It IS THAT GOOD...I cannot imagine how I put it off and I cannot imagine stopping. I have to do a re-read again because I have this urge to read Zephyr De La Vega (FMC of Book 4) again. Such a queen, such a different book than all the others and we love curvy FMCs anyway!

Syndicater be releasing some time this year and I am on my toes to get it!

The fact that all the other contemporary series are basically just standalones from Book 1 but THIS IS TOTALLY ANOTHER THING ALTOGETHER!

This is an actual series. Not standalones, can't be read as standalones.

Netflix series equivalent!

EVERYONE HERE ON THIS THREAD - I AM TRULY RECOMMENDING THIS.

Cross my heart on this one!

I finished the first two and am now reading the third. I'm just one the scene where Amara had witnessed the second killing and gosh on the edge of my seat of what's going to happen next. I can already feel something is about to happen.

Dark Verse series is going to be in my top 3 series that I am falling in love with. I loved these even more than Cat and Mouse duet 😂 I'm obsessed and started making my selection of bookmarks to match with each of the paperbacks 😂

Paperbacks of Dark verse are so expensive 😭

Around 700 for one book roughly.

Which second killing you talking about? The one where she sees Dante bury the body? Like when she's teenager?

THIS BOOK IS SO HEARTBREAKING GOD DAMN IT!

The end though? OH MY GOD. The revelation in this one makes me sick, SICK.

My heart goes out to Amara really, she's so strong and so so so messed up even without being truly connected to Dante in any way yk?

Whatever happened to her was wayyyy before Dante even felt anything for her.

When they're about to make love she goes ahead and says "Never take me from behind and don't call me a sl*t"

We never get to know what horrors she faced in detail but this one line had me breaking down SO BAD. Dante doesn't know and when he does it is so maddening for him.

It's really something- this series.

Screw it imma read The Emperor again!

The second killing where she was going to put the clothes on the 3rd floor and witnessed something got to do with a shipment and the captured guy being shot. She then yelped and ran away. I've just read the scenes of her being kidnapped and the torture she goes through! Gosh!
Not reached the scenes of them coming together yet. I've just reached the scene where Tristan is at the hotel spying on 13yr old Morana and attacking that pervert who kept eyeing her.

Paperbacks are ridiculously expensive sometimes! I hate it but I have an obsession with them especially if I loved the book or the cover is so freaking gorgeous that I must have it on my bookshelves. All 5 of them cost me £70 and I'm sure my bank account cried 😂

I do have the cat and mouse duet, mindf*ck series and a bunch of others I want but holding off because of this damn cost of living crisis.

My favourite moment is when she ran to hug him and he hugs her back. And offering her chocolate when she has a panic attack. He was just so sweet. A side I forgot he had until this re-read.

Audiobooks are my go to especially as I work full time then barely have time for myself other than doing chores around the house. They are my best friend when I am doing chores. 😂

I borrowed the kindle e-books on kindle unlimited then amazon offered the audiobooks at half the price so I bought them for £3.50 each and got all 5 for £17.50 saving me quite a bit of money. I had hoped they'll be on Scribd but they aren't.

However you can do a 30 day free trial with Scribd if you want to explore other books and they have a whole library of so many audiobooks with no limits unlike Audible. All of Tessa Bailey's books, I listened on there.

Audiobooks does take some time to get into but once you're hooked, you'll just wanna listen to the books. Audiobooks are only successful and really good if they have good narrators. Also, you'd need to speed it up. I listen to it on 1.7x because I feel at 1x speed is too slow for me.

I did read book 1 to 3 of the Royal Elite as it was about one couple and I did enjoy them. It was a 3.5 - 4* for me. Her books are generally quite good and really popular. It was engaging and she could write a damn good story. There was so much to unravel with this one. Those were my first books of hers. I hadn't continued the series as I mentioned once before, I do take breaks between the couples 😂

One of my favourite scenes.

“When I grow up, I’m going to marry you.”
“You can’t marry me.”
Her face contorts. “Why not?”
“Mum says you have to love someone to marry them.”
“Then you can just love me.” She throws her hand in the air. “What’s so hard about that?”

Be warned, there are graphic SA to the FMC but the way she gets revenge is *chefs kiss*

This book broke my heart and repaired altogether as it ended. I've read this series maybe 3-4 times by now and she'd become a favourite author. What was disheartening to learn that the author had passed away in a car accident in 2021. Her sister's now working on getting an audiobook for this series so I am eagerly waiting for those.

RK does have a lot of series. I just started off with the trope I enjoyed at the time which was enemies to lovers, bully romance.

Finally finished this one and gosh I am certainly going to have a hangover. I have been through an emotional rollercoaster, I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything and calm down my heart rate at this point.

HFN – but there’s mystery and plot holes that require closure.

Continues in the next books.

Spice level: 4.5/5

Genre: Mafia romance

POV: Third person

Oh, where do I even start with this one.

