TV star Manav Gohil and his wife Shweta Kawatra are very upset at being called cheats for distributing free SIM cards to vote for them on Star One's Nach Baliye. Speaking on behalf of both, Manav says, "My wife and I've gone through a lot in the past few days. Our answers were manipulated. When we were asked if we distributed SIM cards on the streets we denied it. That answer was manipulated to mean that we entirely denied buying SIM cards."
Manav continues, "Of course we bought 200 SIM cards for family and friends. They've clearly been told, bees ke baad vote mat karna. Our choreographer's family lives in Thane and they too want to vote for us. What's wrong with facilitating their desire to support us? If our friends are given SIM cards so that they don't spend their own money, no harm in that. It's neither immoral nor illegal. And I'm not antivoting anyone."
Manav says his family and his wife have undergone immense agony because of the accusations. "Shweta and I are extremely indignant. And we're hellbent on fighting for our honour. We give a 110 per cent of ourselves to Nach Baliye. My wife has a broken rib and a bad back. She's in acute pain and yet she does her best. Plus she's petrified of dancing. After this, if we're called cheats, we have a right to be very upset."
He reiterates, "We did buy SIM cards for friends. I'd buy a SIM even for my father, if he'd allowed me to."
He ends, "It was reported that I was interrogated by cops for three hours. I've never been interrogated by cops in my life. The only time they came to our door was to get Diwali bakshish."
