(Takes place when they were young, and all the elders of the family are out.)
"Vivaan! Ragini! Jaldi neeche aa jao, varna der ho jaayegi," Suraj shouted from the dining hall. On getting no response, he climbed up the staircase, irritated, and made his way to their rooms.
On reaching Vivaan's room, he flung open the door, ready to shout at him, only to find it empty. Confused, he made his way to their sister's room. He could hear faint noises, and... was that wailing? He increased his pace, and found that her room doors were open.
Suraj peered in, and found both his siblings in the room. Somewhat relieved, he entered the room, only to find Ragini bawling her eyes out. Vivaan was trying to calm her down, visibly failing. He looked at Suraj with hopeful eyes, and Suraj suddenly felt an ominous wind, though it was only for a moment.
He went closer to them, and calmly asked Ragini what was wrong. She was trying her best to speak, but her sobbing disrupted her speech, and left Suraj all the more confused. Finally, Vivaan spoke up. "She has to tie up her hair for school," he said. "And she doesn't know how."
"Waaah!" Ragini's cries just got louder. Vivaan put an arm around his sister to calm her down. Suraj meanwhile, fetched her comb from the dressing drawer. He started combing her hair back, and Ragini stopped for a minute, out of pure shock. Vivaan looked at him with impossibly huge eyes as well.
"What." Suraj asked, matter-of-factly. "Rone se kuch nahi hoga ab. It's better to try SOME thing." he added, like it was the most obvious thing to do.
But it was easier said than done. Suraj had NO IDEA whatsoever about how to plait his sister's hair. Vivaan suggested that he part her hair into three parts. "Mummy ko dekha tha ye karte huye," "Uske baad?" Suraj asked.
"Pata nahi. Right se left aur left se right, cross over karti thi,"
It was hilarious. Suraj tried all sorts of permutations and combinations, till he finally nailed it. "DONE!" he announced. "Aaand we're gonna be late for school." Vivaan said. "Chalo, jaldi!" and they rushed out.
"Thank you Bhaiya," Ragini said as she kissed Suraj's cheek. "Haan, Haan, chal abhi. Teri wajah se sab late hojayenge ab." Suraj chided her, but he couldn't help the involuntary smile that graced his face, and that stayed there the whole day.

(This takes place when they're a bit older.)
Vivaan couldn't be happier. Board exams were over, his college would start only after one and half months, and he could sleep in all he wanted. Ah, this was Heaven.
"Bhaiya utho aur nashta kar lo," Ragini said as she peeled the covers off of him.
And this was Hell.
"Sone de na," he dragged. "Nashta baad mein kar loonga. Yaa phir seedhe lunch ke liye neeche aaunga." He decided. "Par..." Before Ragini could continue, Vivaan's phone rang.
The universe was bent on waking him up today. Irritated, he pressed answer, without looking at the phone.
"Kaun hai be?" He could care less about how rude he was right now.
"Tera Bhai hai be," a gruff voice came. And immediately Vivaan was up. "B...bhai. Good morning. K...kya hua? Kuch k...kaam tha?"
Ragini stifled a giggle. Such a transition under a minute.
"Haan woh... ek kaam tha. Par Ragini ko math batana." Suraj answered.
"Kyu?!" Ragini was incredulous! "Kya 'kyuuu'?! Tujhe bata diya tho sara gaon ko patha chal jayega ki baat kya hai. Tu nikal wahan se." Suraj answered.
Ragini pouted. She wouldn't budge. Sighing, Suraj said, "Lekin kisi ko bataana nahi. Samjhi? Okay tho... Vivaan woh..."
Silence.
"Woh...?" Vivaan dragged.
"Agar tumhe... AGAR, kisise kehna ho ki tum usse pasand karte ho to kaise... matlab ki..."
Silence again, as Suraj sputtered for words.
"BHAI..." both of them said together, mischievous smiles on their faces. Ragini was just so close to squealing. "Kaun hai woh ladki?" Vivaan said, smirking. Not that Suraj could see them.
"Hai ek... hamare college mein. Jungli Billi. Rehne de, attitude problem hai usko, jab dekho Jhansi ki Rani ki tarah kadi ho jaathi hai ladne ke liye." Suraj sighed.
"Phir bhi, aap usse pasand karte ho na," Ragini said. "Haan, kar... matlab, nahi. Hum kyu kisi ladki ke peeche padenge? Itni saari ladkiyan hai jo hum pe marti hai!" Suraj asserted. So obvious, so Suraj.
