If someone owes you money for something is it wrong for you to ask them to pay you back?

Just recently i asked a family member for a approx $120 bucks that they owed me for something that i had bought for them. The money had been outstanding for around 2 months and no mention had been ever been made by either them or me regarding paying me back.

Then this weekend i got a little impatient with them and asked them for the money that they owed me. My husband got a little upset at me saying that it doesn't look nice for me to go asking them for the money.

I'd like your guys views on this. Was i in the wrong asking them to repay me? The family member knew that i was to be repaid but never even mentioned it once.

When you offer to pay for something for a family member or a friend , there is a good chance you won't get paid back.. So if you can live with that fact then only volunteer to pay otherwise don't... Or else let them pay for something next time and call it a wash..

Having said that , treat this as a lesson and forget the whole thing about asking for money... You will feel bad about it but you won't miss it and it sure is not worth ruining a friendship or relationship over money...The will always remember that you paid for it...!!!!!!!!!

no no, you don't get it. i never offered to pay for it. we own a pharmacy and this family member needed a blood pressure machine to give to her brother who in turn was going to send to india. she asked my husband to bring it from our pharmacy and to drop it off that day at her house.

so this was basically a business transaction right? it should've been up to her to pay us back.

As explained by you above, I think your case is different. You were justified in asking for the money they owned you...after all, ghoda ghaans sey yaari kareyga toh khayega kya...hain na 😊

On a personal note, and please note that I am not a business owner, if I lend anyone money or buy something for a relative back home who requested some thing, I never ask for money. I expect that I won't be paid so when they do pay it back, it is a pleasant surprise. But that is on a personal note. When you have a business to run, I understand that you have to draw a line somewhere. After all, your rishteydaar bought the machine from you for their rishteydaar. I think you were justified in asking your money back...and I am sure you did it politely. So, don't feel bad 😊

If the person who asked you to get it from your husband's pharmacy so they can send it to India than I would ask your husband to render them a bill for $120. baat khatam, case closed.

Now if it was someone from India who asked u to send blood pressure machine from your husband's pharmacy than it gets tricky. You might as well not even think abt the money unless they were very clear from get go that they will pay you money and to keep the hisaab.

It is good to discuss money upfront than wondering afterwards. Just my 2 cents on this.

There was a story part of curriculum addressing this problem in school time. Where the author wants his one dollar. Summary was ask for it, simple :). No Not even one penny you owe to friends is unaccountaed for, go for it.

On receiving end, will never mind, its after all money one owes and I don't want even one sec / with one penny with any favors, when with God's Grace i can repay 😃

if he is a true blood pessimist, he will know beforehand that 99% he won't get it back...so might not lend it to begin with😛
