Yesterday's episode is exactly the sort of thing that makes me love this show so much. There was no big and unnecessary drama, yet every scene was meaningful.
I was so glad that Ishita decided on her own not to touch Param's feet. She could have done it for Simmi, but then she decided not to do it for all women abused by men in their own homes. You go girl! What I found amusing was that she was about to give a 'lecture' when Romy stepped in, and like Raman, tackled the thing indirectly but ended the issue. I am one of those people who are forever giving lectures, so my sympathy is usually with Ishita and with women who speak up, but not every situation needs that. Without any more drama, the required reply was given. I loved the way Romy touches Param's feet and the way he said "tu bhi khush reh ke". Eeks that guy Param is a good actor. (I still haven't seen the previous episodes so this was my first encounter with his sliminess).
It was also so nice to see Ishu popping in and out of her two households, taking care of her mom while also taking care of her responsibilities. I was happy to see Toshiji acknowledging that and saying 'well done' to her. Papaji's scene was good too. The two parents have also come a long way in that they tried to make Simmi see sense, and Toshiji even said Simmi was lucky to have found out what sort of man Param is. That's quite a jump.
I only wish the eyewitness had come to the police on their own, rather than this highly improbable way. When Raman said ' really?' to Ishita when she told him about the eyewitness, that's exactly how I felt ;) but I guess it's a drama and having Raman Ishita at the police station where he inspector tells them that they have found an eyewitness would be too much even for this show. After all, only characters of the show find out things, why would the police?!
The Ishita Raman scene was so natural and effortlessly charming. My only quibble is that Raman is not stupid. He would know, in some corner of his heart, that Ishita stayed up for him, wanted to have dinner with him. Yet she brushes it aside and he lets her do so. He doesn't want to think about what this could mean. In the scene, I especially liked the way Param was handled. Ishita made it clear that she wants to give him no importance, not even think about him or discuss him or be upset about his actions. That's commendable, and I hope there is a scene where Raman can either ask Romy what happened and think about Ishita's independence, courage and maturity. Shagun would want him to avenge insults even where they were not intended, and here is a woman who handles her own problems and does not let them bother her, forget letting her husband deal with them for her.
The morning scene was good too. Normal and natural. I especially liked the way Raman, while speaking on the phone, picks up something that has fallen on the ground and gives it to Simmi. I know I sound like a broken record, but this ordinary, everyday things add a wealth of nuance to the show.
Summer camp - I have hated summer camps since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - let's see how this one goes. Perhaps they want Raman Ishita to have some time together alone, so are sending Ruhi off to summer camp. The Bala Shravan Vandu scene was nice too, though I wish Bala would shave. Sadness can be denoted even without a beard, you know!
Finally, the strength of the show comes from how much it makes us feel for all the characters. I saw the entire episode without forwarding to see only the romantic scenes of the leads. That is why I loved the episode. It reminded me that good shows are about all the people, simple scenes and good moments.
