Chapter-5
Kalyani was marking her students' exam papers when her phone rang.
"Hello?" Kalyani said, not entirely sure who was on the other side because there was no one left to call her and ask for her well being.
"Hi Beautiful!" A smooth voice replied.
"Malhar..." Kalyani said tentatively, "It's you, na? How did you get my phone number?"
"Wow! Aawaz se pehchan liya?" Malhar said smugly, "Itna pasand aa gaya main tumhe? Din bhar mere baare me hi sochti rehti ho kya?"
"Just cut the crap! I'm asking you again. How did you get my phone number?"
"Oho Baby!" Malhar said in a complaining voice, "Why does your record get stuck at one point only? I told you na, if a person loves someone he finds a way back to her."
"No, it was I who told you that," Kalyani bit her lip after saying this. Why did she say so? She had just met Malhar a week ago, and why would she talk about these things to a boy like him?
"OK, so listen," Malhar said, "I'm throwing a party at the Serendipity club and you're going to come sharp at 6 pm."
"And why do you think I have so much spare time to waste on your shitty parties?"
"Ok, so don't come," Malhar said nonchalantly, "I and Moksh need no one to enjoy. Bye."
"Hey wait!" Kalyani said hastily, "Please don't cut the phone. You are bringing Moksh to the club? But no club permits kids..."
"Wow! You have such an extensive knowledge about clubs. The club owner is my friend. So he has no problem in me bringing along Moksh."
....
5:30 pm at Serendipity Club
Malhar was looking out again and again for Kalyani but she hadn't arrived.
"Relax Sir," Pawar said, "No one comes to parties at such clubs before time like you."
"I have spent my two months' salary in booking the club for this evening," Malhar said, rubbing his nails against each other, "I can't let go of this chance."
"But why this club Sir? It's the most expensive club in Delhi," Pawar asked.
"It's the most expensive that's why the most influential persons in illegal drug business frequent this place to finalize their deals because only the ultra-rich visit here and hence their chance of getting caught is minimal," Malhar whispered.
"But do you think the invitations you sent to the drug lords, will they accept them?"
"They have to," Malhar sighed, "Today was a grand meeting of all big drug lords in the city. But I booked the place by giving extra bucks and invited all of them by offering them to do business with me. Their curiosity and greed will bring them here. Oh, here she comes." The club was now getting filled with the people Malhar invited.
Kalyani was looking resplendent in her blue embroidered Kurti with churidar and peacock shaped earrings. The mauve lipstick suited her very well. Malhar suddenly had an intense urge to push back the lock of hair falling over her eyes behind her ear. Kalyani was clearly uncomfortable in that atmosphere, and so was Malhar but he didn't have the liberty to let it show. And when Kalyani saw Atharv unashamedly doing PDA with his girlfriend, she felt like hiding somewhere where no one could find her. Yet she had to search for her Pillu.
"I never want to put you through this, Kalyani," Malhar sighed sadly. As he was going towards Kalyani, a pretty girl with too much makeup and too high heels clad in a little green dress stopped.
"Hi!" She said seductively, "So you are the one who threw this party? I'm must say you've got the taste and you look too handsome."
"Uh," Malhar didn't know what to say to that. He was sure that girl wouldn't spare him a second glance if she knew he was just a police officer earning Rs.70K per month who eats daal chaawal he cooks himself alone and the tattoo peaking through his shirt is temporary, she wouldn't even spare him a second glance.
"Look at that one!" The girl pointed at Kalyani, "Such a cheap, unsophisticated girl. Like dude, she came to such a happening party and that too looking like a behenji with thick glasses? I'm sure you've not inviter HER!" Her voice full of distaste was loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Yeah right," Atharv agreed from across the room.
"You know what," Malhar said, leaning at the counter sideways with his legs crossed, "You are so pretty."
The girl blushed hearing this.
"But as much as you are pretty, your voice is equally irritating. I'm just wondering how could I hear your grating, high-pitched voice like a shrieking donkey without going mad."
The girl stood there open-mouthed. But if you insult someone in front of a room full of people, you must be prepared to get insulted in front of the same people.
Malhar went towards Kalyani and extended his hand as a gesture to ask her for a dance.
"What are you doing?" Kalyani whispered fiercely.
"Nothing much," Malhar said with amusement, "Just giving your scum of a husband a teeny tiny taste of his own medicine." With this Malhar kissed Kalyani on her cheek. Kalyani's eyes were wide with shock. Kalyani looked around but seeing Atharv open-mouthed, she took Malhar's hand.
Malhar held Kalyani by her waist and pulled her closer. The song started playing:

After some time-
Malhar said, distractedly, "So you are Atharv Bapat, the midman between the dealers..."
"Midman as of now," Atharv said arrogantly, "But soon I'll rule this business and have people like you under my thumb."
"We'll see," Malhar said yawning, "So what are you offering?"
"I have the best of the stuff."
"Stop beating around the bush, and tell me your price."
"50K dollar per gram."
"Are you kidding?" Malhar laughed, "I'll find another dealer."
"You won't find a better deal than this, Mr. Malhotra," Atharv said, "This is the stuff unlike anyone has seen."
"It better be. Because I have clients all over America and Europe," Malhar said, "So you like buy your stuff from a single dealer or more than one dealers? Like how can you prove the stuff you're selling is the best."
"A good player never tells which cards he's holding in his hands," Atharv laughed, "Just know that I deal with the most dangerous drug dealers in Asia who value honesty more than life. They never sell fake stuff and nor they let anyone double-cross them."
"Honest druglords- How cute!" Malhar said, handing over a SIM to Atharv, "I'll call you on this no. after 1 am."
Atharv nodded and left the place.
So I was going to include past timeline in this chapter but it grew much longer. I hope you all are not getting bored by this. This gritty thriller thing I'm trying for the first time, so if the story is lagging at any place, please let me know.
