DOTW

Did Edward Mean It?

Hey guys!

Time for a new DOTW!😆

In chapter 3 of New Moon, Edward acts withdrawn and distant for sometime before finally "breaking up" with Bella one day in the woods. When you read Edward's conversation with Bella, did YOU believe that he was sincere, or did you think that he was just fooling himself? Why or why not? What were your clues from his conversation with Bella? (Book or Movie)

..What i think was that Edward was NOT sincere in his break up with Bella because of the way that he did it. Like the way he kept looking away and how he even kissed her goodbye and things lyk that.

Okay I am gonna try my best to answer this question because I have heard it many time from others and FINALLY I get to give my POV!

First, Edward broke up with Bella because he was tired and hurt from her getting in trouble/hurt because of him. He tries to let it slide but after what happens with Jasper poor guy finally snaps.

When Edward broke up with Bella, I ADMIT I was also sad and crying but when he says he doesn't Love her and doesn't want her to come with him, I actually stopped crying because he does it all for her and her protection. AND don't think I am only saying this because I am a Edwardian . Thats NOT the thing.

Because Edward loves her so much that he is willing to go threw pain himself just to keep her safe. But i think he did know she felt the same for him and it would hurt her but he just wanted her to have a human life and not be involved in things like she got into.

He may not be sincere in others eyes but he did it all for Love in my eyes.

Edward was trying to do what was right for Bella after all he loved her. He left her at the expense of his happiness, not hers. He didn't realize how badly their separation would hurt her - he just wanted her to be safe and happy in the long-run.

His decision hurt Bella, but she understands that he never meant to, and in the end, she knows he's suffered enough and learns from his actions already.

I agree with what Ayysh and Amb had to say... and I, ofcourse dint believe when he said that... I mean how can he after all those confession to her ant not being able to staying away from her... and that he has been waiting for her all through his life... AND later on i understood that maybe, although it WILL be painful for them now... very much so.. BUT if he dint leave now... he never would be able to.. not because he wanted to but because he wanted to show Bella that there are other options for her to choose from... even though it may tear their heart apart without eachother....

Acc to me, this was the result of Edward's unconditional love for Bella... (Sigh!!!)

Edward always thought of himself as a selfish creature.Like he knew that it was dangerous for Bella to be with him. But still he was more scared of not being there with her. Like we all know Bella is magnet for accidents. And to him Bella means world. He always thought of doing the best thing for Bella. If to stay away from her was the right thing, he did tried that too. And then in the woods when he was saying all those sour words, for one second I really thought that he is serious but again....on second thought...I knew this, that he is only doing this for Bella's safety.

He is really a selfless creature,as he too suffered a lot by all that.

edward thought he was selfish n dat he was d 1 coz of whom bella's life was in trouble n could b mre...

this shows his luv 4 her.. he left her knowing dat he wouldn't b able 2 live jst 2 keep her safe....... bt he was also suffering as bella was.......

there was saddness in his eyes of nt seeing her again even hw much he wanted...........

hw cn any1 b sincere in his breakup wen he dnt want..

he wasn't sincere..........nt at all..

I never believed that he was sincere because, well there is no doubt about his love for Bella. When Edward said that he didn't love her, I knew he didn't really mean it, that it was for her own protection's sake, because his love for Bella is real..he couldn't have been lieing for all these months, nor could he have just stopped loving her for apparently no reason at all.
