TSMSPJ*ep: 44* 23.5.17: My Impression * At the crossroads ..
Being at crossroads is a critical moment in life when such decisions may be undertaken which are likely to affect one's life. One maybe at a juncture of their life from where two or more paths may run off the intersection of their life. By the end of this crucial episode. Our protagonists, namely Kanak and Uma will have to make some stiff decisions which will possibly be a turning point in their lives..for Kanak its realizing bhabo sold her shop to Uma Shankar, her husband? her husband on the other hand is facing the fact his wife has just walked out on him! What will be the defining moment now for him?
Good wishes for new beginnings. Uma starts his wedded life with prayers of thanksgiving .Uma invokes Shiva's blessing which in itself bodes well of a blissful wedded life. The room is spruced up,to mark of the auspicious occasion. Suman is nosey as usual.. Palomi continues to wonder how she can debacle and usurp Kanak's status in Uma's life. Uma is shown with his symbolic faith backed confident smile. That he shares a heart to heart relationship as a devotee with his Lord Shiva, becomes evident when he confesses Kanak's somewhat waywardness. Uma crossing the bridge with yet another fixed smile, reminds the viewers how he crossed various bridges to get to Kanak. This then is the final bridge before he makes her his forever.
Away from the heat of the moment Kanak seeks the boat that will take her to the shores of freedom. But Uma turns up and hence she tells the boat man to wait.. it's back to square one! Kanak has to wait in the room, for the right moment! Taking flight is not going to be easy! Uma knocks and enters. A wedding night gift for Kanak from him. In return to fetch Uma a warm glass of milk from Kanak! gives the shy ,coy bride a sound reason to leave the room! It all seems natural. Uma is lulled into a tranquillity, of soon she will be his ! Uma sports no reason to suspect Kanak of any foul play! how misleading..
His refusal to have milk trails behind her! But where he couldn't wait to get to know her. Kanak is in great haste to flee from his house boat ! she makes it in time to catch the boat man and off the boat is rowed away. Fantastic scene the manner in which Kanak flutters down the aisle of the house boat like a caged bird, frantically looking for an outlet from whence she can fly to its freedom. How she keeps verbal contact with the impatient Uma awaiting her return in their shared room! Uma respecting her word, against going after her is nerve- racking to watch!
Pitched against Kanak's escape from the Uma's grand boat, is the scene where Bhabo is whisked to the intensive care unit . The scene is a family coming together , evaluating decisions they took, without fully consulting each other and its repercussions. Seeing that the matriarchal figure of the Rathi family has her immediate family around her, shows how families unite in trauma situations. Meenakshi is the one who suffers most emotionally, on hearing about Bhabo's gone into coma condition.. it's not just the patient who suffers, it's the family too..especially those who see themselves responsible for the critical patient's condition.
Seeing a dear one ill is a sure thing ,that bring out regrets to the forefront, and missing loved ones from the woodworks. Vikram turns up and becomes the right person to blame his wife Meenakshi for his mother's condition! Have to say once again babbasa pulls the family together! sets aside blame syndrome and touches upon family unity. Selling the shop was in good intent as Bhabo's illness was kept in mind! But the key issue they all ignored that the shop means life line to her! Ved catches on to babbsa's family unit song and suggests Bhabo be taken to the shop for recuperation . Another moving bit to the scene is when the brothers mention the effect Bhabo's illness is likely to have upon their sister Kanak when she hears about all that has transpired... Kanak isheading for one more bolt of lightning..
Kanak is long time gone? With the bundle of his first night gifts pressed against his heart.. Uma comes out of his room, looks around , goes knocking at doors seeking for his demure, bashful bride..kanak.. Kanak? this then is the same aisle where Kanak flapped about hysterically for her freedom. Now Uma walks the same aisle. An unknown fear grips him..as finally he returns to his room.. his held out arms turn to jelly and the platter carrying the grooms bridal gifts, vermilion and all! crashes into a heap on the floor. He is knocked back into his senses from his love for the sandal wood fragrance girl... his eyes glare in a realization.. this means that Kanak has gone?
Palomi supplies ,Massi a reason in the shape of a flower, anointed by the priest to be put amongst Kanak's clothes.. this I would imagine is for fertility.. Maasi enters Kanak's room, opens her suitcase, to deposit the flower. But many tell tale signs are found. Soon Suman, Maasi put two and two together..that Kanak actually plans to flee.. Kanak played along the rituals and mislead them..the alarm is raised.. alas! Too late!the captive bird has flown from the cage..
Over to the other side to meet Arvind. Kanak expects good news from her lawyer mate. Only he is the bearer of bad news. Uma Shankar is not the Ravan that Kanak believed him to be. The shop was sold by Bhabo herself to him, her thumbprints too are not counterfeit but genuine! . Kanak receives a jolt.. the jolt corresponds with the one that Uma receives! Kanak has fled?
Quite a happening episode for me.. pity the promos though, killed the suspense for me. No disrespect to anyone. Now to look out for Kanak at the crossroads , Bhabo or Uma? well if it's getting back Bhabo's soul then it ll be going back to Uma Shankar... as for him, he still seems keen on her.. the lamp and the wick.. will they bring light to Bhabo's.. quality of life? Or still be at logger heads? Hamlet53 23.5.17
