TSMSPJep:13~17.4.17~My Impressions~"for king and country..
The land one inhabits is of great significance to many people, even in present times when globally one may be subject to moving to other lands for varied reasons. One tends to hold great attachment to the land of one's roots. The term "king and country" was coined in England where the royal monarch stood as a figure head of the whole country, both for the land and people. It spells out nationalism and loyalty for one's country. Today's episode reminds me of the term patriotism. Blessed are those who lay down their lives for their country women/men. Life is a precious gift that one can have, and much is done to maintain it as long as one lives. However within the social system of governance and order, there exist people who are specific to the defence of one's territorial borders that maintain one's national independence, security and citizenship. Apart from this, nations boast of ordinary citizens too, who are capable of drinking from the cup of martyrdom. Those who willingly forfeit their lives to save other innocent lives. Goes without saying that such people who lay down their lives in the line of duty, or are infused by a sense of patriotism, or stand up for a cause that upholds justice and freedom are worth mentioning. As such people, are revered as a symbol of awe and inspirations for generations to come. Such two souls were Suraj and Sandhya, one husband and wife. One promoted by the line of duty ,the other prompted by the vow of love and marriage.. till death do them part! But one reason they both embraced death together , which naught will know, is that they accepted their watery death to save the precious lives of their innocent fellow compatriots of Hanuman lane..
Powerful episode today, also about how the grieving of those who lay down their lives for king and country fare, after the honours and anthems of praise die down. What lives behind, is a corroding bitterness that cannot be expressed at the nation, for that would be seen as grossly unpatriotic. So the nearest substitute of the cause is found to vent frustration upon. The episode is about seeing the dark side of Bhabo who recalls the oath she took from her son Suraj and Sandhya to return to her safe and sound after repatriating the inhabitants of Hanuman lane from the grip of terrorists. Bhabo actually reveals to the rest of the family..she had specifically pleaded to Suraj and Sandhya not to put their necks on the line for the sake of Hanuman lane. To me she was one who deterred her brave children from, laying down their lives for the sake of others. The image that she took an oath from her children to recoil their spirits , that too before the very statutes of Lord Rama and Sita. This shows that Bhabo negates all the teachings of the gods who instruct followers to follow the path of righteousness ,by upholding justice , virtue and by fighting off vice! I see today, Bhabo totally disregards the greatest gift her children gave, to save innocent lives, and to avert mass destruction. Long time refutation of their death leaves her sick with loathing for facts she cannot avert to this day. Either Bhabo is unaware of the real reason why Suraj and Sandhya jumped to their watery grave? Or she only knows half the story. There is deep rooted hatred in her heart against Kanak. So entrenched is her abhorrence in the blame game syndrome that she fails to see the sacrifice her children Suraj and Sandhya made.
It seems long enough has Bhabo's innings of hatred against Kanak has gone on. The deities have to intervene and give evidence of their will rather than that of humans. Kanak's visa photo smeared by water spilt accidentally by her washes chances of her getting married right away. Mayank will have to leave and return after six months. No doubt this will be a great set back for Bhabo as she wants to get rid of Kanak as soon as possible. Already Kanak fears Bhabo will conclude that she sabotaged this marriage, such is this girl's paranoia, her brothers, lucky for her take the bite out of the postponement of her marriage. Ved and Vansh remind her of the bright side, which is to say their only sister gets to stay longer with Bhabo.
Interestingly, Bhabo shows great, compassion and protection towards little Pavan when he wants her to prepare a favourite dish for him. Of course she with pleasure will do so as the little boy is despite all the malice Meenakshi spews against him ,a sweetness in Bhabo's life. Alas! her affection for Pavan contrasts with Bhabo's odium of Kanak who has lost both her parents in the same common tragedy that the family suffered. Except Kanak's loss seems to be underestimated and seen to be supplemented by the presence of her wider family. Bhabo imagines, Kanak affectionate cajole, Bhabo why won't you give my hand way?? This revolts the old woman to such a degree that she would rather hold hot dough balls on her palms than give Kanak away. Although the burning hot dough balls singe the tough layer of Bhabo's palm.. she cannot rid herself of Meenakshi's caustic words of Pavan being Vikram's illegitimate son.. and giving Kanak away, she'd rather burn and self harm herself with hate rather than let go and cool herself with the balm of forgiving Kanak. Meenakshi spells out the truth she did so deliberately to get out of giving Kanak away! Kanak wants some answers from her Bhabo today! why this rejection of her ,she too is a child of this family, a Rathi!then why the cruel exclusion of her from her heart ?from her affection? For twenty years she waited for the warm blessing of her hand!she even agreed to this marriage, to honour her wishes!and today she self harmed herself to come out of giving her away! Cries Kanak.. as she gets her parents picture to force out her Bhabo's angst her.. why?? Why?
Bhabo's answer.. hate! Hate! She hates Kanak beyond words, she took her Suraj and Sandhya from her! All this time her old body ran from Kanak.. dreaded seeing her! The killer of her dear children, the killer of her own parents! Kanak is stunned by the venom of her Bhabo's words. We see in Bhabo's tirade the image of a soul warped by completely detestation. How easy it is to hate and how terribly difficult it is to overcome that hatred by choosing to forgive. For in forgiveness one has to set aside personal grief and smarting and bow to show humility. Bhabo thinks losing Suraj and Sandhya is her personal loss and thus she has the right to hate the person responsible for causing her loss , Kanak. Forgiving Kanak will mean giving up her right to hate her. Bhabo finds it hard to give up her right! Pity Bhabo only knows Suraj and Sandhya got killed saving Kanak.. she is unaware they aspired to save not just Kanak but the whole face of Hanuman lane. Will she ever learn the truth they carried in their bodies, the lethal body cavity bomb?? Or will Kanak have to carry out a similar feat someday to prove she is the true daughter of Suraj and Sandhya..a true Rathi to win her Bhabo's love? Will she come across someone who will teach her to find the purpose of true living? To live life to the fullest with a clear direction?Hamlet5318.4.17