"Bhai, agar aap aise hi rahe toh woh aapko kabhi palat kar bhi nahi dekhegi." Vivaan said. "... sacchi?" Suraj had never sounded so unsure. "Mucchi. Do one thing, get her a bouquet of roses and THEN tell her how you feel." Ragini suggested.
Still, it took THREE days for Suraj Rajvanshi to muster up enough courage to ask his 'Jungli Billi' out on a date.
(PS: She said Yes. This is mostly happening because it's my story and not the actual thing. *sobs*)

One day:
"RAGINI! Jaldi aao!" Suraj screamed from the entrance, honking the jeep's horn for emphasis. Ragini came running. "Kya hua bhaiya?" She asked.
"Zara gate khol de. Mujhe bahar jaana hai." Suraj replied innocently.
Ragini stared at him. He stared back. The staring contest went on for a good half minute. "Naukar nahi hu main. Aapko bahar jaana hai, toh aap ko khud hi gate kholni padegi." She puffed her cheeks out as she said this.
Suraj switched off the ignition and was getting down from the jeep, or at least, he pretended to. "Chal theek hai. Tera Raksha Bandhan ka thofa lene ke liye jaa raha tha. Agar tujhe nahi chahiye toh koi baat nahi." He said coolly as he walked towards the main door.
"BHAIYA! Main toh mazaak kar rahi thi. Kya aap bhi, serious ho gaye ek dum se! Aap gaadi mein betiye, main hu na, main gate kholti hu aapke liye." Ragini said, clutching his hand tightly to prevent him from going inside.
"Arrey wah! Tu tho bohot samajdhar hai," Suraj complimented, raising his eyebrows. "Aakhir kiski behen hu main?" Ragini beamed up at him.
"Bas bas. Aadha kilo makhan laga chuki hai, jaake gate khol."
---------------------------------------------------------------
"So you're sure you're ready for this?" Vivaan asked for the nth time. "YES! Now can we go?" Ragini asked impatiently. "Come on, hop on, quick!"
When Ragini asked him to climb on the Scooty, Vivaan wanted to scream and run to the temple and pray for his life. "Hey Bhagwan, ab sab Tere haath mein hai. Bacha le mujhe. Ab tak to koi girlfriend bhi nahi hai meri," Vivaan prayed silently.
"Bhaiya chalo!" And off they went.
"RAGINI! BRAKE! Brake! OhMyGod no NO! TURN! TURN! Don't accelerate now! OhMyGod! Oye Oye! Watch out." And thus ended Ragini's first drive on her Scooty, with all of them on the pavement.
"You know what, let's go over the basics again." Vivaan breathed out, a hand on his chest, happy he could feel his heart beating.
"Bhaiya yeh sab aapki galti hai. You didn't teach me properly!" Ragini shouted.
"Maine kya kiya?! Oye hello! You didn't even turn, okay? If I hadn't helped, we would have hit the gate! Dikha nahi kya?!" And they started fighting.
Meanwhile, Suraj was watching this scene in amusement from his balcony, when he received a text.
C: Kya kar rahe ho?
S: Baahar chote bachche khel rahe hai, dekh kar has raha hoon. :D

(Suraj has passed out of college. Vivaan is in his third year.)
Vivaan walked towards Suraj's room, a dreamy look on his face. He had a goofy smile on, and kept sighing every two seconds. Suraj was perplexed seeing him this way.
"Kya hua?" Suraj finally blurted out, shocked seeing Vivaan going from happy to super happy and then back to sighing, and then repeating the cycle. "Pucho math bhai," Vivaan sighed again.
"Okay fine. Toh main nikaltha hu. Mujhe factory jaana hai." Suraj said, picking up his jacket.
"BHAI! Mera woh matlab nahi tha! Puchiye na aap, aaj kya hua?" And that goofy grin was back. "Acha theek hai, main hi bata deta hu. Shayad... nahi, humein pakka pyaar ho gaya hai Bhai!" Vivaan exclaimed.
'Aha,' Suraj thought as he raised an eyebrow. He went and sat next to Vivaan on the bed. "Kya baat hai mere Bhai!" Suraj smiled. "And? Did you tell her yet?" He prompted.
Vivaan's face dropped. "So that's a No." Suraj guessed.
"Waise hai kon woh ladki jisne humare Bhai ko deewana bana diya hai?" "Fresher hai, Bhai. Usse jab bhi dekhta hu, DDLJ ka woh gaana background mein bajne lagta hai," Vivaan said, and continued to sing, "Tujhe dekha toh yeh jaana Sanam..."