This was such an addictive read. I rushed through things so I could get back to sitting down and reading this one. This book shattered my heart and I felt for Amara and Dante so much. I loved this forbidden love story.

“We may not be husband and wife to the world but I have been married to you in my heart for eight years.”

I had already really liked Amara and Dante from the previous two, but these two consumed me and my heart. I just couldn’t stop reading or thinking about them.

I tend to avoid second couples in the series and would pick them at a later date, I regret doing that with this one because this series just gets better and better.

I couldn’t understand how everything happened with Amara being banned but as I read and everything unravelled, I was just captivated by it all and saddened at the hidden love story that Dante and Amara had.

Amara and Dante’s love story was about forbidden love, tragic, sweet and oh so filled with love. They were strong, determined and willing to fight for each other, even if it meant hurting themselves in the process.

“He and I, we are doomed to bleed from a wound that will never heal.”

The story started off with the past, Amara living with her mother and becoming friends with Vinnie and crushing on Dante from afar. I loved her thoughts and her story. She witnessed things she shouldn’t have. The first-time witnessing Dante burying a girl whom he’d kissed. I freaking hated Lorenzo for doing this to Dante. And the second time she’d witnessed something she shouldn’t have and even though she didn’t understand, she’d been kidnapped and tortured for 3 days. What she had been put through, these parts were difficult to read because she was a minor. 15 years old!

She’s found by Tristan and gosh I fell in love with Tristan all over again. The blooming of a friendship between them even though he didn’t talk much.

Despite everything she’d been through, Amara survived and came out of this fighting. She’s a warrior. A Queen! Amara was broken, sweet, passionate, determined, she was everything rolled up into one. There were so many layers to her, and I loved every single moment with her. All she wanted was Dante’s love, her mother by her side and friendship.

She’d suffered tremendously throughout but she was so damn strong! She never let her past dictate her future, she never let it tear her apart and consume her.

Dante was by her side. He was there for her and helping with her healing process. Carrying her out and spending time with her. He helped with her healing. Dante was so in love with her even though he didn’t say it or show it. But his actions for her was enough. While he’d been feared and scary for the world, he wore his emotions on his sleeve for Amara. He was soft for her. He was devoted to her. He was so understanding and gentle with her. He was damn protective of her.

“You’re not going to walk through life, Amara,” he uttered roughly, each word a vow that cemented itself in her heart. “You’ll dance through it. And I’ll fcking remove anyone who tries to break your rhythm. I promise you.”

And their love story started a couple of years down the line as she’d healed from her scars and her voice healed though her pitch was never the same.

The times in the bedroom where he’d make his sculptures and the way they’d listen to audiobooks and spend time together. Putting heels on her when she couldn’t wear them after her traumatic experience, and him holding onto her and dancing the night away with her. Those scenes were just top notch and Dante just had my heart.

“We're not a love story. We're a tragedy in the making.”

I wish I could’ve dug up Lorenzo from the grave and unalive him 10x more. He’d intervened and separated them.

But… Dante wasn’t giving up Amara without a fight. That man was not giving up. He played the game. He knew she was lonely through the exile and he’d gifted her a cat without letting her know. Amara had a friend with her when he couldn’t be there for her. And Lulu was a perfect companion. Helping her with her anxiety and panic attacks. He just knew how much it would affect her and as always, he was there even if not physically.

“One day, I’m going to put my ring on that finger, Amara,” he grit out, pushing up another inch into her. “One day, I’m going to put my babies inside you. Just wait for me, baby. Please wait for me.”

Soon, they were loving each other from afar and stealing moments here and there to be together for a few precious moments. It was having a toll on Amara and gosh seeing her heart being chipped away each time he left. It hurt.

Through all this, he promised and worked on fulfilling his promise to her. Gosh Dante fought hard for them. He made promises and she’d believed and held on.

Amara was an absolute Queen. She was perfect for the King.

She probably didn’t realize he had matched the structure of his back dragon tattoo to match her back scars, from one hip to one shoulder. If anyone looked at their naked backs together, they would see symmetry—a dragon breathing fire across her back in mirrored structure, side by side.

They were intense, passionate and gosh whenever they were together, I’m sure my paperback was sparking. Their chemistry was *fire*

And their wedding and their baby girl. Gosh reading about their perfect little family was just fantastic. Despite the painful and heartbreaking journey they had endured and lived through, they've found their way back to each other. Ruling their kingdom as King and Queen.

“In sickness in health, in life in death, in murder in mayhem, isn’t that how it goes?”

And I lived for the scenes of Tristan and Morana. They are my favourite and I loved their scenes. Tristan and Morana’s relationship developing and Morana looking at honeymoon resorts for when they find the answers to Luna’s disappearance. I really really hope the answers are found soon because I need to witness their wedding! Tristan and Morana taking in Xander and the relationship that was forming between them. Gosh, I wished we got another book on Tristan and Morana because I want more scenes of the trio together. Tristan is opening up more and he’s giving freaking relationship advice to Dante! Him. The one who doesn’t talk at all is now giving relationship advice.

