At Seventeen PT 6

Jai carried Bani giggling like a schoolgirl into Walia mansion and almost dropped her as a sea of glum faces met his eyes. Masi, Jigyasa, Adi, Ranveer and Sahil were all sitting on the sofas, looking miserable.
"Arre, kya hua? I know Bani and I are a little in coming but didn't think you guys would be this upset." Jai looked from one face to the other.
Adi stood up and said glumly, "Jai its not you we are upset with, its this ghada here…" pointing to Ranveer, "isne mussibaat mei hum sab ko daal diya."
"Kya hua, would like to tell me what Ranveer did?" Jai asked. Bani in the meantime came and stood next to masi."
"Ask him, " Adi said, glaring at Ranveer, "why are sitting with mouth shut now?"
"Papa…" Ranveer started, but Adi interrupted him, "Don't call me papa…mei abhi jyada naraaz hu tujse."
Jai went and sat next to Ranveer, "care to tell me what happened?"
"Raashi's pregnant."
Taking a deep breath, Jai looked at Bani and then at Jigyasa. He could see Jigyasa burning up with rage but wouldn't dare say anything in front of him. Then he looked at Adi and said, "problem kya hai. Get them both married. He was careless enough to get Raashi pregnant then he can responsibility now for his action."
"Bhayia how can Ranveer get married to such s***. Why is it Ranveer's fault, if the girl has such low morals, than its her problem."
Jai shouted, "Jigyasa!"
"Why is it Raashi's fault? I think it was Ranveer that was chasing the poor girl, in fact your Ranveer likes playing with one more than one girl. Last week it was Rano and at my wedding he had my ghodiwali on his arms."
Jai looked mortified as he realized what he said. He looked at Bani who was trying very hard to keep her face straight and masi, if looks could kill, he would be dead now.
Adi who couldn't hold his laughter, burst out laughing, "teri ghodiwali….oh boy…poor Ranveer, know which side of the family those genes come from."
Masi mad at both of them now, snapped, "Adi watch your tongue. This not funny, a girl is in trouble because of your son."
Masi looked at Jai and said, "Phone Ranvijay and ask him to come here with Raashi."
Ranveer stood up and shouted at masi, "masi, I won't marry Raashi, I don't love her."
Masi just glared at him, "bit too late, may be you should have remembered that when you had s** with her."
Bani blushed red, Jigyasa flinched and Ranveer just gasped at masi's bluntness. No one said anything but sat in silence while Jai asked Ranveer to follow him to the study.
"Sit down Ranveer." Jai ordered.
Ranveer looked gloomy as he sat down. "Ranveer, if you don't like Raashi, why did you sleep with her?"
"Mamaji I never said I don't like Raashi. And well it just happened, you know how it is…" Ranveer trailed off, too embarrassed to verbalize his thoughts.
Jai folded his arms and stared at him grimly, "No Ranveer, I don't know how it is. Care to explain how you can sleep with someone if you don't love her. May be I am old fashioned to believe in waiting till you get married to woman before having s**."
Silence fell as Ranveer looked at the floor, unable to say any words. Jai came and sat down next to him, "Look Ranveer you change what has happened, but you cannot walk away from your responsibility. You cannot ask Raashi to have an abortion nor can you abandon her. I have to call Ranvijay but I want you to seriously think about whether you will marry Raashi or not?"
Half an hour later, a furious Ranvijay was shown into the room, followed by crying Raashi. Jai indicated to Bani to take Raashi away whilst they talked.
Ranvijay's voice boomed, "I never thought Ranveer was capable of this when Raashi asked permission to go out a date with him. Thought he is from such a high standing family, Raashi should be safe. How wrong I was?"
"Why don't you take a seat Ranvijay and let us discuss this sensibly." Jai said in a firm tone.
"What is there to discuss, Ranveer has to marry Raashi, there is no two way about it. Otherwise I will cause trouble for you and your family Jai."
Before Jai could reply, Ranveer spoke up, "Uncle I will marry Raashi. There is no need for you to cause trouble to Jaimama or my dad."
"Ranveer!" Jigyasa could not stop herself, "you don't have to get married. She can go and get an abortion. Nowadays girls get abortion without a bat of an eye."
