So finally it's here! (Though this is just part 1!) Sorry if I made you wait, second part of Shaadi special however, I think I'll update sooner (I have a holiday tomorrow, that's why! Plus, I'm excited to write that chapter! 😆)
"Bhaiya!" Ragini exclaimed as soon as she opened the door to an exhausted Suraj. Some of her excitement seemed to have seeped into Suraj, for he beamed at her, pulling her into a bear hug. He had to lift her off the ground to make up for the height difference. "I missed you so much!" She squealed as he put her down and kissed her forehead, never breaking the hug.
"Really? You really missed your big brother?" Suraj teased her, and she puffed out her cheeks. Before she could reply, Rishab came towards the door, greeting him and welcoming him home. Suraj nodded as he entered the house, handing his briefcase to Ragini. He patted her head and they shared a look of understanding, him stating that they would continue their talk later, with her agreeing.
They proceeded toward the hall and Suraj took note of his surroundings. The boxes had been more or less cleared. He didn't miss some of the new items, presumably Chakor's, mixed in with his own. The reality of moving in together now hit him hard, and internally, he felt elated at these small changes. He didn't miss that there were two couches in the house, and, though exhausted, he crossed the hall to crash on Chakor's couch, despite his being nearer.
He sat back and stretched, breaking his bones. He wore a contented smile as he saw Chakor coming out of the kitchen with a glass of water, wearing a cream coloured night gown with little black designs. He patted the space beside him, and she sat down without any resistance. He put his arm around her small frame as he gulped down the water with the other.
Ragini and Rishab, sitting on the couch opposite the couple, giggled. Suraj just shook his head at them, crossing his legs. He turned toward Chakor with a half smirk. "My bank statement tells me you've been up to a lot of fun today," he teased. Chakor shook with laughter as she buried her face in her hands, till all of them burst out laughing together.
"This is just the beginning, Bhaiya," Ragini giggled, and they laughed some more.
Rishab briefed him about their 'adventures' during the day, and stopped when he had finished telling about Ragini's arrival.
Suraj raised his eyebrows at Chakor. "South Indian wedding?" He asked unsure. "Yes," Chakor nodded her head vigorously, stars in her eyes. Suraj consented without a word.
He couldn't explain how he felt about the marriage. It wasn't a sudden thing, it was expected, but at the same time, every thing seemed to be happening so fast. Presently, Chakor spoke up. "Rishab and I will be leaving early tomorrow, at 4. We'll be going to my old house."
"Old house? Why? What about...?" Suraj held his tongue, since Ragini was there.
"Well, the bride and the groom can't leave from the same house," Rishab said. "Don't worry, every thing is fine." He added.
If it was someone else, Suraj would have still been worried about Chakor's safety. But it was Rishab who had said that, and maybe that's why all his doubts just dissolved into dust.
"And guess what?" Rishab said, grinning ear to ear. "I'm gonna be acting as Chakor's brother tomorrow!" He got up, as did Chakor, and they both high-fived. "Oh?" Ragini spoke up. "Whatever. I'm enough from Bhaiya's side!" She went and sat beside Suraj.
Suraj chuckled at their antics.
"But how did you manage to set everything up in a single day?" Ragini asked Rishab. All of a sudden, he stood like he was on stage, and a mic had been handed to him. He cleared his throat dramatically, and began, "Remember Chagan?" He winked. Suraj's eyes grew wide. "My classmate?" He exclaimed.
"Yup, same guy. He's now in charge of his family business, which was..."
"A marriage bureau." Suraj completed for him, smiling.
"Yeah. As soon as I mentioned your name, he immediately consented to all our unreasonable demands, telling that I wouldn't have to worry about a thing, and that he would take care of everything. I even talked to his mother for half an hour. She's really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. She might end up getting tawa pulav too," he winked again, and Suraj smiled wide.
Chakor looked between the both of them. "Tawa pulav?" She asked softly. She remembered it was Suraj's favourite dish, at least one of them. "Yeah. Sheetal aunty's tawa pulav is one of the main reasons why Suraj used to crash at Chagan's place during high school. Aunty never got tired of making it, and Suraj never got tired of eating it," Rishab laughed, as did Suraj.
"Who would've thought," Suraj said slowly.
Luck seemed to be on their side, since every thing seemed to be going on so smoothly, at least for now. Setting up a marriage in a day was no joke, yet somehow, Rishab had managed to do it. Suraj pondered over why Rishab still chose to remain by his side and not start up on his own or aim for higher posts, the lad was surely capable.
Not that he'd want Rishab to go away from his side. Though it seemed selfish, he loved the guy as a younger brother, and didn't plan to let him go unless he asked for it himself.
All this time, Ragini had remained silent. She seemed to be thinking about something, and noticing this, Chakor signalled Rishab that they should probably leave the siblings alone for a while. The two of them quietly went into one of the rooms, probably sorting out Suraj and Chakor's clothes and other stuff for tomorrow.
Suraj looked up at Ragini, who was standing beside him, lost in thought. He held her hand, which pulled her out of her reverie, and she proceeded to sit beside Suraj, her arms around him as she rested her head on his shoulder. He put his arm around her, placing it on her head, and they stayed like that, a comfortable silence between them for couple of minutes, before Ragini spoke.
"Bhaiya, are you happy?"
"Hmm?" He muttered. He hadn't been paying attention. She straightened herself into a seated position and looked up at him. "Are you happy?" She asked, slower this time.
Suraj stared at her, confused, till he replied, "Of course I am. Why do you ask?"
