at least she lived in the US for years. There are desis who will pick up a twang even after a 10 day trip to Sri Lanka. Talk about fast learners😉😆

When you live your entire life in a certain country or region, you have the luxury of never altering what you sound like.

For those who do immigrate or travel frequently, code-switching becomes a thing. Sometimes it is a conscious effort to fit in. This may fall under the umbrella of wannabe, but isn't it human to desire to fit in wherever we go? Sometimes it happens subconsciously without people realizing it. Because of that human need to fit in our brain subconsciously mirrors the mannerisms including the accent and diction of the majority of people around us.

I don't think it is that unreasonable for someone who spent their teens in the US and has lived in the US for 5+ years to have an accent even if it is jarring to others. I also don't think it is unreasonable for someone to revert back to their other accent depending on the company.

I sound more Midwestern in most settings and distinctly desi amidst Indians. I know black people who switch between flawless English and AAVE depending on where they are.

It's also weird how certain accents are "wannabe" and others are chopped liver. Growing up with family in Bombay and Goa, I switched my accent frequently. In Goa, I spoke Konkani in the Goan dialect and my English was more maka pav and no one batted an eye. I am learning Spanish and try to emulate a Spanish accent when I speak Spanish leading to Spanish-speaking people complimenting how well I speak the limited words I know. And its not just Indians, even here in the Midwest if Midwesterners spoke in a Cali accent they would be dubbed wannabes.

I am confused. Why are actors bashed for having accents here? Having accent is normal. What’s bad about it that actors are bashed for it?

regardless.. she tries too hard..way too hard sometimes and that is highly off putting

I agree that she doesn’t look Middle Eastern at all. But unfortunately Hollywood casting agents don’t always care about this, specially in TV shows. I’ve seen plenty of Indians, Indians, Middle Easterners interchanged for different roles on my TV.

She will not be cast as an African American. There are plenty of AA actresses auditioning in Hollywood and for any production to hire a non-AA as an AA is just asking for controversy IMO.

Things PC can be cast as easily:

Doctor

Lawyer

Policewoman

Truck driver

Congresswoman

Mob boss

Activist

Model

Actress

Mom

Journalist

Immigrant

Witch (good and bad)

Athlete

Soldier

So on and on.

In this day and age, these roles should not be limited to white actors unless they're specifically written as white.

Problem is box office pull. PC doesn't have the same box office pull as Jolie or Scar Jo or any of the ladies from her gen. If her show brought in the TRPs, studios would not have hesitated in hiring her. They would've taken advantage financially because they have a history of taking advantage of POCs. But they wouldn't have hesitated hiring her.

America khud ko Melting Pot bolta hai fir koi character koi bhi ethnicity ka ho unless ki wo koi historical ya religious figure ho kya fark padta hai

Harry Potter ka koi bhi character brown ho sakta tha kyonki cultures mix ho raha hai rapidly
