Hey guys,

Obvivously, I have read all 3 novels in the Twilight series by Steph and by all means they are great story wise. Its really quite a piece of imagination. Regardless, I feel that Stephanie Meyers needs to polish her literary skills. I'm a regular reader and I have read a lot of books. Therefore, it's quite easy for me to analyse writings. I feel that at times she goes to overboard with her choice of words, that it seems that she is trying to hard, when the rest of the novel is pretty much simple. I talked to a couple of my friends and librarians about it and they share the same views as me. Keeping the story line aside--- do you guys think the Stephanie needs to work on her literary skills?

I actually disagree.

Thats' exactly one of her qualities I like when i read her books. She writes this wonderful story and as A reader I think i've never tried so hard to comprehend what's going on. And if you mean she uses different and big words, i find that intrguing. To understand, to relate & reading between the lines. It's all so different. Most stories aren't like it. And for me it sets the tone & feeling. I personally believe shes an exceptional writer, cause its not just Edward i love. its the way she's decribed Edward, the way shes made edward talk, his feelings & all the other characters.

Her story is a unique piece of work BECAUSE of her writing skills. 😊

I agree with Jess, I am also an avid reader and one of the main reasons I enjoy her books is because of her literary skills. She uses her choice of words in a unique way and she blends it all so well together, it turns out looking really natural. And thats exactly the kind of feeling you need in a book, because then more people can relate to her writing. Some of her words may look a bit extravagant, but it cud also be cuz of the characters. Edward was born in 1901 and his word use is very different from how people talk these days :)

I've heard that from a lot of people. And I'm actually not sure on where I stand with this issue. The book is very simple and easy-to-understand, and sometimes she does begin to play with her words and demonstrate her expanded vocabulary knowledge. I never really thought too hard about it.

I still found the book a easy read, I mean, she IS an adult and not another teenager, so of course, as much as she tries, it will come out a bit different if you catch the drift. Plus the words are never extremely impossible ones that I've never heard before. It's usually part of my everyday language 😆

And I second what Kru said, she made a very good point with the whole, "Edward's born in 1901", so yes, his use of words will be very old-fashioned.

I wonder if Stephenie had to use the word thrice in there. Supposedly that word is old and hardly used anymore. I use it all the time still. 😆

i m in love with story books and all genres appeal to me coz they say something different and i think the main thing abt any literary work which r there to entertain u is that they have to touch ur heart, everything else doesnt matter after that.
while reading twilight stories i never felt as if its something i cannot love, its not tht i cannot feel any of the emotions that the characters going thru, it didnt feel as if i m trying hard to get a hang of the whole thing.......it ws natural, and the characters did make a gr8 impression on me and my mind............
i have never being bothered abt technicality behind writings, so cant comment on that but i cd love the story and to me thats enough.......... 😊 😊 😊

True enough! But, I don't think u guys got the gist of what I was trying to say! I obviously agree with you on the point that Edward talks in a different manner than all the others. What I was actually trying to convey is that, at times her writing isn't consistent and doesn't flow. Disregarding, Edwards speaking style, I think at times she tries too hard. I mean if she intended the book to be a easy read, let it be. However, contrary to that, at times she uses words that just appear out of the think air and don't flow with the rest of the story. I just felt that was very awkward. Once again like all of you I'm a die-hard fan of all her novels and I do believe she is a great writer, but like all of us--- she also has her flaws.

Yes, i get your point as well. Oviously, she isn't perfect. But what your calling a flaw isn't really a flaw. Then again I'm assuming it's all based on one's POV & opinion. So even though we both are fans of her novel, every reader has a diff perspective 😊

everyone has their flaws but stephinie is a great writer this is young adult bookd and she wrote for young adults so the writting does not always have to be legit or whatever! she wrote the story in the POV of a high schooler like bella what high schooler talkes like shakesphere or someone along those lines right?
so i think her writing is very consistant and right for a book and story like twlight! 😳

Yea, I do kind of get what u mean... but cud u post an example? Cuz like Madz said, none of the words are TOO unfamiliar, I've heard of most of them 😳 And even if I haven't, i really like learning new words... like 'ostentatious' for example... its a really fun word to use, even tho not that popular... its part of my 'twilight vocab' now! ;)
