ABHIRA OS: CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE

.

.

.

Neil could not believe his eyes as he watchedthe video one of his friends had sent him. The boy was present when Abhimanyubeat up the biker and got arrested by the Police and he was as concerned aboutthe surgeon as Neil was. He had left a text along with the clip: What’sgoing on Bro? Abhi Bhai has never acted like this before.

Neil himself didn’t know how to deal with this.He himself had never seen his brother acting so violently and irrationally. Butat least he knew the reason behind it – the same reason which had made hisbrother the happiness just few days ago was now the reason for his agony andsuffering.

Neil knew that Abhimanyu had not given up onhis love for Akshara though he kept pretending to be over her, but hiscondition was clear indication of his heartbreak. And Neil also knew that therewas something askew with Akshara. Neil had known her for only a couple of daysbut he knew instantly that the way she spoke last day was completely out of hercharacter. Even she wanted to let him down, she would have done it slowly, carefully. That’s who the Akshara in his mind was, and he refused to believethat she could ever be as cold as she was last day.

So he knew that something needed to be.

First, he informed Parth and specificallymentioned that ‘Ma ko pata nahi chalna chaahiye’.

The two decided that come what may, they willhide this incident from the rest of the family however they could. While Parthwent to get his wallet and phone, Neil decided to make a call to Akshara.

“Hello?”

“Akshara, mujhe tumse milna hai.”

“Neil, par mein toh meri bus keliye wait karrahi hoon.” He was surprised to hear that – was she leaving the city? And ifthat happens, what will happen to his brother?

“Tu sheher chodkar jaa rahi hai?” He asked.

He could hear Akshara let out a sigh before shesaid, “Haan, and hopefully, forever ke liye.”

This was a problem. Here he was trying to bringthem together and these two were drifting further apart. He had to do somethingabout it. He had to make them talk it out.

“Akshu, tum police station aa jao.” He said.

“Kyun?” Akshara was clearly confused.

“Mein ek clip bejthi hoon.”

.

.

.

“Abhi, tujhe ho kya gaya?” Parth scoldedAbhimanyu as soon as they exited the door of the police station. Now the three brotherswere on the corridor, Neil and Parth trying to talk some sense into the man wholooked as broken as he did when Akshara left after rejecting him.

“Kuch nahi hua hai.” Abhimanyu looked at hisbrother, his eyes dead. “Mein bilkul theek hoon.”

“Dikh raha hai.” Parth let out a deep breath ofexasperation. Looking over, he found the reason for his brother’s agony and thesolution to it, walking in through the gate.

“Akshara!” He called out to her.

Abhimanyu’s eyes widened as he spun on hisheels, facing the love of his life.

Akshu… yeh yaha kya kar rahi hai?

He made no movement or remark as she walked over to him, standingright in front of him. He saw worry and affection in her eyes and it did nomore than cause him more pain. Akshara’s heart hurt to see the man she loved inthe state he was in. She remembered the old Abhimanyu – headstrong but still rationaland calm with the subtle mischief in his eyes. But the man standing in front ofher was not him. This man looked dead, his eyes bore no emotion.

And she knew that she had done this to him – she had broke hisheart along with her own when she chose her sister over him. But what else wasshe supposed to do?

She didn’t know what she was supposed to do so she did the firstthing that came to her mind. And though the guilt will eat at her for the restfor life, or until time heals it all, she didn’t think she had the courage togive in and tell the truth.

Abhimanyu was the first to snap out of the daze.“Aap yaha kya kar rahi hai?”

Akshara blinked as she too came back to her senses and suddenlyshe was also reminded of why she had come here in the first place, ditching herbus to Pune.

She took a deep breath to calm herself and looked at him straightin the eye, a small angry pout on her face. Abhimanyu immediately felt hisheart rate rising and his stomach doing a black flip. He could come to termswith the effect this girl had on him. She broke his heart into splinters butyet managed to possess each and every one of the tiny fragments.

“Yahi toh mujhe aapse bhi poochnahai!” She said.

Abhimanyu had to try his best tonot be swayed by his presence. He had to keep chanting in his head to not beplayed by her yet again. “Jaanke aapko kya kaam hai? Kya lagti hai mein aapki?”

Akshara had already had a long day and she did not need this rightnow. “Listen Abhimanyu, don't make this difficult.”

“I AM MAKING THISDIFFICULT?” His outburst made his brothers flinch but Akshara stood her ground. It was so sad that she was used to being yelled at by her sister that it didn’taffect her when someone talked to her in a loud voice.

It was clear that his outbursthad caught many others’ attention when a police officer approached them. “Excuse me? Yeh ek police station hai!”

Neil and Parth mentally face-palmed. They werestaying out of the couple’s verbal spite but the poor cop was about to becaught in crossfire.

Neil turned to Parth and said, “Mein tohchaahta tha ki yeh log baath karke sab kuch sort out kare par yaha toh kuch hiho raha hai.” His eyes were fixated on the vein popping up on his brother’s temple. He hoped it didn’t burst due to his anger.

“Yeh toh phir bhi theek hai. Ghar main tohzombie banke ghoomta hai.” Parth commented.

“Accha? Humein toh laga thakoi five star resort hai.” Abhimanyu rolled his eyes, before turning back tothe love of his life.

Akshara was not very happy with his interactionwith the cop. She turned to the older man and said, “I am so sorry, Sir.” And thenturned to Abhimanyu with narrowed eyes. “What is wrong with you, Abhi? Tameezse baath kar.”

Abhimanyu gritted his teeth as hepointed his finger at her. “It's Dr. Abhimanyu Birla to you, Miss AksharaGoenka.”