And Morana remains the sexy, brilliant nerd. I love that woman so much. She’s already teaching Xander code and they’ve made a little family.

As I delved into this book, more and more mysteries came up and I am so looking forward to Alessandro Villanova’s story.

“You’re the beat to my heart, Amara”

I LIVE FOR TRISTAN AND MORANA TOO!!!! 😭

Cannot wait for you to read Book 4 because I just did a re-read and BOYYYYY do I love Zephyr De La Vega & Alpha MF-ing Villanova SO BEYOND!

There is this ONE SCENE in particular which gave me heart palpitations ALL ALONG.

The revelation in the end of The Emperor must have made you sick, not to mention the reality of the death of Dante's mother. His connection to Alpha came as a surprise but then again all the characters are in some way connected to the main Luna Caine plot and that is why it is mind-blowing. Everyone's involvement is present and important, nothing over the top at all.

When he gets to know what Amara endured something shifts in him, the scene where they loose one child had my heart breaking for Amara. She was taken at the same place, can't even imagine the horror.

The only thing I felt over the top was the sister angle. That felt unnecessary to me, I mean yes ofc everyone knew she was a culprit but the whole shooting thing was something I could have lived without for sure!

The Finisher (Dark Verse, #4) by RuNyx | Goodreads

Rating: 4.5 stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Writing: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hero: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Heroine: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

HFN

Spice level: 4.5/5

Genre: Mafia romance

Trope: Grumpy x sunshine, marriage of convenience, slow burn and maybe second chance

Possible Triggers: SA, violence against women, murder, mention of human/child trafficking, PTSD, amnesia, arson, mention of illegal dog fights and underground fighting rings.

POV: Third person

I started off with audio with this one thinking it will be as fantastic as the other narrations, but I think the narration for this one wasn’t as great as the others especially when it came to the speeches between characters. So, I had to shelve the audiobook and switch to my paperback and gosh I loved it.

Alpha and Zephyr’s story was something else. For me, it was the sort of beauty and the beast trope and I am a total sucker for beauty and the beast tropes.

She hadn’t been married to him one day and she was causing him heart problems already.

Zephyr was a breath of fresh air and I absolutely loved the interactions she’d had with Alpha. From her jumping into his arms after the fight and kissing him then pursuing him to agreeing to marrying her.

Zephyr was strong and persistent. Alpha seemed to have forgotten her and she’d promised herself to try and make him remember and fall in love with her again.

Alpha’s story was heart breaking. Losing his mother and everything after that… I really did feel for him especially when he had to be wary of Zephyr and withdrew from having any intimacy because he’d been worried that he would hurt her.

“You talk to my wife, you die,” he announced coldly. Dante whistled in the distance, and Zephyr flushed. That was the most 'Me Tarzan, You Jane' thing she'd ever seen in her life. She was as taken as she could get.”

This story reveals another layer to the syndicate and goes a little deeper into the operations. It had me on edge as I read page after page. I was stunned into silence as everything unravelled at the end and my eyes widened for a moment. I re-read those pages again questioning whether I had read that. I wasn’t dreaming.

The friendship and sisterly bond between Zen and Zephyr was so precious. I really enjoyed their interactions, and it was relatable in some parts because their bond is one I similarly shared with my own sisters. I was NOT happy at all with what happened!

The end to this book was satisfactory but I wanted the HEA and an epilogue as we had gotten in the previous books.

The addition of Dante, Amara and Tempest was oh so adorable. Dante, the Emperor was so in love with his wife and daughter. He was a sucker for them and he was still a alpha and ruthless, protective killer. I loved that.

“Dante took the baby from the woman, cradled her against his broad chest, uncaring for the drool he got on his suit, cooing to her. “You missed Daddy, didn’t you, princess?” Then the fluffiest cat she'd seen walked out and rubbed against Dante's legs, getting fur over his pants.

Zephyr’s ovaries melted. What was it about a big man with babies and kittens?”

I loved loved the scenes of Tristan, Morana and Xander. And OMG, Xander. I’m already reading the Annihilator and my heart is in my throat as I came to know about Xander. I need, need the 6th and final book out like very very soon!!

"Lulu is adorable,” Morana gushed. “I’ve been trying to convince Tristan to get a cat.”

“And failing,” Amara laughed.

"Is he yours?” Zephyr asked.

Morana looked too young to be a mother to a child his age. "No, but we might adopt him soon."

In a way I am so glad I did not continue reading the series back in 2021 after the Reaper because I don't think I would have been able to wait, I also learned this book's dates were pushed 6 times. I would have been frustrated and driven up the wall if I had read it then and had to wait years for the books 😂

One thing I did have an issue with is the lack of dialogues. I know with third person pov, there is a slightly more storytelling and what is one doing, or whatever, but I wanted much more dialogues.
