It was very emotional, but it's good that Sukor opened up, especially Suraj.

I expected Chakor to be angry at Suraj's advances but didn't expect everything to be out in the open so quickly.

I don't think Chakor is impulsive, she's hurt, she's put up with a lot in those 3 years. I'm sure she'll give Suraj a chance once he starts to change.

I feel sad for Suraj but he deserves it, he needs to earn Chakor's trust.

Can't wait for the next part.

PART 10

This night felt like a dream; the first half was so exquisitely crafted and the second half felt like a one-way ticket to heart-break city. Chakor didn't expect any changes in Suraj when she instigated the divorce but he showed interest on her when she least expected it. The thoughts about his relationship with Imli bothered her too much these three years but now that he has confessed the truth, it broke her heart even more and bogged her down. He played with her emotions and that is something she could never tolerate. Chakor may seem like an iron-willed lady but deep inside, she is fragile. She is clueless about what she needs to do next as she walked down the busy streets, having nowhere to go. She didn't want to go back to their house tonight. She wanted to have some time-out away from Suraj. She needed some time to think and she went to the second best place where she could get some peace: Gauri's house.

Suraj froze on the beds of the lawn at the reception venue, unable to mentally grasp what just happened. He has never been as blue as he is now ever in his whole life. He was clearly perturbed by Chakor's capricious behaviour but he blamed himself for it. Chakor has always been a blessing in disguise for him whom he seldom appreciated. Moments ago, when she showed him her back and walked away, his world fell apart. The fact that Chakor might really hate him now made him suffocate like a fish out of water. I should have taken it slow; I should have given her a chance to get to know me: I screwed up! I am not evil, Chakor; I just made bad choices, his thoughts were haunting him. He regretted for the times he left unspent with her. He knew the best he could do now is give her some time to cool down before he appears in front of her. He wasn't ready to give up; she is not an ordinary woman he met along the way, she is Chakor Suraj Rajvanshi, the woman who made him go weak at the knees in only two days. I wouldn't waste these six months I have with you, Chakor. I will make it up for what I took away from you, not as your husband but simply as a friend. I don't understand what I am feeling for you right now but this feelings is new and I wish to explore that with you. No matter how many times you push me away, I will come back to you; I will be your 'boomerang', he vowed to himself.

Expecting Chakor to be home, Suraj drove in full speed to reach her. On the way, he was looking left and right at the edges of the road to see if she was anywhere visible but she was nowhere to be found. So, he continued to drive till he reached home. To his consternation, she was not there too. Suraj panicked at the thought of anything bad happening to Chakor. He could never forgive himself if she is harmed. He took his phone and called her multiple times but there wasn't any answer. The next call he made was to his mother.

Suraj : Mummy...

Tejaswini : Yes, Beta. You're calling so late. Are you okay?

Suraj : Mummy, is Chakor there?

Tejaswini : Chakor? No, Beta. Why? What happen?

Suraj : I will talk to you about that some other day, Mummy. Did she call you? (His concern was clearly audible to Tejaswini)

Tejaswini : (Noticing the apprehension in Suraj's voice, she gets worried too) Why are you very anxious, Beta? She called me in the morning about signing the divorce papers. I asked how she is and she said she is okay, Beta. What happen? Is Chakor alright? I know you both wanted this divorce but you can't simply lose her like this! If you cannot take care of Chakor, please drop her at haveli. Papa and I are here for her. (Tejaswini said angrily)

Suraj : Oh, Mummy, seriously?! Please don't say that! Chakor will be fine. I will look for her.

Tejaswini : Why don't you call her?

Suraj : I did but she didn't pick up my call. I will talk to you later, Mummy. I need to look for her. If she calls you, ask her where she is and tell her to please call me back. Bye, Mummy.

He hung up. Tejaswini sat at the corner of her bed, weeping. Kamal Narayan come into the room and seeing his spouse in tears, he questioned her and Tejaswini told him what just took place. Without a second thought, Kamal Narayan dialed Chakor's mobile number from the landline.

"Chakor?! What are you doing here at this hour? Why are your eyes swollen?! Please come in!" Gauri freaked when she saw Chakor at her doorsteps at half past 11pm. Chakor stepped in and hugged Gauri. She needed someone to talk to, to share her pain. Empathetic about what Chakor might have gone through, Gauri directed her to her bedroom, without asking any further question.

Closing the room door, Chakor faintly removed her clothes and stepped into the shower. The continuous flow of cold water hit the core of her skull. The chill droplets formed shivers all over her body as she turned the hot water on. The hot water stream rammed into her skin, releasing all the tension. She stood there without moving, Suraj's voice banging in her head. "Suraj, she murmured. Lost in thoughts about her encounters with him earlier, she turned the water off, dabbed herself dry, clad in a pajama given by Gauri and walked into the living room. She sat on the sofa, frozen for a few minutes before the sound of her phone ringing awakened her. The caller ID showed Suraj' and she disregarded the call. There were already 24 missed calls from Suraj so far, none she attended. She had no energy to speak to him again, at least for tonight.

