Why can't we replicate K-Drama format for OTT romance?

Hey there,

I was wondering why can't BW or Indian TV producers replicate Korean shows format of fixed 16-20 episodes of 1 hour each to show rom-coms on OTT platform instead of making sub-standard copied thriller shows of West.

ITV in the past has produced so many romantic tv shows which were a rage not just in India but other countries like Pak, Bangladesh, Turkey as well.

Example - Shows like IPKKND, Geet, DMG, MJHT, Kahin to hoga, PKYEK, Madhubala, etc had no storyline. They were all running on hot chemistry of lead pairs. All these shows ran for min. 2 years, but their storylines could be easily contained in 16 or 20 episodes of 1-1.5 hours. Imagine the quality and rage for these shows if that was the case. These shows could have reached more countries also and expanded worldwide like Korean shows.

2 hour romantic movies feel rushed and incomplete. Instead why can't they expand their OTT market by making romcoms, intense romance shows which capitalise on chemistry of leads with all that dupatta flying, hyperventilating female leads, push pull against wall, arrogant dark past wala CEO male lead, chirpy OTT gareeb heroine. Isn't this what K shows are also all about?

Infact some editor can take up the work of picking up all old Star One shows and making 20 episode series out of those. I am sure, even they would turn out to be better than what ITV and OTT is serving in the name of shows these days.

I prefer this over kdrama.

You got the point and even the TV show makers must have understood it by now but its upto them to make show as they wish. Of course the shows will get alot more recognition and fanbase, if they go the Korean way.

Like Pakistani or Korean shows Indian tv shows should be limited, Indian tv shows can run endlessly and most show nonsense, the same recycle and repeat.

Lol @komolika

I am not saying they should completely stop saas bahu daily soaps. They can keep them running for aunties. But at least on OTT, they can release these kind of shows instead of making boring and copied Thrillers or action shows. Honestly, indian OTT shows are so sub standard as compared to HW counterparts. The only thing we are good at is showing clichee Mills and Boon type of love stories. They should milk that.

They can keep both tbh.

Daily soaps for tv and these youth based limited shows for OTT. The romantic ones we are currently having on OTT are either copied, or just soft p0rn.

But there are already such romantic shows. Gashmeer Mahajani's Tu Zakhm Hai for instance tells the story of a mafia prince and his captive. The heroine is his accountant's daughter whom he's keeping as a guarantee. The first episode is free on Youtube. I believe they are called TV plus.