Parth turned to Neil and whispered. “KabhiKairav bolti hai ki Akshara ko Akshu math bulao, ab Abhi bol raha hai ki uskoAbhi math bulaao. Inn dhonom ki chakkar kya hai bhai?”

Neil smiled at the couple. “Takkar ka pyaar haibhai. Inke ladaayi main bhi pyaar jalak tha hai.”

Akshara rolled her eyes and said, “Tohaapko yaad hai ki aap ek doctor hai. Phir aise harqat kyun kiya?”

The police officer decided to speakup, sensing that they were going to start arguing yet again. “Dekhiye-” But hewas cut off immediately by the very handsome and extremely strong man in frontof him.

“Mein kuch bhi kare usseaapko koi farak nahi padna chaahiye, Miss Goenka. After all, as you said, aapkomere liye koi feelings nahi hai.”

“He is still trying to get her to say that shegot feelings for him.” Parth noted.

Neil smirked, “Aur mujhse keh raha tha ki Bhaine Akshara ko bhool chuki hai.”

Akshara took a deep breath. She could feel herbreathing become irregular and she wanted this confrontation to be over with beforesomething happened. “Par friend waala toh hai na?” She tried.

Abhimanyu couldn’t help but humourlesslylaugh out loud. “Seriously? Toh hum ab friends hai? Ek kaam kar Akshara, aapmujhe na text kar de ki aap har dhin mujhse kaisa vyavahaar expect karthe hai! Ekdhin acche se baath karthe hai, dhoosre din mujhe koi doormat ke tharah treatkarthe hai...”

His words faded out as soon as he saw that her breathingwas becoming erratic. It didn’t matter to him that he was hurt, heartbroken orin pain. He could not see his Akshu in pain. The last time she had had a panicattack, he had felt as if his soul had left his body. He loved her so so muchand he was not going to hurt her because they were fighting.

“Arrey yeh sab tum log ghar pe jaake karo na!”The police officer was ignored once more. He sighed and walked away, cursingthe younger generation who had no respect for elders nor rules.

Akshara knew it was time to leavewhen she felt the huge lump on her throat, making it impossible for her to breathe.“Mein bata hi deti hoon. Mein chaahthi hoon ki aap mujhse koi contact na rakhe.”Her heart hurt when she said it but she believed she had to say it.

Abhi felt as if his chest had received a blow.No one had ever or could hurt him like her. And he still loved her no less.

But he took a step forward.

Neil and Parth was alert at once. Theyknew that Abhimanyu would not hurt her even in his dreams but they were scaredhe would hurt himself in this situation.

Parth gave Neil a glare. After all, all of thiswas his plan and it was failing like no other.

“I was doing just that, wasn't I?Aap hi hai jo yaha aayi.” He said, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion.

Akshara gave him the same intenselook, though all she wanted to do was hug him and apologize and tell him howmuch she loved him, but the words that came out of her mouth was completelydifferent. “Shaayad aana hi nahi chaahiye tha.”

“Lo, curtain down, planfailed.” Neil muttered to himself.

Parth sighed, raising a brow at thetwo people lost in each others’ eyes.  “Koikaam ki baath kiya hi nahi.”

Neil looked over at Parth, a smirkon his face.

Parth, furiously shook his headwhile Neil nodded smiling.

“Nahi! Tu hum dhonom ko marwaayega.” He whispered.

Neil just shrugged,  “Pyaar aur jung main sab kuch jaayaz hai, merebhai.”

Neil quickly walked over and stoodbeside Abhimanyu. “Akshu, tu yeh theek nahikiya!”

Abhimanyu was not very happy with Neiladdressing her as Akshu while he had to settle for Akshara because of thesituation their relation was in.

“Kya kiya meine? Tune tohmujhe call kiya tha!”

Abhi’s eyes widened and he turned to glare atNeil while he bit his tongue, not having thought that this small information wouldbe known to his brother. Parth was smart enough to take a step back so as tonot be on the receiving end of his brother’s anger.

Neil swallowed and then started, “Haan, par meine isliye call kiya tha kyunki tum hi ho jo bhai ko sambaal saku. Par tutoh-”

Abhimanyu bellowed. “Mein koibaccha nahi hoon ki yeh mujhe sambaale.”

Akshara had also lost it at this point and shecouldn’t stop herself from lashing out.

“Aur mein koi Mother Indianahi hoon ki sab mujhse yeh expect kare ki mein sab kuch sambaale, mein sabtheek kare, mein saare galthiyom ka responsibility le, mein sacrifice kare, mein apne feelings ko dhabaake rake, mein apne sar jukaye, mein...”

She could not complete her sentence because nowshe had started to wheeze, not able to take in any air. Tears dripped down hercheeks as she tried to concentrate on her breathing but it  was becoming more and more difficult.

Abhimanyu's eyes widened. He wasjust as taken aback by her outburst as anyone in the vicinity, but he quicklyhugged, feeling her feeble attempts to push him away but he was not going tolet her go, because one, his hope had been reignited. Of course she was lying. Her words could lie but her eyes could not, and they were always brimming withlove and affection for him every time they locked eyes. And two, even if shewas telling the truth and he was misreading everything, it didn't change thefact that the beautiful soul in his arms was the love of his life.

He rubbed circles on her back and then startedhumming, knowing that the cure for both their hearts was music. Especially forhim, whose heart only responded to his Akshu’s voice.

All the while, Manish, Akhilesh, Kairav andVansh stood stumped at the doorway, having come over after one of theiracquaintances who had spotted Akshara at the Police station called them.

The four men like failures. How could they notsee Akshara’a pain?

But Kairav was proud of his baby sister becauseshe had finally spoke up for herself.

Much required outburst from Akshara’s side. Leave aside the men of her family even the man of her life failed to connect with her and understand her.