"Hey, you're out so fast! I have prepared some hot chocolate and cookies for you, have some," Gauri placed the drinks and a bowl full of cookies on the nearby coffee table. "Don't worry, its vegan. Please eat," she compelled. Noticing Chakor wasn't looking at her, Gauri placed her hand on Chakor's shoulder and wobbled it. Taken aback, Chakor indistinctly smiled at Gauri. "What happen, Chakor? Why do you look as if an asteroid is about to hit the Earth in the next 10 minutes?" Chakor chuckled almost spitting out the hot chocolate she was sipping. "Seriously, Gauri? Why are you making fun of me?" she sulked. Gauri got herself close to Chakor and hugged her tight. "You see, Chakor, I know you in and out. You wouldn't be upset without a reason but your face right now looks like you are confused of why you are upset. Mind telling me what happened? Your date with Suraj got screwed up by Imli or he screwed it up himself?" Gauri devotedly asked. Gauri has never failed to cheer her during her gloomy days and that is what exactly she is doing right now. Before she could continue her phone rang again; this time the call came from haveli and Chakor picked it up.

Chakor : Hello...

Kamal : Hello, my love. How are you?

Chakor : (She cleared her throat before continuing) Hi, Pa. I am fine. How are you and Ma?

Kamal : We both are fine. Where are you? Are you at home, my love?

Chakor : Ermm, no, Pa. I am actually at Gauri's house. Why, Pa, is everything okay?

Kamal : Not really, my love, everything is not okay since you and Suraj decided to get divorced but we will move on, one step at a time. Anyways, I didn't call to talk about the divorce, my love. Suraj is worried about you. He called Ma to ask about you because he said you are not answering his calls. You both are the apple of my eyes, my love, and you know that. Can you tell me something, honestly?

Chakor : Yes, Pa. Anything.

Kamal : Is Suraj harming you, my love? I mean is he hurting you physically or giving you mental tortures? Is he forcing you to do anything that you dislike? I know my son is a little ruffian but if he is misbehaving with you, I will never tolerate it. So, tell me, my love.

Chakor : (Shocked to hear Kamal Narayan's thoughts about Suraj) Pa, how could you say such things about Suraj? He has never done anything to harm me physically nor mentally. He is immature, that's it but calling him a ruffian is just too much, Pa.

Kamal : I know, my love, but I just had to ask. You don't have to hide anything from us. Are you sure everything is okay?

Chakor : 100% positive, Pa. Please don't worry.

Tejaswini snatched the receiver from Kamal Narayan's hands so that she could speak to Chakor. Kamal Narayan moved back knowing the importance of mother-daughter conversation.

Tejaswini : Beta, are you okay?

Chakor : Haa, Ma, I am absolutely fine.

Tejaswini : Listen, Beta, if you are not comfortable to live with Suraj, you can always come back to haveli. You still have your room here and you know we love to have you around. Don't ever think you are alone. You are still our pyaari beti', just don't ever forget that.

Tejaswini's words triggered the soft spot in Chakor's heart. Her eyes welled up.

Chakor : I know you and Pa will always support me, Ma but I need some time alone, to reassess my life and the choices I have made. I will not run away from this city, Ma. I just want to spend this weekend with Gauri. That's all.

Tejaswini : Okay, Beta. Please call Suraj and tell him where you are. He was totally lost when he called me just now. Are you okay with talking to him or you want me to call and inform him, Beta?

Chakor : (Paused a little to think what to do) No, Ma. I will call to tell him where I am. I can handle this. Ma and Pa don't worry too much about us. It's already very late at night. You both better sleep.

Tejaswini : Okay, Beta. Take care of yourself. Good night.

Chakor : Good night, Ma. Please tell Pa good night too. (Kamal Narayan's voice was heard from the background, wishing Chakor good night).

They both hung up the call. Gauri looked at Chakor in awe. "Did you just run away from Suraj?" she questioned, her eyes wide open, being judgmental. Chakor rolled her eyes and placed her left hand on her forehead, her elbow rested on her left thigh. "Tell me, Chakor, did you just abandon him in the middle of a date? What did he do? Don't tell him 'the all egocentric' Suraj Rajvanshi kissed you all of the sudden?" Gauri finished her sentences with a thunderous laugh, she thinks she was joking, little does she know the truth.

Before Chakor could say something, her phone rang once more, this time, the call was from Suraj again. Gauri slanted her head to see the caller ID, "Talk talk, your date is calling," she giggled. Chakor picked up the call and she was all ready to scold Suraj for calling her multiple times, but his voice molten her heart.

Suraj : Chakor... Thank God you answered! Where are you? Are you safe?

Chakor : Emm...

Suraj : Just emm? Are you safe, Chakor? You are frightening me.

Chakor : I told you to leave me alone, didn't I?

Suraj : I know but you should have told where you're going. This city is not safe.

