Chapter 2
After school Nadia went to the room where all the kids were for detention. It was a small room with book shelves lined on both sides of the walls. There were 2 rows with 3 tables in each row. Nadia went all the way to the back without loking to see who all was in there. She sat her bag down next to her table and waited with her head in her arms on the table. A few minutes later a tall skinny teacher with a huge head walked in. "The rules are no talking..ok. Or getting up. Yeah.." Then he left. The minutes seemed to pass forever as they always did when waiting. In front, there was a guy sitting there messing with his pencil. His sleeves were rolled up and he had crazy wild hair. He also had a scar on his left arm. She had never noticed him before but he looked like one of those kids who had been at the school for a long time. Haha, detention. So this is what detention looks and feels like.. This is stupid. If teachers and parents think that kids sitting around for a few hours is gonna stop them from doing bad things again they're crazy.
At the other table, the guy was still messing around with everything on his desk. He was playing with a pencil, and earaser, and a tooth pick. Like he was just bored out of his mind. Nadia took out a stick of gum from her pocket and put it in her mouth. She looked out the window to her left. All she could see was some trees and grass from where she was sitting. The her thoughts turned to this guy. This guy who seemed to want to desperately be out of this detention. She thought he must look kinda hot with his crazy hair😳😆 She didn't get a good look at him from when she first walked in. His head was down then. It still was. Nadia wondered why he kept his head down too. Then the guy sat back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling. Probably exhausted from all the noise he was making😆, Nadia thought. Then he sighed again. And picked up his pencil and held i up to his face and stared at it. Nadia looked at him; her eyes filled with curiosity. Then she loked over to the clock. It read 4:03pm. Only and hour had passed by and the stil had 2 1/2 hours left. Then, as if he had regained his energy, the guy sighed real quick and continued fidgeting with his things again. Nadia sat back in her chair and blew a bubble. It popped😆 Then she asked while chewing, "so what's your name?" Nadia asked him. He hesitated and then said, "Jo".
"Jo😲 Your parents wouldn't think of a better name?" Nadia teased. But she was only half joking. He didn't reply. He just kept playing with his stupid pencil as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. "I mean it's so plain" Nadia contined. "Think of something cool and diffrent people will remember. Like.. Sparky." She could sense Jo rolled his eyes.
She was starting to get more comfortable here. At first when she came she was scared and anxious; now she didn't care. She just wanted this to be over with. But at the same time she wanted to hear more about Jo. She wanted to see his face and to hear more of his voice. "I think we have an emergency.." She said. Jo stopped fidgeting with his pencil. "So are you listening? So are you watchin' mehhh" There was a short silence. Nadia kept going. "If you thought I'd breathe then you were wrong cause I won't stop holding on." Another pause... "And I can'tttttt pretend that I don't see this. It's really not your fault.. And no one cares to talk about it. To talk about it. There was a short silence. Nadia kept going. "If you thought I'd breathe then you were wrong cause I won't stop holding on." "Are you okay??" Jo asked; still not turning his head to look at her.
"Cause I've seen love dieeeeee WAY too many times when it desereved to be aliveeeeee." She sang. "ENOUGH😡"
"But am singing."
"No. Just be quiet." he said.
"You brought a sandwich?" Jo asked a while later. He had a look of disbelief on his cute little face😆 Nadia was happy that he finally turned around to look at her. He must think she was reallyyyy weird by now. Singing songs and eating food... All she cared was that she finally got to see his face for the first time. And she was right he was a little cute😳 And his eyes... "No. It's from lunch.. I didn't eat it." "Why?" he asked. Nadia took a bite into her sandwish. It was a little soggy from this morning but still good. It's no good to waste food you know😆 "Cause I've seen you cry.. way too many times when you deserved to be alive.." she whispered. "STOP IT. Thank you.. geez." Nadia almost laughs at this. He gets so angry so fast. She couldn't help smile at it. "What a stupid song anyway.." he says to himslef.
So Nadia and Jo talked a while more. They get to know a little more about each other but still with the awkwardness. Nadia talks about wanting to escape from detention but Jo is skeptical. Nadia packs up her things and puts them in her bag. At first she just stares at it. Slowly.. she walkes toward the window, the whole time Jo watching her carefully. Nadia opened the window and threw her bag down. She was still very scared about doing this. She wasn't exactly sure if she should. The teacher could pop in any second now and she would get in huge trouble. But then again, she already threw her bag down so there was probably no turning back.....
"Ohhh.. um maybe you shouldn't go you're gonna get in trouble" Jo said. He too was scared for her. But Nadia (hands still trembling), jumps out of the window onto the soft grass outside. She calls Jo telling him to come with her.
"Ugh come ON Jo" "Fine." Jo got his pencil, his eraser and his tooth pick and jumped out the window to Nadia. They start running when Nadia stops and says, "wait I forgot my sandwich
"😡We can't go back he's probably already looking us."
"I know but.. I am so hungryðŸ˜"
"NO Nadia we have to GO." he tells
"Ok now what.."
"You just moved here right? "Yah" says Nadia looking back at the school one more time. "And what time do you have to be back home?"
"Umm.. I think maybe 8 or 9. My mom isn't gonna be back till later." she tells him; wondering what he's talking about.... "Come on. I'll show you around."
Nadia smiles a little at him and they both go down the hill into the city filled with little shops and book stores that are jus waiting to be discoverd.......
edit* I also wanted to wish my very good friend Sarah a veryyyy veryyy happy birthday🤗 I hope you had an awesome birthday di🤗