Adi furious at Jigyasa's callousness, "Jigyasa, how could you say, this is our grandchild you are talking about."
Jigyasa snapped back, "How can a child outside of marriage be my grandchild."
In a cold tone, Adi said, "It is still my grandchild, I don't care if Ranveer and Raashi are married or not. Raashi will marry Ranveer and have that child."
Trying to soften the situation, Jai looked at masi, who spoke up, "Its settled than Ranvijay, I will bring shagun for Raashi and we will fix the wedding as soon as possible."
While masi went to her room, Jai took Ranveer and went looking for Bani and Raashi. He found them in his room, Raashi was still crying as Bani tried to console her. Jai went up to Raashi and said gently, "Raashi you don't have to cry. Ranveer said he is going to marry you. Why don't you have a talk with him and then both of come down."
Jai took Bani's hand and both of them left Raashi and Ranveer alone. After closing the door, Jai pulled Bani into one of the empty guestroom and hugged her and growled, "There goes my honeymoon. I haven't even been married a day and have to face family problems."
Bani kissed him lightly and said softly, "we can always go after the wedding, may be we can go together."
Jai pushed her away and looked as if she was mad, "no one is coming on my honeymoon. There is going to be only you and me, get that thought out of your pretty little head."
Bani giggled at him, "You are way too selfish Mr Walia."
An hour later everyone was digging into the snacks served by masi, Bani and Raashi. The garam, garam pakoras, samosas and aloo puris were in hot demand. Looking at Ranvijay no one would believe an hour ago he was raging lion and now a quiet reserved father of the bride. Mama, bhanja had retired into a corner and were behaving like two love-struck tennagers, casting lusty glances at Bani and Raashi causing them both to blush. In the kitchen Raashi whispers in Bani's ears, "mami, I don't want to go out there, Ranveer is behaving like a badmaash and on top mamaji is encouraging him.'
Bani just laughed and whispered back, "I don't think mamaji is teaching Ranveer anything new, mujhe lagtaa hai Ranveer itna bhola bhala nahi hai, hota toh yeh musibaat hi gari nahi hoti. Shadi se phele zyadaa romantic toh tum dono huwai."
Raashi went beetroot red, "mami aap bhi na…" Just than masi called for the girls to bring some more samosas and Bani picked up a plate and handed it to Raashi, who took it meekly and walked out.
The mini party was just about ending, when Rano walked in and seeing all the food and drinks, looked peeved and pouted at Ranveer, "Oye, you are enjoying the party by yourself and I was sitting waiting for your phone call." Rano didn't notice Raashi sitting next to Ranveer or that he was holding her hand. Jai got up smiled at Rano and taking her hand said quietly, "come we need to talk," and took her to his study.
Two minutes later teary-eyed Rano walked up to Ranveer and slapped him. "You two timing son of b****. What did you say to me? I am not seeing Raashi…we broke up. I hope rot in hell." Ranveer looked guiltily at her, "Rano…" But before he could say anything else, Rano stormed out.
Much later a tired looking Bani stepped into their bedroom to find Jai lounging on the bed. As she took out his pjs from the cupboard he drawled, "I don't think I will be needing that so you can put it right back." Bani ignored him and dropping his pjs right in his hand just smirked, "You can forget any hanky panky tonight Mr Walia…I think all the excitement in your house today has worn me out. I am not sure how I am going to get through the wedding. Masi has already fixed at dates, coming up with tons of to do lists and planning the menus."
Jai got up from the bed and walked up to her, "I don't care what masi is doing…I know what I am going to be doing…" Next second Bani was lifted up and tossed on the bed. The clothes got tossed aside and the lights went out…
And so began another round of wedding arrangement, shopping, sending invitations and more shopping with Bani getting sucked into every trip to see the wedding planner, jewelers, sari shops etc. Jai was unhappy as he hardly got to see Bani. She was up early and coming to bed exhausted. During the day, she spurned every effort Jai made so they could be alone together, each time it would be masi needs this or Adi wants this doing or Ranveer wants to take Raashi shopping and want her to come along. But at night the story was different, Jai got his way inside their closed bedroom.
