Four gangsters, planning to kill Himesh, Santoshi, held in UP


LUCKNOW, JULY 25 (PTI)
Four alleged sharpshooters of Ezaz Lakadwala gang, who were in Uttar Pradesh to arrange weapons to "eliminate" singer Himesh Reshammiya and director-producer Raj Kumar Santoshi, were today arrested by the Special Task Force of police from Barabanki, a senior official said.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF nabbed Anis Radiowala, Namdev, Rahim Khan and Ishrat Warsi when they reached a school on Dewa road in Barabanki district to collect weapons, Director General of Police Vikram Singh told reporters here.

During interrogation by the STF, Radiowala claimed that Lakadwala, who had reportedly taken a "contract" to kill the two Bollywood personalities, also tried to get one of his men selected in TV music talent show "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" to shoot Reshammiya but he was disqualified in the initial rounds.

Radiowala, however, did not reveal the name of the contestant, Singh said adding, interrogation of the arrested men was going on and details of who gave the "contract" and the reason for targeting the two were yet to be known.

Singh said Radiowala was a close confidant of Lakadwala, who had worked for Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan and Abu Salem and was now running a separate gang from Australia and New Zealand.

Two revolvers and two pistols were recovered from their possession, Singh said adding, Radiowala had confessed that he used to work for Lakadwala and collect money on his behalf.

Singh said the four were also planning to kidnap a gutkha businessman from the state capital but did not elaborate.

Radiowala was working on the rolls of Lakadwala, who used to pay him Rs 25-30,000 per month and extra amount for every work executed from him, the DGP said.

Four sharpshooters of the Ejaz Lakdawala gang were today arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, who claimed that they were on a mission to "eliminate" singer Himesh Reshammiya and producer-director Raj Kumar Santoshi.

Acting on a tip-off, STF personnel nabbed Anis Radiowala, Namdev, Rahim and Iqbal from Dewa area of Barabanki district, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shahab Rashid Khan told PTI.

He said the sharpshooters revealed that they were in Uttar Pradesh to collect weapons to "eliminate" Reshammiya and Santoshi.

Lakdawala had reportedly taken a "contract" to kill the two Bollywood personalities, Khan said.

It's literally raining Himesh Reshammiya these days. The singer-actor is hogging the limelight everywhere. At times, it's his bald story or the sequel to Aap Ka Suroor , or his war and subsequent patch-up with Salman Khan that's in the news.

And now, guess what his latest take is? After claiming that he is a nasal singer he is going around saying that it's not him but Sonu Nigam who is the numero uno singer in Bollywood.

Raj Santoshi, Himesh death plot is foiled

Lucknow, July 25: An Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on Wednesday arrested four criminals who had come from Mumbai to purchase weapons that were to be used to kill noted singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya and filmmaker Raj Kumar Santoshi. An earlier plot to kill Reshammiya in front of the cameras during the course of a TV show failed because the hired assassin was eliminated from the show in the early rounds.

The STF acted on a tip-off provided to them by the Mumbai police. The criminals, who belong to the Ejaz Lakadwala gang, also planned to kidnap a "gutka" tycoon in Lucknow.

The four were arrested from near a school (near the Dewa Sharief shrine) in Barabanki district, about 22 km from Lucknow. The STF team also recovered one pistol, two revolvers made in Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province, one country-made pistol, cartridges, one mobile phone and a Qualis vehicle.

Talking to reporters, UP director-general of police Vikram Singh said the module, which worked on the instructions of Ejaz Lakadwala (now based in Australia and New Zealand) was given the task of purchasing the weapons which would then be handed over to another module of sharpshooters in Mumbai.

"The sharpshooters would carry out the task of shooting Reshammiya and Santoshi," he said. According to the arrested criminals, it was to intimidate them and force them to pay money to the mafia. "The accused have told us that they had initially planned to send one of their men as a contestant on the Zee TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, in which Himesh Reshammiya is one of the judges. They wanted this contestant to shoot Reshammiya during the show in order to get maximum publicity. However, their man was eliminated in the initial rounds of the musical show and their plan was foiled," he said. The police are now on the lookout for the sharpshooter who participated in the show's auditions.

Anees Radiowala, the leader of the four-member Lakadwala team, confessed he had been sent to purchase arms that would be used in the attack on the two celebrities. When presented before the media, Anees confessed he was paid Rs 50,000 to collect the weapons from UP and Lakadwala paid him a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.

"Bhai always took care of me and sent me to safe places. This is the first time that I have been caught," he told reporters.

The names of the other three accused are Namdeo, Mohammed Rahim Khan and Ishrat Warsi. All of them belong to Mumbai. The DGP added that the Mumbai police had been informed of the arrests and further investigations would be carried out by them.

LUCKNOW: It's established now: Not everybody is a fan of singer-performer and now an actor Himesh Reshammiya.

The Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested four sharp-shooters, who allegedly work for the Ejaz Lakdawala gang, on suspicion that they were on the take to bump off the pop artist.

The STF nabbed Anees Radiowala, Namdeo alias Sagar, Mohammed Raheem Khan and Ishrat Warsi on the outskirts of Lucknow, from where they were allegedly going to collect sophisticated weapons to pull the trigger on Reshammiya and film-maker Raj Kumar Santoshi.

"Anees told investigators that after Reshammiya didn't respond to Ejaz's message to contact him, the latter planted a youth in the audition for an international singing competition, aired on an entertainment channel, where Reshammiya was a judge," additional DG STF Shailja Kant Misra said.

The plan, says Misra, was an audacious one: Shoot Reshammiya at the studio during the recording. But, Ejaz's man wasn't shortlisted for the show and the scheme fell through, he added.
