Humans too like other living species gravitate towards each other and live as a segment in a stronghold of a social unit. As much as we warm to being part of a community. Within each one of us resides an individual too, that has to abide by certain rules which applies both ways. How others interact towards us and how we respond to others. Ethics, moral conduct prompted by personal faith, culture or family values keep us in line.Some codes of conduct we broadly desire for ourselves from society at large, and in turn give to others, is mutual respect, tolerance, compassion, and a degree of freedom of action or thought. But watered down, there also lie certain issues that come into lime light more so as glaring shortfalls in the areas of present day criminality. What with use of the sophisticated state of the arts technology, identity theft, and invasion of individual privacy is on the increase. Despite being protected by passwords and personalized security codes. Criminals forever want to pry into your life!! How much allowance does one give others or one's self? Today's episode explores the codes of confidentiality. Invasion of personal privacy, preservation of privacy and last but not the least. How much flexibility or margin do we have access to? or we allot others?
Thinking about leeway as applied to Kanak, I cannot help but conclude that she has imposed a closed door policy rampart around her. Her identity ,family background are completely unknown. She affords Uma shankar's family no flexibility what so ever by her, self imposed privacy. Her in laws in particular, despite seeing their persistence turned down have little choice except to suspect her of being secretive and devious. Kanak on the other hand is hell bent on maintaining her privacy so as to protect her real motive and her family from the evil deeds of the nasty Uma. So deeply entrenched is this distrust between Uma and Kanak that any margin or leeway from Kanak's side seems pretty farfetched momentarily. For Kanak his act of getting hold of Bhabo's shop deeds by fraudulent method, forged thumbprints is enough justification to crucify him.
Kanak's recent blunder of showing desperation for her pouch bag is yet another item added to her catalogue of suspicious activities as far as Maasi the in charge elder is concerned. She ensures that Uma is aware of all the leeway she allows Kanak ,but the girl obdurately thwarts her authority plus continues to conceal all that is significant about her from her new family. Once again Maasi tries to manipulate Uma to pry into Kanak's bag in order to dispel all suspicions circulating around Kanak. Uma declines. Maasi, appears to lose control over Uma, before Suman and Palomi.
Kanak was sure that Uma instigated by the strong willed Maasi would have pried into her bag. But she is proven wrong . However the manner in which this scene is handled by Uma right from the onset is to win her respect by implying that he recognizes and respects her privacy. It's like he plays mind games. Kanak stills finds it hard to swallow, this cheat gives her the impression to relax, as he is not one to rob her of the right to individual discretion. Uma is shrewd enough to recognize that Kanak perhaps does not accept his words. It's then that Uma puts weight on his stance of preserving her privacy. He uses the powerful tool of faith which many find difficult to ignore as the inspired words of the gods. He quotes a marital incident out of the exemplary couple, Lord Shiva and queen Parvati's life where she with held information from her husband to promote goodwill between her and her husband's family. The crux of the story was lord Shiva never forced his wife to share anything she felt was private to her. Kanak identifies the example as one that respects individual confidentiality ! and praises Lord Shiva as being the ideal husband! Uma equates himself in the same frame. He wants Kanak to realize her personal space, as he allows her the rightful leeway. Yet along side, with it lies the presumption that the secret Kanak stomachs is based on the trust she will keep it guarded. His trust is hinged on it, and he does remind her that once trust breaks ,it's hard to fix it. With that he returns the pouch purse to her and leaves. Kanak checks her pouch the papers were there in tact!!. Kanak is clean bowled! he has truly granted her a certain flexibility? He baffles her. Whereas in the main he cheated her Bhabo .. here he injured himself, retrieved her pouch ,saved it from Maasi s confiscation and now as far as she can see.. Bhabo's papers remain in her possession .Is Kanak likely to be swayed by this space provided by a somewhat permissive man? Uma appears as a maze to her. But only Kanak decides,when to enter the maze to search for the elusive man..
Being a son's mother grants a fair amount of scope and leeway in terms of marriage prospects in some cultures. Meenaskshi goes for a rich man's daughter. There are stars in her eyes when Golu gets approved by the girl's affluent father, even marriage is set! except a heavy price has to be paid. Golu has to live at the brides parental house! Well good for this Rathi male! he declines the idea! Will Meenakshi have much leeway with her son? She will try to twist his elbow!
Uma will not pry into Kanak belongings! she is his wife not his maid! Well that should shut up wagging mouths! But Maasi is not prepared to allow Kanak the margin that Uma does! She will set her feelers up!! her till she exposes the truth about this girl! As for Uma he is on a roll of giving his wife a good time! A stroll on the beach? Kanak , declines, but gives in later..Shock! as undesirable people too want to accompany the newly married couple.. but Uma puts his foot down! and Kanak and Uma stroll on the beach.. Maasi, itches to invade Kanak's privacy. She predicts some turbulent times on account of secrets buried in Kanak's mind!
Maasi is no novice. She has a gut feeling about this girl! Palomi is sent as her eyes on the beach to invade the privacy!! Kanak on the other hand is the least bit interested in Uma's broad love torn honey glazed smiles.. yes she grants him the leeway of responding coyly. But its phoning Arvind about Bhabo's papers she is preoccupied with! Kanak will have to divert his attention! She goes, by feigning injury!..bids him to go ahead and she will follow ..
I quite liked the episode, husband and wife granting each other mutual privacy.. a show of respect that grants each other space.. Kanak however still despite all the seemingly lee ways he grants him, considers him asthe biggest problem she faces. As it stands within their privacy many such issues are held, which if exposed may set things right between the lamp and the wick.. it seems Palomi, Maasi s eagle eyes squeals on Kanak before Uma... will he still grant her margins of action and thoughts?
