why I picked that saree. And... And I would have been happy if... if you had worn it tonight." He adds shyly.

Ishita : "Raman! You should be ashamed on yourself! You're disgusting!"

Raman : "Disgusting?! How am I disgusting? I just wanted to make you happy. I just... You know what... forget about it. If you hate it that much, just gave it back to me tomorrow morning, I'll take it back to the shop." He goes to lie in his bed, puts on his eye mask (😆) and tries to fall asleep.

Ishita was angry up to this point but as she hears the defeated tone in her husband voice, she decided to do something as she doesn't want this special day to end on a fight. She thinks about the seller : "you're lucky maam, not every husband handpicks a saree for their wife!"

She breathes deeply, gathers up her courage and goes to the cupboard.

Raman : "What are you doing in the middle of the night? Can't you wait until tomorrow to put order in the closet? Bewakoof aurat!"

Ishita, without looking at him : "Since my husband offered me a saree, I guess it'd be rude to not wear it." Her voice is stern.

Raman sits down and sighs : "ishita I'm sorry. I shouldn't have acted like that..."

Ishita glares at him : "Raman. You want to see me in this saree, yes or no?"

Raman hesitant: "... Yes. I think you'd look good in it... But..."

Ishita interrupts him : "Well it's settled then. Give me a minute". She goes into the bathroom.

Raman sits at the edge of the bed, and waits for ishita to come back.

When she is back, she is wearing the bathrobe he offered him earlier.

Raman : "... Ishita... Why are you wearing a bathrobe?"

Ishita : "I didn't want anyone to see me in the saree you chose!"

Raman annoyed : "For god's sake what is so wrong with the saree that makes you hate it that much!"

Ishita rolls her eyes and then proceed to take off the bathrobe slowly.

Raman wonders why she is acting so weird but then he understands it all. Ishita is wearing a very sexy saree : the pallu is red with a golden thread but it is transparent, and the blouse looks more like a push up bra than a blouse...☺️

Raman's mouth falls open then he gets back to his senses and puts his eye mask on.

Raman : "Ishita!! What the hell are you wearing? Where is the saree I bought for you?!"

Ishita gets embarrassed being scolded like that so she quickly puts the bathrobe back, muttering tamilian words.

Ishita : "Well Ramam Kumar bhalla ! this IS the saree YOU bought me! are you happy now ?" Raman takes the mask off slowly then completely when he realizes she is back under the bathrobe.

Raman : "What are you talking about?! This is not the saree I bought you! I picked the black and white one! Because you seemed like you loved it!..." His heart is beating really fast thinking about this big misunderstanding. He realizes that in the middle of all the fabrics, the seller might not have clearly seen what saree Raman was indicating and picked the wrong one.

Raman, sweating a little : "God... Is this why you wouldn't accept the gift? How can you even think I would gift something like that" He takes deep breathes to calm himself down.

Ishita in a high pitched voice : "I don't know!!!! when I saw it first I thought you were trying to embarrass me -as you always do- , but you seemed so disappointed on the roof..."

Raman : "I'm not trying to embarrass you! Well... I tease you a lot that's true, but I wouldn't ask you to wear something like this in front of everyone. You're my wife Ishita! My WIFE. How could you think I'd do something like that?"

Ishita: "You always act so rude with me so I don't except anything else from you now." She gathers up her clothes. "Just like today, I fasted for you but you spent all day talking about shagun... And then you offer me this... awful saree..." She says in a little voice.

She starts going towards the bathroom to change again. But Raman grabs her by the hand. The words she said hit him because he realizes that taunting his wife is okay but dismissing her efforts and comparing her to shagun is a big no-no. Ishita freezes has his hands find their way on her shoulders. He makes her face him. She has tears on her eyes out of embarrassment.

They're both embarrassed to look at each other .

Raman : "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for... wasting so much money on this awful saree..." They both laugh at the situation. Raman continues : "But I'm also sorry for not telling you how touched I was that you decided to fast for me. I had stopped excepting such things long ago, and somewhere along the line I think I stopped thinking I even deserved it. That's why I kept making fun of it all day." Ishita is hurting for him when he speaks like that.

He steps back and adds : "From now on, I'll be more thankful for everything you do, especially when you do something for... me." He tries to smile. He is very embarrassed because he can't remember the last time someone -even himself- did something for him.

Ishita smiles: "Thank you Raman. And I will. I will do things for you, sirf... aapke liye. Because I'm your wife, and it's my duty Raman. I'm here for you." She holds her hand to him like she did when she promised to be her for Adi (on the bench).

Raman grabs her hand, laughing out of nervousness. This woman is everything to him.

They share an eye lock. Raman faces gets somewhat a bit serious, he brings her closer in a hug.

Ishita : "Raman?"

Raman : "At the end of it, I'm glad I'm the only one who got to see you in this saree."

Ishita blushes

Raman : "And to add to that... I'm not sure i want to return it..." he whispers as he puts a kiss at the crook of her neck.
