Wahahaha. š My holidays are on! š
(During Vivaan's last year of college)
Vivaan was happily curled up into a ball, uncaring that it was past 11 a.m. Ragini had come once, twice, to wake him up, before finally giving up.
"Aap ka kuch nahi ho sakta," she had muttered on her way out, and Vivaan half thought she was going to call Suraj. But then again, it was a weekday so he was at work, coming back at 1 for lunch probably. He could surely get ready by then. Right now, he would enjoy his holiday life.
He finally got up an hour later, stretching and yawning and detaching himself from the bed with great difficulty, and was ready by a quarter to 1, just in time for Suraj to arrive. Ragini made a face at him, and he made one back. She was going to complain anyway, he knew.
His phone buzzed, and he went aside to pick up the call. Suraj arrived just then, discarding his coat as he went to wash his hands.
"Nahiii!" Vivaan screamed as he ran into the dining hall, much like those women in Indian soaps. "Nahi, yeh nahi ho sakta! Keh do ki yeh jhoot hai!" Ragini imitated an old woman's voice, mocking Vivaan.
"Ragini tum...!" And Vivaan charged at her.
"Bhaiya dekho!" Ragini screamed, running away. Vivaan stood rooted to his spot after hearing Bhaiya. He turned and saw Suraj sitting at the table, his head in his hands at the commotion they were creating.
Almost immediately, he ran to Suraj's side.
"BHAIYA!" he shouted as he flung himself on Suraj, wailing, only to be swatted away by him. "Ab kya hua?" He asked. 'I deserve some peace in my house at least,' Suraj thought, irate.
"Woh, woh... BHAIYA!" Vivaan wailed again, his cries louder this time around.
Snap.
"Vivaan." Suraj growled out. "I don't care if you're panicking, do it in SILENCE!" he roared, sitting back down for lunch.
Vivaan sobbed for a while, before looking at Suraj again. "Bhaiya, yahan se kahi door chale jaate hai," he said softly, and Suraj raised an eyebrow at him, while Girja served him lunch. "Aisa kya kaam kar diya hai tumne?" He asked finally.
"Bhai ka result aaya hai," Ragini announced as Vivaan paled. "My friend texted me just now. Isliye pata chala,"
"Oh?" Suraj looked at Vivaan, who looked ready to bolt to the Himalayas.
He looked hopefully at Suraj. "Bhaiya, please bhaag jaate hai yahan se! Agar Maa ko pata chala ki mere marks kam aaye hai, toh mujhe ghar se nikaal degi!"
"Maa ki chintha kyun karta hai? Main hoon na," Suraj smiled sweetly at him, and Vivaan's hopes flew high for a microsecond before Suraj's expression changed into a menacing one.
"Agar tumhara result bura aaya hai, toh ghar se kya, MAIN tujhe country se export kar dunga!" He shouted, and even Ragini felt chills down her spine. Vivaan paled some more, and he legit screamed and tried to run away when Suraj asked Ragini to bring his laptop. Suraj had picked him up like he was 3 years old, dumping him on the sofa before proceeding to sit right next to him. Vivaan was shivering as the page loaded, his teeth chattering as he prayed to the Lord. Ragini was standing behind him, her hands on his shoulder to calm him down.
"Holy Shit Bhai!" She screamed a few seconds later and Vivaan got up to run away. Suraj had to grab him again, before Ragini announced proudly, "You've passed with Distinction! 87%!"
"What? Mera hi result hai na?!" Vivaan asked, coming back to sit on the sofa. "Wahi. Mujhe bhi doubt ho raha tha pehle, par tera hi result hai," Suraj said, smiling.
"OhMyGod! Main pass ho gaya!" Vivaan screamed as Ragini joined him, both doing the bhangra dance. Suraj just shook his head at the both of them, before calling out to them to finish their lunch.

Vivaan, for the first time in his entirety of 21 years, was wasting a SUNDAY, a holy Sunday, on assignments. For a while now he had put it off, uncaring and uninterested to complete his work. But his big brother had asked him that morning how he was doing in college, and if Vivaan had replied that he was chilling and not doing assignments and planning to flunk the exams maybe, Suraj would have literally castrated him. Quite ironically, Suraj was more interested than Vivaan himself about him doing well in college.
