1. OneLook dictionary: I think this is a fascinating tool for any writer. It is not an ordinary dictionary. You can search words from a variety of ways. Writings struggling with proper words may find it come useful. For instance:
bluebird | Find definitions of bluebird |
blue* | Find words and phrases that start with blue |
*bird | Find words and phrases that end with bird |
bl????rd | Find words that start with bl, end with rd, and have 4 letters in between |
bl*:snow | Find words that start with bl and have a meaning related to snow |
*:snow or :snow | Find any words related to snow |
*:winter sport | Find words related to the concept winter sport |
**winter** | Find phrases that contain the word winter |
expand:nasa | Find phrases that spell out n.a.s.a. |
2. Visuwords: It shows the relationship between one words and another. It is just fascinating. I cannot copy/paste things from there to here to show members, but I recommend everyone to go there and have a look at the site.
3. Write Rhymes: Designed for the want-to-be-a-poet-but-don't-have-suitable-vocabulary-for-it members. Type a word, and find a suitable rhyme for it.
4. Verbix: Deals, with people who have got problems with verbs and tenses...
5. Word Counter: Afraid you are being repititious and monotonous? Use this to find out which word you have over-used, and which you have not.
