When it came t payal, aditiya wasn't present which is why they used pic. But while shivs ritual, kanak was their, present in the very house and still uma had to use pic. I think that is what hurted him more. And this also should be taken into notice that, in todays epi, uma never forced kanak to drink shuddi water. Only masisa was being persistent but uma let kanak decide what she wanted to do. And later according to her decision, he declared his.