So again, here he was, wasting his youth away on assignments. On a Sunday morning. The world was a cruel place.
"Bhai, help me with this problem," Ragini came into his room. "Kaunsa?" He asked, looking up from his work. "This... oh wait, I lost the page." She sat down, turning the pages of the book furiously, when...
"Ouch."
She got a paper cut.
Suraj, meanwhile, was out with Chakor, shopping. He didn't like the idea of shopping, but, if he got to spend a few hours with his woman, he didn't mind. It was tough to meet her nowadays, what with him starting to work and all. Chakor giggled at the faces he made as she picked up random stuff. "Do you really need these?" He asked, scrutinizing the neon orange tee that screamed LOUD with its entire being.
"No, but it's fun to tease you. Shopping with you is so much fun!" She chuckled, and he mock clapped at her. "Very funny," he spat out, sarcasm lacing his voice.
His phone rang, and he reached into his pocket to take it out. The minute he answered the call though, he wished he hadn't. He kept his phone a good length away from his ears as Vivaan continued to scream, Ragini joining him after a few seconds.
He frowned, holding the bridge of his nose as he waited for his siblings to calm down. "Ab kya hua?" He was exasperated. Chakor looked on, amused.
"Bhaiya!" Ragini cried into the phone. "I was... I... waaah!"
"OhMyGod! Ragini! Khoon!" Vivaan screamed, and Suraj was alert.
"The hell happened?!" He barked into his phone.
"RAGINI GOT A PAPER CUT! And it's bleeding! Girja! Ambulance bulao!" Vivaan cried out, and Ragini just continued wailing. Suraj, at the other side, almost went and hanged his head on the wall. "For the love of God, it's just a paper cut!" He shouted at the two of them. He was just so close to sending them back to preschool.
Gasps from the both of them as Suraj belittled the issue.
"Bhaiya I'm in pain!"
"Yes! And the bleeding just won't stop!"
"Then keep it under running water for a while and then disinfect it with Savlon." Suraj banged his head this time. With that gaudy tee shirt he was holding.
Silence for a few seconds, before Ragini squeaked. "Savlon hurts," she sobbed. "Bhaiya she's in pain," Vivaan wailed too.
"Both of you, do as I say or I'll come home right now and beat some sense into and we'll see which hurts more."
.
.
.
"Roger."
Suraj disconnected the call, and Chakor was still staring at him, unblinking.
"Feel free to admire me," Suraj said sarcastically, arms wide open as he gestured to himself. Chakor laughed. "How do you manage to stay sane with so many of us troubling you?" She asked, hugging him from the side.
"I don't know." He shrugged, an arm around her shoulder. "Sometimes, I pray for patience. Sometimes, I pray for a gun."

(Once, when they were younger.)
Suraj stretched and yawned as he got up. It was summer, and his room was literally lava right now. He went to open the windows, only to...
"What the hell! RAGINI! VIVAAN! Get down from there!"
2 minutes later, Suraj stood down a tree in their garden, staring up at his two siblings.
"HOW," he started, "Just how did you two manage to get up there?!"
Indeed, Vivaan and Ragini were up the tree, and Suraj had had the shock of his life when he had opened the windows and found the both of them crouching on the branch that was near his room.
"Well, woh..." Vivaan started. "There was a cat stuck up here, and I was trying to save it," Ragini squeaked, holding on tightly to the branch. "Aur phir woh billi aasaani se neeche aa gayi, aur bechari Ragini yahan par atak gayi. Isliye hum upar chad gaye usse bachane, par..." Vivaan stare at the ground, shivering at the height.
Suraj had half the mind to just leave them there. But then the branch had creaked, and without second thought, he ran inside to get a blanket.
"Neeche koodo!" Suraj shouted, holding the blanket along with Girja's help. There was their mini pool, filled with water below the blanket to break their fall. It looked like a pretty neat idea, if only they would just jump from the tree.
"No, Vivaan you go first." Ragini retorted for the nth time, clutching the branch for dear life, as Vivaan pushed his sister to go first. Two minutes of this drama and Suraj snapped.
"Theek hai. Latke raho tum dono wahi par." He gave an ultimatum. Vivaan gulped, as slowly, very slowly, he put forth his left leg. "Jai Hanuman Ji!" He prayed, jumping.
Splash. "UWAAAH!"
