SS : A different Shade
~Jaane kis raah se aa jaye woh aaney wala, Hum ne har simt se deewaar giraa rakhi hai..~ Uma closed the book tasting the verse on his tongue, each word mirroring his state of mind, his longing, his desperation, his intezaar. His eyes ran on the things he had decorated on his table, a bangle, a garland, a lamp and a red duppata. His hand swept over the fabric and he brought the neatly folded duppata close to him, he inhaled his intoxication, his drug, the chandan mehak. His eyes closed in the ecstasy, his hand clenched the duppata, as his eyes flew open. The longing stronger than ever, the need to have her around him, to know her, to solve her, to hold her...he threw the duppata back to its place, fury rising for he still hadn't found her... he had been waiting on her like a starved lion, he collected the souvenirs she left behind in her wake for him to take, to stake a claim on them, on her. He placed his head on his hands on the edge of the table and admired his collection. He imagined her delicate hands that would wear that bangle, her melodious voice, the gleam in her eyes when the lamp glowed, he could only imagine till he actually found her. She who had consumed his being, would only be his.
A knock interrupted his train of imagination, a man stepped in and uttered two words "found her. Uma raised his head from the table, a smirk on his face, he already had a plan, his web for her.
He read the file given to him, carefully avoiding the photo, he flipped before he could glance on it. He wouldn't suffice with a picture, he could recognize her amongst hundreds. He would meet her and She would meet her fate, which has been sealed by him.
Uma stood engaged in a conversation with a few acquaintances attending the wedding, a friend's wedding he decided to attend at the last minute in Jaipur. He had planned on sending his regards with a note and gift to the couple, but the news that She would be here changed his mind. He wouldn't miss a perfect opportunity for them to meet.
He knew he would meet her and he would recognize her, that she was the one, for him only.
Kanak walked in wearing a pink lehnga and yellow choli, her face was turned to the other side, with a the sudden movement of her head, she turned her hair flicked to one side. The simplicity of her beauty, doe like eyes and prettily made up face with the party make up... Uma inhaled her existence, captivated by her appearance, her face, her eyes, the way she smiled, the long tresses that bounced with each movement. Uma stood with his breath held, for he hadn't in his wildest imagination had imagined a woman like this, he knew she was special but he was lost now. He watched her from a distance, following each of her gesture, her movements, she was taking the shagun ki haldi to mandir, "how would you manage with the dress and sandals? Brides mother asked. Kanak just shrugged her shoulder and pulled up her lehnga a few inches to reveal sneakers underneath and then she burst out laughing and the rest of the people too. Uma just smiled at her, she was one hell of an enchantress and she was his.
"I will take your haldi to mandir Uma offered the grooms mother... the guys teased him that he was so into such things... little did they know that he was going there only for Her. He walked a few steps behind her as they walked into the mandir. He intentionally moved forward suddenly that instead of ringing the bell she would hit him, she reached out and the haldi went flying away and fell on both of them. While she turned around flustered, trying to rub her eyes, he held her gaze, his hands reaching up to her eyes, she blinked wildly, blinded by the powder, he pulled out a handkerchief and helped clean her eyes. Tears rolled down her face, and his jaws clenched, he hadn't anticipated that their Haldi ceremony would bring tears for her... he looked at her and she looked up to him, he towered over her, a man clad in grey drape kurta now covered in haldi was helping her instead of getting haldi off his face. Kanak instinctively reached for her duppata and and stood up to her toes, she reached for his face and rubbed near his eyes, and that's when he realized the tingling heat of the powder in his vision... "I am sorry, I didn't realize I would hit you, it was a mistake... she said as the realization struck that it's was shagun ki Haldi on them. Uma felt a tingle of remorse that she had to apologize for his action but everything was fair in love and war and he shrugged off the guilt. "It's alright, we must get more haldi for the actual Bride and Groom.. he said and winked nodding at their state.
She stared at him, as he turned away, she couldn't see his face, but she knew that he was finest of species, his eyes despite the powder had the aura of power or darkness, she shrugged off her thoughts from straying away, she dusted some more haldi off herself and walked behind him.