She hugged him again.
"I just feel like a bad sister. It's always you who's been doing every thing for me. Even your marriage... I thought I would make a grand affair out of it. I didn't expect this to happen so soon." She sobbed silently.
"Aye kiddo," Suraj tightened the hug. "Why are you feeling sad now huh? Don't make me a bad brother now." And Ragini immediately shook her head. "And I am happy. She's the only girl I've loved, and now, she's finally mine. I can't tell you how I feel. And if it's about the marriage, then I'm more than happy that YOU'RE here. I honestly didn't expect you to come this soon."
"Hehe. I'm your sister after all. Always expect the unexpected." She giggled. "So she's the one for you?"
"Yup. She's my 'Made in Heaven'." The siblings laughed heartily, and continued to talk about random stuff, till both of them ended up dozing off on the sofa.
Chakor and Rishab meanwhile, ended up staying till 2 sorting out all the things. They packed her essentials in one big suitcase, and Suraj's in another. Only his morning clothes were out, the others stacked neatly inside. Ragini had not unpacked, so hers was taken care of. Rishab had put all his newly bought clothes in one kit as well, and kept it alongside Chakor's so that they could carry it out in the morning... or in another two hours to be precise. Rishab collapsed on the bed, and Chakor giggled, making her way into the hall and switching off the light there as well. She didn't want to disturb the two, even though it seemed like they were sleeping in an uncomfortable position. She went into Suraj's room and slept beside Yuvi, at least tried to.
She kept turning and tossing on the bed, unable to contain her excitement. Tomorrow, no, TODAY, she would be getting married... to Suraj!
It was funny. Nothing excited her more than the fact that it was going to be Suraj beside her, tomorrow and forever. She buried her face in the pillow, for she felt like screaming out loud. She was acting like a teenage girl who just got hit on by her crush, she chided herself. But the other side told her that it was okay, since it was S.U.R.A.J.
She listened to the other side.

Rishab called Ragini at around 5.30, waking her up. She was careful to not wake Suraj up. He had left with Chakor and Yuvi, and told her that Chagan would be arriving soon, at maybe 6.30. He asked them to get ready by then, and she consented.
Ragini thought of waking Suraj up maybe half an hour later, cause he had literally looked drained yesterday night. "It's his wedding today," she jumped in glee as the thought crossed her mind. She raced against time to complete her morning routine, so that she could attend to Chagan when he arrived.
Suraj was slow to get up that day, he felt sluggish. But he couldn't stay that way for long since Ragini was emanating happy vibes all through out, making him smile as well. His spirits always rose whenever his sister was around. He tried to get ready as soon as possible, though he had no idea what to wear. He was thankful that Chakor had left his morning clothes out.
It was a simple white salwar with a lilac coloured long sleeved ethnic coat. He had just about finished brushing his hair when Ragini came in.
"Bhaiya," she knocked on the door.
"Come on in," he said simply, glancing back at her in the mirror. She looked beautiful in her anarkali suit, a mix of pale pink and white. Suraj internally thought about how she would look on her wedding day, and then shook his head. Rishab didn't look like he was going to pop the question anytime soon.
She smiled as she moved towards him, a box in her hands. She opened the box, and taking his left hand, tied the watch around it. Suraj's eyebrows shot up. "What...?" He trailed off, and she beamed at him. "I can spoil my big brother too sometimes," she smiled. "Hurry up, Chagan is already here. Everyone's waiting for you. They've put up a... a..." she struggled with the word.
"*Chapra*," Chagan offered as he stood at the door way. He smiled at Suraj, coming in and enveloping him in a hug. "Congrats, Bro!"
"Thanks a lot! God, how long has it been?" Suraj asked as they parted.
"Long enough for you to forget about me," an annoyed female voice spoke up. The trio turned to the door way to see Sheetal aunty standing there, her cheeks puffed out. Suraj walked towards her, bending down to hug her.
"Aunty, I missed you so much! What do you mean? I could never forget about you!" Suraj exclaimed. "Jhoota," she chided him, pulling his ear. "Kinna sona lag raha hai aaj. Kisi ki nazar na lage!"
Ragini came forward to greet her as well, and Suraj, accompanied by Chagan, made his way to the entrance, only to find the whole house bedecked. There were flower decorations all over, no corner was left out. Outside, fully grown plantain trees were erected, decorated with flowers again. Colourful rangoli designs had been made, all along the driveway, to the gate, and Suraj was in awe of the intricate patterns.
Ragini ran down cheerfully, admiring all the decorations. Suraj followed her down, but Sheetal aunty stopped him from going out.
"Dulhe Raja, tehriye. Shaadi hai aapki, aise kaise chale baahar?"
She proceeded toward him with the aarti thaal, and adorned his face with a tika. "Arre Ragini, tu kyu wahan kone mein khadi hai? Dulhe ki behen ko to sabse aage hona chahiye! Chal, aaja!"
The women proceeded with the aarti, as Suraj finally stepped out of the house. Immediately, a decorated car was in front of him. Ribbons, flowers and what not. Suraj stood rooted to his place for a few seconds, following which he turned to Chagan.
Chagan smiled at him.
"Humare Bhai ki shaadi hai. So what if I had only one day to prepare? Teri shaadi dhoom dhaam se karaana mere aur Rishab ka haq hai!"
Hearing his words, Suraj couldn't help but smile. Chagan put his arm around Suraj's shoulders, escorting him to the car.
"And trust me, this is just the beginning." He winked.
"I can't wait to see the rest." Suraj smiled back.