"Chilla kyu raha hai nalayak!" Suraj shouted helping Vivaan up. Vivaan hugged Suraj out of pure shock, and relief one might say, following which he helped spread the blanket again. "Ab tu bhi neeche aa ja meri Maa!" He screamed at Ragini, who was shivering. He was a bit scared this time, since it was his sister. Vivaan was a boy, a sportive one too, so he would jump in the right direction. Ragini, however, was more likely to slip and fall from the tree while in the process of jumping. He gulped as Ragini stretched her leg out, ready to jump.
But as he had expected, she slipped. Vivaan and Suraj ran to the right, following her direction. Girja pushed the pool quickly, just in time too, since Ragini came down on the blanket just a few seconds later. The blanket sort of slipped from the boys hands, but thankfully, Ragini splashed in the pool. Suraj breathed out a sigh of relief as Vivaan helped Ragini out of the pool.
"That was fun!" Ragini exclaimed all of a sudden, and Suraj's eyebrow twitched.
"What fun?! Tum dono ko andaaza bhi hai ki aaj kya ho sakta tha? Jaake likho so baar, ki phirse aisi koi harkat nahi karenge!"
"But Bhaiya!"
"CHUP!"
***
Ragini shivered as the sound of thunder rumbled in the haveli. She looked up at the wall clock, it was almost 12. She was alone in the house, and the power had been cut due to the bad weather outside. She had lit a few candles to keep her company while she waited for Suraj.
Draping the shawl around herself, she pulled up her legs as she rocked back and forth on the couch, trying to warm herself up. 'It would have been better if Bhai was here,' she idly thought. Vivaan was now in London, doing his Masters'.
She reached for her phone and tried dialling Suraj's number.
'The number you have dialled is currently switched off.'
She cursed at the monotone voice as she threw her phone to the other side of the couch. She slowly got up and started to walk around in circles, glancing at the door now and then. It seemed like an eternity before Suraj arrived in the doorway, panting and gasping for breath as he crouched down to his knees.
"Bhaiya!" Ragini was immediately at his side. "Towel lijiye. Oh God, you're completely drenched!" She cried as she started to dry his hair furiously as he collapsed on the sofa. "It's past 12. You should've gone to sleep," he said nonchalantly, unprepared for the volcano eruption.
"Wait kar rahi thi aapka! Barah baje hai! Aur baahar kitni zor se baarish ho rahi hai! Aapka phone kabse switch off aa raha hai! Kyu main chintha nahi kar sakthi aapke liye?! Fine. Main jaa rahi hu sone."
Suraj caught her before she could leave. He had wanted to pull her into a hug, but decided against it since he was drenched. He had had a vague idea that his sister would be waiting for him, which is why he rushed back even in the stormy weather. He placed a hand on her head, ruffling her hair.
"Not like that! I'm really happy you waited for me." He kissed her forehead. "I have the best sister in the world!" He beamed at her.
That made her happy and Suraj followed her to her room to put her to sleep, his clothes a bit dry now. He patted her forehead and smiled at her as she slept peacefully, before leaving to his own room.
Sisters, surely, were second moms.
EXTRA: "Ek do garma-garam parathe bhi bana leti humare liye, baahar kitni tand hai," Suraj teased her.
"Hum dono ko pata hai, parathe toh pakka jal jaathe, saath mein rasoi bhi jal jaathi."

(Ragini's in High School)
"I don't get this at all," Ragini whined. Vivaan sat beside her, exasperated. "I've tried all possible ways to explain it to you. Bhaiya se jaake pucho, tumhe samjhana mere bas ki baat nahi hai."
Ragini huffed as she went out of Vivaan's room. "Bhaiya," she called as she knocked on the door. "I need help with this." She said, pointing to her Math textbook as he opened the door. Suraj simply nodded his head, albeit a bit confused. Since his end sem exams were on, Ragini would have usually gone to Vivaan so as to not bother him. Nevertheless, he let her in.
.
.
.
Big mistake.
Half an hour later, Suraj sat on his bed, pinching the bridge of his nose and squeezing his eyes shut in exasperation. Ragini, meanwhile, was looking at her math textbook like it was something alien.
He had tried to explain the concept to her as best as he could, but she had always shook her head when he had asked whether she had understood. Who found arithmetic progressions that difficult?!
