It turned out that Ryan was one of the least flabbergasted of all her friends. Once he had gotten over the initial shock he was back to normal, not caring a penny about Alex. Rhea flipped and banged her head on the locker and Kevin had wanted to be introduced to 'the new student' as he put it. But it looked like Alex was really going to be known, and not as a freak. Sharon's initial reaction was similar to Ryan's but more of the jealous type. The moment she got over Alex's new appearance she had whisked Ryan away. Alex rolled her eyes and marched up to her place and set her books down. Ryan was busy with Sharon and Scott took this moment to slip in beside her.

"Hey!" said Alex surprised.

"Hey! I know you are supposed to be 'involved' with Kevin… but I do get to tell you how hot you look right?"

"Sure!" said Alex grinning.

"Well you look so… so…" and he stopped, gazing into her eyes, "you have to meet up with me in secret. All that Kevin-Rhea thing could take a while… and you look so kissable right now…"

"I'll think about it!" she said and grinned cheekily. The second bell rang and everyone scurried to their places. Scott squeezed her hand and went over to sit with his friends while Ryan, reluctantly, it seemed, disentangled himself from Sharon and sat next to Alex.

"I saw Scott over here…" started Ryan.

"Really? Ms-Oh-I'm-so-hot allowed you to breathe for that long?"

"I was just trying to make conversation!" he snapped.

"You couldn't have picked any other topic, could you?" she said frowning, "you had to pick one where you insult my sort-of boyfriend! Do you want me to get started on that pathetic excuse for a girl you go out with?"

"I'll have you know Sharon is really hot!"

"Whether you admit it or not, I'm hotter than her!" she said looking at him smugly, "and guess what… it is going to hurt your over-sized ego that a really hot girl isn't attracted to you!"

Ryan narrowed his eyes at her, "you can change you appearances but you are still the most annoying, irritating, obstinate, aggravating…" Alex just kept on smiling smugly and turned away paying no heed to his muttering. She unwrapped a gum and started chewing on it, answering her call. Ryan glared at her.

"That was like magic!" said Rhea, "Alex looks so great!"

"Yea… she looks so hot! I didn't even recognize her at first!" said Kevin. He couldn't stop smiling. He was so surprised. "I am going to have a hard time keeping all the guys away from her!" it came it so subconsciously and he meant it purely in a brotherly sense but Rhea's face clouded over and she gave an uneven laugh.

"So when's the first date?" she asked.

"First what?" asked Kevin, thrown off guard.

"Your first date, with Alex!" explained Rhea the chirpiness in her voice, misleading Kevin.

"Uhmmm… Friday!" he said impulsively.

"Great!" she said and Kevin, somehow, missed the sardonic tone.

"Thank you all for assembling here. Now as you all know, the first week of school is over and it is time to announce that the elections for the Student Council will begin next week…" boomed the loud, commanding voice through the auditorium. The entire school had assembled at the auditorium after lunch. Rhea was attentively listening to the Principle's speech for she was sure she was gong to run for Vice-President.

"… and remember, during the campaign I don't want any display of violence or any disruption of the normal functioning of the school. Is that understood? Good! Now for the president, any nominations?" Once the president nominations were over the call for the Vice-President Nominations began.

"I nominate Rhea Bakshi!" called Hilly standing up.

"I second that!" said Kevin standing up beside her.

"Well then Rhea Bakshi is running for Vice-President. Anyone else?" came the principal's voice.

"I nominate Sharon Hyer!" called out Sharon's friend Dora, standing up, flicking her hair behind so consciously.

"I second that!" said another cheerleader, Maria.

"Uh-oh!" whispered Kevin, leaning over to Ryan, "This is going to put you in a difficult position. Friend or Girlfriend?"

"Shut up!" gritted Ryan clearly bemused and smiled halfheartedly when Sharon flashed him her 100-watt grin.

"I nominate Scott Truscott!" said a football player and one of Scott's closest friends. Ryan's eyebrows raised into his hair.

"So that's two friends and a girlfriend!" said Kevin grinning at his dilemma. And a second nomination ensured Scott in the running.

"I can't believe that you guys set me up for Secretary!" said Hilly crossly as they filed out of school.

"Hilly, you know you're the best candidate!" consoled Ryan slipping his hand around her shoulder.

"Shut up!" she said snapping at Ryan, for he was the one who nominated her first.

"Anyway, I have practice, so I'm leaving!" he said and jogged away after waving at them and winking at Hilly. Kevin and Rhea laughed at Hilly's annoyance.

"Does this mean you won't be my campaign manager?" asked Rhea.

"Considering I have my own campaigning to do…" started Hilly sarcastically.

"Tell you what… I'll be your campaign manager if you are mine!" suggested Rhea, her eyes shining. Kevin and Hilly looked at her with Raised eyebrows.

"Honey…" started Kevin slowly, "Wouldn't it be saner if you were your own campaign manager?" Rhea contemplated it for a minute before comprehension dawned on her.

"Oh…Right!" she said and laughed at her own stupidity. Kevin smiled at her, shaking his head fondly. Alex cleared her throat so that only he could hear and winked at him. He grinned sheepishly and slipped an arm around her. Rhea glanced at them and her laughter slowly died away. It took Kevin seconds to realize how it had looked to her.

"Kev… it's getting late for tennis practice!" said Alex, smiling at Kevin, slipping an arm around him.

"Right dear! We'd better be off now!" he said and smiled at the others before setting off with her.

"Not so fast!" said Hilly, "You are going to have to meet David before that!"

"What?" asked Alex turning around.

"You're going home today Alex and before that you are meeting David! You owe him an explanation dear!" she said, "He is waiting for you outside school!"

"What?" she repeated.

"Come on!" said Hilly and took hold of her arm, steering her towards the gate and true to his word David was waiting with his friend impatiently.

"Alex!" he exclaimed and jumped down from the bike the moment he spotted her. Kevin realized that it could take a while and offered to walk Rhea home.

"David…" said Alex, having the grace to look a little ashamed. She was now wishing she hadn't worn the heels for she very badly wanted to tap her feet on the ground and knew that if she did she would fall down.

"I was worried sick!" he said.

"Dude, is that your sister!" asked his friend incredulously.

"Shut up!" he said, glaring at his friend, "and boy are you hot!" he said turning back to Alex, "Hilly told me you looked different but I didn't expect this!" he said smiling at her, "You look so beautiful! Thank you Hilly!" he said turning to flash a smile at her. Hilly smiled back, unable to resist it. He pulled her into a hug after he had hugged Alex. A slight pink tinge came up on his cheeks and he let go of her.

"I'm sorry!" said Alex.

"You owe that to Pam!" he said, looking at her sternly.

"I am not going to-" started Alex angrily, stamping her feet, "You know what! We'll finish this little talk later. I have to go for practice!" she said coldly and threw her bag over her shoulder and stomped away. Hilly gave David an apologetic look before running after Alex. David looked after his sister exasperatedly.

"Who's that cute girl!" said his friend from beside him.

"That's my sister Mike!" said David, raising an eyebrow at his friend.

"I was talking about her friend," he said, suppressing a smile at David's expression.

"Who, Hilly?" asked David casually, leaning on his bike and folding his arms, "she's just… just my little sister's best friend!"

"Yea her…" said Mike, "she's pretty!"

"Yea she's… passable…" said David, moving over to sit on his bike, "Let's go if we want to catch that concert!" he said starting his bike.

"Dude, the concert's on Saturday and today is Thursday," he said calmly. David exhaled slowly and turned to his friend.

"Thanks for setting me right! C'mon!" he said sarcastically and started off.