Chakor : I know how to take care of myself, Suraj. I was doing fine all these while without you. So, please don't act like you suddenly care.

Gauri was trying to eavesdrop to get the gist of the whole situation. Chakor was happy when Suraj asked her out but she came back almost looking like a zombie. She wanted to know what actually happened so that she could help her friend get over it. Chakor was clearly upset when talking to Suraj, and that alarmed her. What did you do to Chakor, Suraj Rajvanshi? she mumbled.

Suraj : Okay okay... (He tried not to argue with her) Where are you? I just want to know. I will not disturb you after that.

Chakor : I'm at Gauri's.

Suraj : Gauri? You mean the Gauri from our office that you always hang out with?

Chakor : (Puzzled that he actually know who she hangs out with) Yes, that Gauri.

Suraj : Okay, Chakor. How long will you be there?

Chakor : As long as I like.

Suraj : But... but you'll come back to our house, right? (He was expectant; he was hoping to get a YES')

Chakor : No.

Suraj : No? (His voice sulked) Chakor, please... Come home... Let me show you how sorry I am... I can't keep myself away from you...

Chakor : (Not interested to listen to his pleadings) I have made up my mind, Suraj. This weekend I will be here. Monday we both need to go to the Family Court to give our statements. See you there and please don't create a scene.

Suraj : Chakor... Hellooo... Hellooo... (She has hung up the call)

Chakor placed her phone on the coffee table and noticed Gauri glaring at her. "What is it, Gauri?" she asked. "YOU need to tell me that, Chakor. You came to my house, almost at midnight, looking all worn out. My sixth sense is telling that Suraj did something to you but I have not seen you reacting like this ever. So, what actually happened, Chakor? Did he force himself into you?" Gauri's clown face turned serious as she wanted to comfort her friend. Chakor clutched her palms, squeezing it, looking fairly nervous, content and upset, all at once. After a few seconds, she opened up, smile visible at the edge of her lips. "It was a lovely night, Gauri. He gave me this beautiful dress and we went out for the first time as a couple. I could hear my heart pounding very fast every time he got close to me," Chakor grinned explaining what the night felt like. Gauri could see the solace in her eyes and that made her happy. "We posed for couples' pictures, danced in our favourite tune, kissed and hugged each other..." by the time she said this, Gauri almost had her jaws dropped. "Wait wait wait, you kissed?!" her eyes widened, expecting an answer from Chakor. "Did he force you?" she was curiously clutching her knuckles. Chakor looked into Gauri's eyes sternly, "No, Gauri, he didn't force me. It just happened." "Are you upset because it happened? You ran away from him because he kissed you?!" Gauri tried to cognize what in fact happened. "No, I didn't leave because of the kiss. It's what happened after the kiss led me here," she responded, clarifying the whole thing about Suraj's plan and Imli's part in it, also his wish to give a chance to their marriage.

Instead of being upset by it, Gauri actually was pleased to know Suraj faked the whole relationship thing with Imli. Chakor was clearly unclear about her reaction. "Gauri, I just told you that he cheated everyone and played with my feelings but you react as if you are very happy about it?" she snapped. "Ufff!! Chakor! You thought me to see everything in a positive angle, have you forgotten that?! Yes, he lied to you but he had his reasons, right? He didn't really betray you with Imli. NOW, he wants you in his life. Aren't you happy about that? You wanted this, remember?" she tried to clarify the whole situation to Chakor. "No, Gauri, I never wanted this, like this. He didn't respect my feelings; he wanted to get rid of me from his life and made me look all guilty in front his parents. How can I ever trust a man who played with my emotions, Gauri?" she retorted. "OK, baba, I get it, you are hurt, he is wrong to have lied and cheated you and his parents but don't you think he deserves a chance? He is just asking you the next six months of your life. You can still proceed with the divorce if you don't want him. What's wrong in trying?" Gauri advised.

Chakor who has always been the sensible one couldn't make up her mind about this whole Suraj situation. Gauri's words sounded wrong and right, both at the same time. "Look, Chakor, I am not asking you to forgive him ASAP and live happily ever after. In life, opportunities like this will only come once or twice. If love knocks your door, why not explore it before it fades?" she hugged Chakor to reassure her that everything is going to be alright.

The next two days went well for Chakor as she spent the weekend shopping and food hunting with Gauri. Thoughts about Suraj 'hijacked' her concentration almost every minute; "Argghhh!!! This guy is making me crazy for him!" she let out a quick scream and that's when she decided to put an end to all of it.

Suraj was optimistic about Chakor being back to their house on Monday after their session at the Family Court. So, he spent the weekend transforming the common areas in their house to cater her interest and Ranvijay decided to lend a helping hand. Unaware of Ranvijay's intention to intensify the gap between him and his wife, Suraj opened up about his feelings for Chakor, unknowingly infuriating Ranvijay and Imli. I will not let Chakor be yours, Suraj. I didn't plan this just to see her in your arms. She will be mine and Imli will end up as yours, that I promise, Ranvijay contemplated.