Sighing, he opened his mouth to explain one last time.
"Look here. If there are 4 terms in an AP, and you need to find a term in between, say 3rd term, what would you do?"
"Use the formula!" She replied, nodding her head vigorously.
"Right. So the formula is a+3d. Now, the 3rd term... can also be written as the (4-1)th term. The last but one term. Are you with me?" He asked slowly, and she nodded her head in understanding.
"So now, if I have 'n' terms in an AP, and I have to find the last but one term, what's the formula?"
Ragini thought for a while before answering, beaming up at Suraj. "It's (a+md)!" Suraj literally threw the book on the floor.
"HOW?! How did you get m? It's (n-1)! The (n-1)th term!" He screamed.
Ragini looked at him confused. "But how? 3 is the number before 4, and m is the alphabet before n! So it's m into d right?!" Ragini shouted back. Suraj slapped his forehead in disbelief.
"Your non existent thinking capacity gives me a headache. Go stand over there, outside the room."

(How Suraj ended up buying a jeep.)
"This one!" Ragini announced, pointing at a neon pink scooty that looked so out of place in the showroom. "Mazaak kar rahi ho kya?! Bhaiya, yeh gaadi achchi hai!" Vivaan said, pointing to the Duke.
"That's so uncomfortable! You have to bend so much to ride that thing!" Ragini accused. Suraj, meanwhile, looked around the entire place, ignoring his two siblings and the commotion they were causing. "But only two people can sit in the bike." Ragini said slowly. Vivaan beamed. "He's obviously going to let me sit behind! I'm his favourite!" Vivaan made a face at his sister, and Ragini gasped, trying to hit him and he dodged.
Suraj, at the corner, raised an eyebrow. "What makes you think I'm going to allow either of you to sit at the back?"
"But Bhaiya..." both made puppy dog eyes at him. "We came before Bhabhi," Ragini squeaked, pretending to wipe imaginary tears rolling down her cheeks. Suraj's eyebrow twitched.
"I've decided, I'm gonna buy this one!" He announced, pointing at the jeep. Both stared at him, confused. "All of us can fit in." He said, and they smiled, nodding their heads vigorously, rejoicing.
"Also," Suraj's voice dropped an octave lower, along with the temperature of the place as he furrowed his eyebrows. "Any of you creates any trouble, it's going to be easy to toss you out."
Gulp.

C: What?
S: Did it hurt when you fell for me? ;)
C: I swear to God.

EXTRA Extra shot: (Small incident after Suraj and Chakor are married)
Vivaan was turning the pages of the document over and over. Throwing the file aside, he picked up another, vainly searching for the one he wanted.
"Shayad Bhaiya ke room mein hoga woh file," he thought aloud, making his way to Suraj's room. "Bhai, kahan jaa rahe ho?" Ragini called out suddenly from down the stairs. "Bhaiya ke room mein. Kuch kaam tha. Kyu kya hua?"
"Kuch nahi. Since you're going to his room anyway, call Bhaiya and Bhabhi for dinner. It's Bhaiya's favourite today," she said, going into the kitchen as Vivaan nodded his head.
Few moments later he stood outside Suraj's room. He had knocked a few times, but no one answered. Thinking it was odd, he knocked one final time before turning to leave. Almost immediately, Chakor opened the door, out of breath, setting her hair with her hands. Her face was flushed as she asked Vivaan what was the matter.
"Nahi, woh ek file nahi mil rahi thi so I thought it must be here. Aside are you alright, Bhabhi? You took so long to open." He asked, concerned, and a bit confused at her behaviour.
"Y...yeah. I'm fine. I... I was just... doing... stuff. Yeah, just doing stuff," she nodded her head, hoping he would be convinced.
Vivaan would have been convinced, had Suraj not stood behind her, arms on either side of the doorway, hair disheveled, shirt unbuttoned, belt unbuckled. Vivaan's jaw dropped to the floor as realisation finally hit him, while Chakor looked on, confused, since she didn't know Suraj was behind her. As if announcing his presence, Suraj slurred out in a deep voice,
"Yeah, she was doing stuff. And I'm," gesturing to himself, "I'm 'stuff'."
Extra: (Okay I need to stop.)
Imli: Didi, why doesn't Vivaan want to get married soon?!
