Apples & pineapples. Those 2 movies showed what happened to Hindus in 2 ends of the country at different times in history. And there was enough intimidation of theaters that dared carry those movies or moviegoers who went to see them. Even w/ your strawman argument, that fails
The hypothetical that I drew would be an identical parallel to what was done here. In this movie, they pretty much blasphemed Shri Rama, Hanuman-ji and those around them, who you may not care much for but who are sacred to all Vaishnavs, if not other Hindus. Clearly, the makers of this movie didn't fear physical intimidation, and nor should there be. But if this had been done in the example I cited, you'd have had riots & random murders all over the country even greater than what happened after Nupur Sharma's TV appearance. So please don't engage in sophistry & try to pretend that one of these situations is like the other
The straw man argument is defined as an imaginary situation (what if this was made on xxx religion) that is raised to deflect the argument (makers don’t deserve vitriol and hate of this magnitude) …
A classic example of a straw man argument is the hypothetical u originally raised in response to my post….fyi.
If the makers didn’t fear intimidation, that’s normal…and a good thing …not something to “fix”…that’s what happens in a normal society …
they just showed a shoddy, badly made, and an overall badly written adaptation of the ramayan…there were some silly dialogues that didn’t feel dignified for the characters …but from what I can see, Shri ram, hanuman ji, sita , vanar sena , vibhishan we’re all shown as righteous people who theoretically everyone should root for as they are the heros…the entire film echos jay shree ram throughout and characters repeatedly praise ram and hanuman…there is not a single moment where u feel they were in the wrong…so I don’t really see any blasphemy there ….raavan and lanka depiction was inaccurate and not nuanced (raavan has many layers other than just being evil) …none of these are “offensive”…they were “badly done” so the reactions are not justified …
And even if I was offended, there is no way in hell I would pass hate , threats and vitriol and justify that in the garb of “I was offended”…no one appointed us the gatekeepers of our faith …we practice is for our own peace of mind , sanctity and spiritual awakening …not to gain control or higher moral ground in society ….
