Sorry Guys and Girls Too, was off for more than a week. So no clue what happened over the last week.
I had been for Annual Evaluation of HIV/AIDS project run by various NGOs here. And I had interacted with more than a thousand people during the interaction who are FSWs (Female Sex Workers), IDUs (Injecting Drug Users), MSM (Men having sex with Men) as they are the High Risk Groups (HRG) for spreading HIV/AIDS.
As a part of evaluation we use different tools to interact with these people and to make them comfortable we chat on a number of issues ranging from film, religion, puranic tales etc. so that they take part in the discussion freely.
This time I decided to use TV watching habits as the starting point. and out of curiosity I asked them about Uttaran and other serials (though it was a free for all, my focus was Uttaran). I asked them do they like the serial, all most all of them said yes. and I asked them how many of you like Ichha, there were lots of hands raised. similarly there were lots of hands raised in favour of Vansh, Jogi, Veer. But when I asked how many of you like Tapasya, NOT A SINGLE HAND...I REPEAT NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS RAISED. When I asked them why, Tapasay is so beautiful they said, her acts are simply criminal, plain and simple.
The reason why I was baffled is that most of these HRGs are from criminal and immoral background. I thought they might have a learning towards such immoral acts. But it seems even people doing immoral (not necessary wrong) also detaste and abhor Tappuism.
This led me to believe, perhaps it needs a high level of intelligence, English-speaking ability, highly rational mind to explore the meaning of love, child psychology, meaning of marriage and symbolism associated with marriage (like sindoor, mangalsutra), rationalization of of criminal activity.....
But at the end of the day I learnt the precious motto, "Vox Populi, Vox God"...meaning Voice of People is Voice of God. I know clearly what the heart of India thinks about my poor Baby............It does not matter what people here or CVs want to portray Tappu as.......the verdict is out in the streets......
