Drama: The Last Goodbye 💔

A farewell that lingers long after the words are said. Whether it’s the last goodbye to a person, a place, or an era in your life, your One-Shot should capture the emotional weight and the lasting impact of parting for the final time. The last moments, the unsaid words, and the bittersweet farewell ... bring those emotions to life in your 2000-word story.

Mystery & Thriller: The Hidden Door 🔎

An ordinary place hides an extraordinary secret. A seemingly insignificant door or passage could lead to something unexpected - danger, mystery, or a hidden world. The catch? What happens when it’s discovered? Your One-Shot should focus on the discovery of this hidden door and the mystery or thriller elements it triggers. Will your characters step through, or will they leave what’s behind locked away forever?

Comedy: The Accidental Hero 🤣

Not every hero wears a cape ... sometimes they’re just in the right (or wrong!) place at the right time. Your One-Shot should be a comedic tale about an ordinary person who becomes a hero by complete accident. Whether it’s a series of clumsy mishaps, a misunderstanding, or a hilarious series of events, your goal is to make us laugh as your protagonist stumbles into heroism.

Historical Fiction: The Lost Letter 📜

A letter from the past, long forgotten in time. What does it reveal? A love story hidden by history, a political secret lost during wartime, or a family mystery waiting to be unraveled? Your One-Shot should transport the reader back in time through the discovery of a long-lost letter, exploring the secrets it holds and how it changes everything for those who read it.

Horror: The Reflection in the Dark 👀

A simple glance at a mirror turns into something far more sinister. When the lights go out, does your reflection stay still, or does it move on its own? In your One-Shot, create a terrifying atmosphere where something creepy, unexpected, and downright horrifying happens. The mirror hides more than just your image...what does it really reflect, and what will happen when that secret is uncovered?

Science Fiction: The Quantum Stranger 🚀

A stranger appears from nowhere - literally. They claim to be from a future version of Earth, an alternate timeline, or even another dimension. Are they telling the truth, or is their story a glitch in the fabric of time and space? Your One-Shot should introduce a world where time travel, alternate realities, and futuristic technology collide in a story that pushes the boundaries of what’s real.

Mythology: The God’s Challenge ⚡

A mortal is chosen by the gods to complete an impossible task. Whether it’s a dangerous quest, a trial of strength, or a battle of wits, the mortal must prove their worthiness. Your One-Shot should explore the clash between the divine and the human, where mythological beings and legendary tasks take center stage. What happens when an ordinary person is thrust into the realm of gods?

2. Can I submit two entries for the same genre?

5. Can we create canon of actual mythology? Can we write drama based on mythology?

Yes, you can use actual mythological figures or concepts from established myths. However, the story needs to be original and should not directly copy or retell a myth word-for-word. You can write a drama based on mythology, but keep it fresh and unique in its interpretation. Just keep in mind no characters from book or a movie.

6. Can we include historical elements in mythology?

Absolutely! You can blend historical elements with mythology if it fits your story. For example, you could weave a historical event or setting into the narrative while incorporating mythological figures or themes. Just be sure that it still aligns with the mythology theme and genre.

7. For historical fiction, do you need to have historical characters, or is it just the historical setting?

The focus for historical fiction is on the setting and era rather than specific historical characters. You can create fictional characters within a real historical period, and the story can revolve around that time and its events. So, a historical setup is fine as long as the story feels grounded in that time period.

8. Can we write a story based on entirely original characters?

Yes, you can absolutely write a story based on entirely original characters. The contest encourages you to create your own unique characters. Do NOT select characters from books and movie though!
