TSMSPJ*ep: 45* 24.5.17: My Impression * In the name of my family..
When it comes to one's family one tends give careful deliberation to the action one takes. Humans gravitate towards their kin, descendants, and ancestors. It gives them a sense of identity. Family gives one a sense of belonging. One's household kith and kin provides support in both high and low points of one's life. In the absence of blood relatives, usually close acquaintances or friends, act as supplement in one's life. However it goes without saying that one's family unit plays a pivotal role in one's life. Therefore the actions, decisions a person undertakes is very likely to have an effect on one's family as well. Also evident is a known fact that a person is likely to bend over backwards to oblige and honour familial bonds, all in the name of the family. However where , the family protects and preserves, it also can expose and destroy too. But where would one be without the familial spine??
It's no mistake that Uma down in the dumps finds his family around him in his room on the house boat, as a solace. His head bowed down is indicative of what he faces. His bride has runaway! But have to add, that being the role model amongst a group of mixed age range women seen as his family, also prompt him to curb and contain his emotional debacle and maintains composure. It's not so much an issue of bruised ego, with him, as much as its the fact that he liked being around Kanak. He loved a woman as nothing like before. Maasi for once treats him gently and shows restraint in use of her caustic tongue. Pointless to whip things up. Palomi silently reacts in the manner expected from her. She thought her self close to him ,but he shunned her as a stranger. The stranger he held close ,now abandoned him like a stranger. Uma gathers himself and his faith once again allows him to reason, when he justifies Kanak just cannot fly out of relationship which the gods themselves ordained. Can thus, one suffice that he will continue to pursue his bond, rather than accept that Kanak fled because she did not love him like he does? For me it's more about his faith not failing him. After all the deities hardly falter, its humans who err. Somehow nursing his wounds soothe Uma by the presence of his faith and his family.
Family has the power to give the deepest wounds. One tends to cover up for their untoward misdeeds. Thus Kanak reacts in her meeting with Arvind after the revelation that Bhabo sold the shop to Uma..he lies not. This matters not to Kanak, what cuts her up is Bhabo's out of character act of disposing off the shop, in the first place. She cannot associate lying with Bhabo why would she lie to her family? That too about a blessed place, her temple! Having a sincere friend about her in a incredible situation is beneficial for Kanak. Arvind veers her to mull over the fact ,that she needs to return to Pushkar, gather enough information against Uma Shankar to prove he tricked Bhabo into possession her shop. Arvind guides her to operate within the parameters of the law. Kanak takes the ticket to Pushkar ,her love for Bhabo is a prompt enough for her!
Ahh.. Bhabo even in a coma holds her reverence in the family she heads up. Even in her blackout she is seen as a strong maternal figure who not only gives birth ,nurtures but preserves her family values and traditions. The ambulance reverses her back to where she belongs. The frail old failing figure of the Rathi's, without lifting a finger gathers her family from old to young around her. Even her workers press around her hospital wheeled bed, parked outside her life giving shop. All her loved ones call out in the hope to revive her back to the world of consciousness. The lighting of the hearth in the shop ,symbolises the heart and essence of the family unit. Where differences and fallings out dissipate in a puff of smoke. What remains is the heat, energy, a fire called one's own family. Interestingly enough the scene shows, how families latch on to and connect to a specific unit of bricks and mortar. For the place comprises of their good or bad life experiences. Like the shop provides the family with a canopy of security where the souls of the Rathi's come together. Even though Bhabo lies in a deep sleep.
Kanak couldn't been at a better juncture in her life, than the train station itself. It's clear she's at a turning point in life, with only one clear option. She has to return to Pushkar, tell her family the truth, prove Uma Shankar wrong !and reclaim Bhabo's shop back! So a journey she has to embark upon. Yet before she does, the hustle bustle of life prompts her to mull things over in her mind. How she is going to put things across to her family at large? and Bhabo herself? how will she challenge, question Bhabo's decision to sell her shop to Uma Shankar? but before Kanak can dare to go through that...Bhabo herself turns up at the railway station! and questions Kanak's act of deserting the battlefield without collecting the trophy of her war! The reason why she jumped through the hoops until now! Bhabo will mock her, for her cowardice! Running away from kerala without the papers! Bhabo will scoff at her so called love of her! her goal to aspire for Bhabo's love! Kanak .. thinks she will argue with Bhabo all that Arvind had to say! As such she is helpless But she can hear Bhabo's voice turning her argument down! By reminding her that her parents didn't think twice of being helpless! before giving up their lives to save her! for me the dialogue within Kanak's own mind between her and Bhabo is a sad reflection of the hate Kanak perceives Bhabo's harbours against her. Kanak can see within her own mind she will not stand a chance before Bhabo .. in fact she'll be lucky if she gets an audience with Bhabo!
Within her own mind Kanak suddenly finds herself at the crossroads between her captor Uma Shankar and her loved family member Bhabo who she would run to for respite! but somehow Kanak sadly expects her loved one to turn her down! And in her mindsees herself being crucified! Forced to prove her love for Bhabo! She sees Bhabo putting her in a situation which tells her to return to Uma Shankar , live through hell , only to retrieve the papers of the shop! this then for Kanak would be the test of her love for Bhabo! To gain Bhabo's love Kanak will have to go through pain! For without pain there is no gain! Kanak can see the predicament., Bhabo has put her into! She can hear Bhabo's trite tone.. that Suraj and Sandhya had to go through the pain of death ! to gain the life of their daughter Kanak! thus torn between Uma and Bhabo Kanak sits at the station.. to embark another challenging journey of her life..will she reverse her steps back to Uma who something tells her will come for her..or the other option, will she return to the arms of her family? Enough of mulling over. it's time to move on... prove her worth!
Have to say for me this was a fine episode as it gets into the mind of a character. The cvs have explored the soliloquy style, in a visual form, where a character speaks aloud .. A defining moment when Kanak stops and thinks through all the pros and cons of the moment when she will face her family especially her Bhabo .. it's sad when continues to sees herself as a right off black sheep in Bhabo's eyes..Back at the houseboat , Uma's job to seek and retrieve his fled wife is designated to his first in command Gabbasa ! after all he does the low level jobs for the mighty Uma Shankar...Not a moment to waste.. Kanak at the registry office this time in person, investigating the sale of Kanak sweet mart.. her familial bonds clarifies her stance systematically, to whom, when and how the shop was sold. The official shows her the cctv footage to seek answers for herself.. Kanak peers at the screen curiously... Hamlet53 25.5.17
