Hey there all the lovely people!!
It's the Sunday and the only day of the week I get to write my insanity... the schedule is crushing along with all the tumultuous episodes we had this week, I couldn't keep my imagination in line.
Moving on from it. Here is the next part to the story.
Part 2
Uma walked into his suit to wash off and change his haldi drenched kurta, smiling at himself as he saw his reflection in the mirror... he twirled in joy for he had finally been able to see her, touch her and start the process of getting together. His hand went through his hair, and he sighed in satisfaction for the chandan mehak was all over him, he touched his face where she had and his joy had no limits. "Kanak.. kanak ... kanak!! He chanted her name like a mantra.
Kanak walked into her room stomping her foot, for girls had laughed at her state and Aunty had been a bit skeptic, but she asked her and Him to go change and return for the next rasm as they were done with haldi for life and laughed it off as Kanak was near to tears. They had walked in silence to their respective rooms, she had no clue he was just next door. Not once did he make fun of her, he walked besides her and even when she tried to apologize again, he waved it off with his hand and a little smile. He was odd.
Brushing it off she pulled herself together as her phone rang and she couldn't hear a word she walked towards the balcony, "what's so urgent?? Why?? What happened Jai... coming in 5 minutes she looked at her mobile wondering what was wrong. Not realizing her conversation had been heard by her neighbor next door... Uma fumed at the name Jai, he knew he had to do something.
" you are the boy who cried wolf, this is the last time ever I came... you are just a friend and nothing more, please I can't accept or even think about your proposal as I would only marry the guy my Bhabho would choose Kanak shut Jai like a savage, jerked free her hand and Uma overheard it with a smile, she knew how to handle creeps. She was strong and fiery when the need arises. He saw her retreating, and came out of the corner and held Jai by the neck and pushed him to the wall... "don't ever think about her again, and no touching feelings even in the wildest of imagination, Uma snapped his wrist like a twig, the crunching of bone widened Jai's eyes further in horror... leave and never come back Uma threw him to the ground and walked away dusting his hands.
Uma didn't say a word but stayed in the shadows around her, the way she smiled, flicked her hair, rolled her eyes, made faces with her friends, he observed it all without interacting with her once but made sure to stay in her line of vision. Kanak saw him around, dressed in ash grey layered kurta, standing out amongst a varied display of colors, conversing with people, the way he stood straight, his gestures calm and controlled, never did he once try to talk or engage her attention like many others present in the wedding. He was an enigma, he was around, the distance evident but still a strong of connection ran through them.
Kanak looked at everyone dancing, the old and young dances alike. She watched her best friend having the time of her life, Kanak as a friend stepped back for her for it was time for the dynamics to change. she stood alone at one end smiling and conflicted, overwhelmed with emotions for her friend and he at the other... they both looked across the dance floor, his eyes locked into hers, yet after a few seconds Kanak realized that he looked at her, but he was occupied else where, the burning intensity of his lost gaze made her break contact.
Kanak looked ethereal, a million thoughts ran through his head, she was happy earlier, but as the dance started she just stayed away, she had wiped a lone tear escaping her Kohl'd eye, she smiled like a fool, and he realized that she was just happy and emotional for her friend. She had looked at him, and He wanted to bring her on the dance floor, to twirl her, to make her scream with joy, to wipe away all tears, to hold her and make all her dreams come true.
Later at night when the elders had retired and youngsters took the floor. Kanak slipped away, for everything was making her emotional... he saw her leaving, and he followed.
Along the lightened path there was a bench and there she sat looking into nothingness... she was at the edge of the light and stared into the darkness. He retreated and returned with two mugs of tea, he walked up to her and she stiffened and looked up at him, his eyes as dark as the clothes he wore, he towered over her yet there was a softness in him, he nodded towards the mug and she smiled a bit and took it. She shifted her lehnga to herself making more space for him than necessary. He sat down at the other end, careful to put distance between them, for he didn't want to scare her away uneasy.
They sat quietly for a while, sipping their tea, not being able to take her silence anymore, he asked "what do you look for in the darkness?
She sighed listening, "something!! She replied shrugging her shoulders.
"It's in the darkness one can see all their dreams, everything important is there shrouded, one just needs to be able to understand it he said nonchalantly.
She moved her head up, her shoulders straightened, and said "that's wonderful and weird at the same time... Uma raised his eyebrow questioningly and she continued "... wonderful because it sounds beautiful and weird because you said it... and it's mirroring my thoughts at the moment.. she turned sideways looking at him, and said "you didn't say a word whole day, and now you are here being a philosopher, who are you? She asked.
It was time for him to straighten up, "... I am Uma, groom's friend... he used to be my best friend then life happened and we just got lost somewhere... he shrugged his shoulders, his mind reprimanding him for using her emotional state of mind to his twisted version. But he just knocked his conscience away mentally...
