I absolutely love complex characters, the varied display of emotions they have is just amazing, they are lovable, intriguing and interesting all at the same time.
The conversation was a surprise to me too, that he asks what do you look for in the darkness - he might be symbolizing himself as the darkness 😉

This Uma is more possessive towards Kanak. He had been looking for her for quite a while and when she is right there he is being observant.