Suraj could barely control his laughter. Whoever this girl was, Vivaan had fallen for her, hard. "Naam kya hai uska?" He asked, followed by a snort. Vivaan looked so much like a teenage girl in love right now, with that dreamy face of his.
"Uska naam bhi bada cute hai! Imli naam hai uska," Vivaan said happily. Suraj, who had been laughing till now, abruptly stopped. "Soch raha hu kal Freshers' Party mein usko bol du ki main usse pasand karta hu," Vivaan continued, unaware of the change in mood.
Suraj hit him lightly on the head. "Sochna bhi math," he warned. "Par Bhai, kyu?" "Saali hai woh humari. Door reh samjhe," Suraj said sternly. Vivaan gaped up at Suraj. Then he turned and softly sang, "Bhai, Bhai na rahaaa..." and ran out of the room before Suraj could hit him again, for real this time.
Extra: (Text message again. We shouldn't be peeking, y'know!)
S: Teri behen kisi ko pasand karti hai kya?
C: Not that I know of. Why?
S: Nahi maine uske liye ek ladka pasand kiya hai. :D

(*Drum roll* The real story of how Suraj knows to cook. JK.)
Sunday. Finally. Suraj descended the stairs in slow, sluggish steps. Yawning, he picked up the morning newspaper from the tea table and proceeded to brew himself a cup of coffee, as even the helpers had a day off today.
'What a peaceful morning,' Suraj thought. 'If only all the days of the week began this way.'
He was lounging around on the sofa, reading the newspaper and enjoying his morning coffee when Ragini appeared.
"Bhaiya." Ragini squeaked. "Hmm?" He replied off-handedly, gazing at the newspaper. "Aaj khana main banaungi." She declared.
Peaceful mornings? Kaaw Kaaw Kaaw.
Suraj stood up, gaping at her, like a fish out of water, lost for words. "What? Why? If no one's at home, we can just go out and eat! No need for you to take so much trouble," Suraj gave her a hesitant smile, hoping she would get convinced.
But then again, she was HIS sister. "No," she replied, and Suraj's heart dropped to the ground. The last time Ragini had tried to 'cook', the kitchen that Suraj knew for more than twenty years of his life, had been converted into what looked like the remains of World War III. He didn't have to waste money on the Conjuring 2 movie ticket then.
Coming back to the problem at hand, Ragini would not back down no matter what her brother said. Vivaan had come in sometime during their conversation, and had found it a great idea. 'Yeah, because you weren't there last time, you moron,' Suraj cursed inwardly.
With no other option, the three musketeers ended up in the kitchen. Suraj kept muttering "All is well, all is well," to himself, hoping to calm down his heart. He stood at one corner of the room, while Ragini and Vivaan busied themselves. And then it began.
"Is the pan supposed to be making this kind of noise?" Ragini asked. "How do I know the oil is hot enough to start cooking?" She added.
"Don't know, and *sniff*," Vivaan wiped his eyes as he was cutting an onion, "how much... YAH! My eyes are burning!" He cried out, and started running everywhere, Ragini trailing behind him with a jug of water.
"BAS! Bohot ho gaya! Chalo niklo tum dono yahan se!" Suraj barked. Needless to say, he ended up having to prepare lunch for all three of them (My day off! *sniff*) while taking reference from YouTube videos.
---------------------------------------------------------------
(Some random time, they're grown up though.)
Suraj descended the stairs, grinning. Vivaan and Ragini who were watching TV in the main hall, noticed this. Curious, Ragini asked, "Bahar jaa rahe ho Bhaiya?" "Haan, par agar kisi ne pucha toh kehna kisi kaam se factory gaya hu," Suraj said, making his way to the main door.
"Samajh gaya." Vivaan smirked. Ragini took a bit more time to understand. When she finally did, she puffed out her cheeks and huffed. "Kya bhaiya, kab tak chup chup ke milte rahoge Bhabhi se?"
"Chup chup ke nahi re, movie ke liye le jaa raha hoon. And what Bhabhi? Shaadi nahi hui hai ab tak humari," Suraj retorted. "Toh kar lo na!" Vivaan spoke up. Suraj was taken aback.
"Haan Bhaiya, tab toh aapko jhoot bhi nahi bolna padega," Ragini said, and added in her brain, 'Aur humein finally humari Bhabhi mil jaayegi! YAY!'
Suraj thought for a while.
