Uma slept through the night. His dreams were full of Kanak. She was taking care of him. When he had started to feel better, she gave him her sunny smile. Uma opened his eyes smiling back. Unfortunately it was Meeras gleeful face before him. Uma blinked and looked at her questioningly. Oh Uma, guess what Meera exclaimed. "The thorn in our side, Kanak, she has left, she is gone! Uma felt his heart sink a little but he was also relieved. The farther Kanak was from Meera the better. Atleast she would be safe. "That is great! He said and got up to get ready for work. After getting dressed, he could not help but enter Kanak's room. Her chandan fragrance still lingered. He took her pillow and hugged it to himself for a moment. "Goodbye Kanak. Please forgive me he said to her in his mind and prayed to Bholenath for her. He went to work and tried to lose himself in it.

Bhabho had taken Kanak in warmly and fussed over her. She could sense Kanak's broken heart through the pleasant facade and it broke her heart as well. This brave, loyal and loving image of Suraj and Sandhya deserved so much better. This would be her life's mission now, to make her truly smile again. Bhabho took a mental oath. Kanak called Arpita and requested her put her on a different project in Pushkar. Arpita said she would look into it and asked to speak to Bhabho. Kanak handed over the phone and went to her room. Once inside, the tears came like a deluge. She hadn't truly cried like that in the 2 years. Her tears had been mostly of hurt and anger at the betrayal. Now she cried for her lost love. Everything seemed so final now. Bhabho heard her sobs and felt her own heart clench in pain but left Kanak alone to get through this grieving in solitude as she knew that would be cathartic.

Uma was about to hand over a paper he had signed to his secretary and saw that he had signed it Kanak. Sighing, he took it back to correct. His heart and mind were occupied by her. He called Purab to check on her. He confirmed that didi was back and was in her room. Uma felt a little better that she was in the safe cocoon of her family...

In the morning, Kanak came down freshly showered and dressed. Arpita had given her a new project. It was to streamline the free midday nutrition program for the needy children in government schools. She was to work with the newly appointed District Commisoner. She felt energized as she loved children She did her research and listed all the schools in the district and collected data on the number of children being served. She made an appointment with the commisioner.

The newly appointed young IAS officer, looked up at Kanak as she entered his office. He was immediately enchanted by the earnestness on her lovely face. He was idealistic and determined to make a mark and the young woman in front of him seemed like a kindred spirit...

Uma was going about his work mechanically. Kanak being in the same city, yet him not being able to see her was a weird kind of torture. He knew he had to stay away for her own good but at the same time, every fiber of his being was aching to see her. Each day was harder than the previous day. By the end of the week, he thought he might go slightly insane. He left the office a little early.

Kanak in the meantime had thrown herself whole heartedly into the project as even one idle moment brought Uma's image to her eyes. She already had done a ton of research and had prepared a report. She wanted to present it to Akshay but he was very busy. She thought she would approach him the next day. She was finishing up to go home when Akshay surprised her by stopping at her desk. "Miss Kanak, I heard you wanted to present your report to me. Would you like to go over it over dinner with me?. I am busy the next few days during the day. I don't want to delay your project " he said. Kanak said "Of course Sir. I would like get your input as soon as possible too!. Akshay asked her driver to go home saying he would drop her home.

Uma was sitting at the exclusive Pushkar club, sipping some iced tea. He was trying to come to terms with his feelings for Kanak when a whiff of the unmistakable chandan fragrance swept past him...

BTW, the actor who will play Akshay was villain in Thapaki. Wonder if he will a negative character here too😕

"Ok. It is a business meeting Uma consoled himself, In a few minutes though they closed up the file snd focused on dinner. The guy seemed to be making witty remarks because Kanak laughed out loud a couple of times. How beautiful was her smile. He had only seen her pain on these past few encounters and now finally she smiling whole heartedly. His attention went to her companion and to his dismay saw unmistakable signs of enchantment on his face!

Uma felt completely strange. He had always been possesive of Kanak when she was his wife but now, he knew that had no right. But tell that to his heart!! He felt he could not breathe.

Kanak and the guy finished eating. They started to leave, Uma threw money on the table for his drink. He bent down so that Kanak did not notice him. He followed them from a little distance. He saw that Akshay did not let the driver open the door but did it himself for Kanak. Kanak said "Thank you Sir He shook his head and said "Akshay. Kanak gave a confused smile and then they drove away...

Kanak and Akshay were at the Rathi house, To Kanak's surprise, Akshay had insisted on dropping her to her door and Bhabho had invited him in. He was charming and polite with everyone, Ved was very impressed with him. So was everyone else, After a while, he said Good Bye and left.

Kanak went to bed. She was tired after the long day. But still she felt restless. " Why am I this way? She wondered. She knew the answer in her heart of hearts, She missed Uma, He was her soul. Her other half. She jumped up, She had not even found out if he had recovered from his fever. Was he okay?Terrible images of him being in the hospital came to mind. She could not shake off the fear. She came out and took the jeep herself and drove to Ladnu.
