How popular was Rani in her prime?

Rani is the only actress in Bollywood I can call myself a fan of. However, how popular was she in her prime? unfortunately I didn't have access to internet (in fact social media wasn't even a thing when she was on her peak). Her popularity didn't last long (completely disappeared after 2007 from media). But when she was going strong, she was everyone's favorite and getting awards after awards. Overall how popular was she in her prime?

I don’t know that but I know that if I see Rani’s name in the credits, I want to at least check that movie out.

She was the top actress of 2004 and 2005. And second top actress of 2003. Basically the mid-2000s was ruled by Rani and Preity and they would alternate in the top spot but it was always the two of them.

If Rani disappeared, part of the reason is because she is known as a recluse when it comes to sharing her personal life which is why she still doesn't have social media. So in an age when social media was becoming the new way to engage with stars and the new barometer of gauging popularity, Rani automatically fell out. There is also the inherent sexism of the industry that an actress only has a few years before she falls out of her prime and I think this affected Rani and her contemporaries like Preity as well, especially as their major co-stars, like SRK and Salman, started turning to younger co-stars (which is ironic since Rani and Preity were already much younger than them).

Easily the best actor and most popular one in her generation. Won almost every sabse favorite heroine poll back then. She was known as Khandala girl after Ghulam and soon after successes like Bunty Aur Babli, Saathiya, Yuva, Chalte Chalte, Black, she came to be known as Rani Hindustani. Even if her films did not do well her songs still became popular like songs from Badal, Bichoo, Har Dil jo pyar karega, Kahi pyar na ho jaye etc.

Only Ash overshadowed her when it came to global popularity. And Preity overtook her for a while in 2003 when Kal Ho Na Ho and Koi Mil Gaya succeeded.

But by 2004-2006 there was no looking back for Rani and she would be named as top actress in all polls, power lists, 'girl men want to marry' etc.

She got lot of ads too. She was most named as fav actress in Jai Jawaan show and most requested actress to meet jawans on that show. She was invited to Jai Jawan purely on public demand.

Her bad choices post 2007 ruined it for her. Otherwise she was getting good offers from international filmmakers too. The Namesake was offered to her. She also rejected Lagaan.

Sticking to YRF or Dharma films undid her career. Or else she had some of best films of that time offered to her and was called the best actress too.

Aamir Khan, in an interview to Outlook, had said if an actress came closest to holding sway over masses the way Madhuri Dixit once had, it was Rani. Rani was totally at top in 2005.

And the only actress apart from Ash to make it to top 5 in Filmfare power list back then. That list hardly had female names then. Ash and Rani were first to make it to that list.

And I am happy she’s continuing to do quality work and bless us with great performances. I wait for every project of hers because I know it’ll be worth watching if only for her.

Nah she never tied with Preity. Preity won the Sabsey Fav on 2003, while Rani won it for 4 years in a row from 2004 - 2007.In 2007, she tied with Katrina.

Agree with everything you said. It's strange how her popularity faded so drastically after 2007 considering how popular she was with the audience even a few years back.
